best care of colin issues! 3/27/2007

I appreciate Doctor Barnes for his care and bedside manners. He willingly explain before the procedure and afterwards in his office. He helped me with a need for care that I have never experienced before. The medication was well accepted by my body, which sometimes can be an issue with me. I enjoy my office visits with him greatly! Pros: the answer to the problem more

ScreeningColon cancer is the second largest cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. The biggest breakthrough in the treatment of colon cancer is the increased emphasis on preventative screening. It is recommended by the American Cancer Society that everyone have a colonoscopy at age 50, because colon cancer usually presents no symptoms until its more advanced stages. If a relative has been diagnosed with colon cancer, screenings may be needed even sooner. Diagnosed in its earliest stages, colon cancer can be effectively treated and cured.DiagnosisThere are many sophisticated diagnostic procedures available to our patients:*Colonoscopy ? Examines the lining of the colon*Flexible Sigmoidoscopy ? Examines the inside of the large intestine from the rectum through the last part of the colon*EGD (Esophagogastroduodenoscopy) ? Examines the upper intestinal tract*Esophageal Manometry ? Records and evaluates the muscular function of the esoph agus*Esophageal pH Probe ? Records and evaluates the muscular function of the esophagus*Capsule Endoscopy ? Takes photos of the entire digestive tract via a pill-sized camera (most effective in visualizing the small bowel)*ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) ? Evaluates the anatomy of the bile and/or pancreatic duct*Liver Biopsy ? Used to take a small sample of liver tissue, which can then be examined for abnormalities of the liver
