understaffed, slow, decent food 9/25/2007

i have to say 3 years ago this place used to be good, but now the food and the service has gone downhill. i went in last night 9/24/07 and ended up staying there for close to an hour because it took the server 10 minutes to come to our table and ask us what we wanted for drinks and it took hi 20 minutes to get our check. he was the only server that i saw on the floor. There were only around 6 tables, and 3 tables were paying, and 1 eating. i do not understand how it takes 20 minutes to bring out a check, let alone 10 before we can even order our drinks. good restaurants know to greet their customers and get drinks started within 5 minutes of beng seated. the food was nothing special. The spaghetti was good but the lasagna was hard and costed $15 for the dish which is not worth it in my opinion. Im not sure if i will come back to this place considering the fact that the management should know how to schedule more than 1 server. Stop being cheap and provide the service that the customers deserve!!! Pros: good coke? Cons: prices, service, food, management more

Sweet and Simple 7/31/2007

This is the sweetest place in town. It looks like a real place in Italy when you walk in. The food in excellent and the staff is very nice. I always love going here because it is nevver super crowded, it is dark with candles and you feel like your all alone with your special someone. It is also a great family place since it is so big inside and spread out you can bring the kids. I have had many things on the menu and every single thing I have had has been yummy. The fried calamari appetizer is huge and melts in your mouth. GO GO GO if your hungry and want to beat the regualar suckers at the mall or on blossom hill waiting an hour to get into chilis. And oh yeah the prices are reasonable. Pros: food, lighting, size and wine Cons: your too full when you leave OUCH! more

Great Service! Friendly Servers! Laughs! 3/6/2007

This place has been here forever, according to our neighbors. We have just moved here from the east and were unsure about 'California Italian'. This restaurant is different from all the trendy Cal-Ital (as we call them) places around town. It is the real Italian food we were raised on. The ambiance is old-world Italian restaurant - just like home! Really busy on weekends, We also ate here mid-week and got a table no problem. The menu is huge, making it a little hard to decide what to eat. I had Chicken Parmigiana once and the special Chicken Ceasar (not a salad, some sort of sauce w/brandy) and it was FABULOUS! My husband had lasagna the first time, and then a chicken dish with artichokes and prawns. He loved them both. The prices are right where they should be. You could order a $12.00 pasta or a $20 Cioppino. It's pretty casual inside. There were people in jeans, and others were dressed up. Pros: Friendly, Easy parking, Tons of choices Cons: Suggest calling ahead for table more

Good decent Italian food 11/23/2006

Tried it for a Sunday lunch. Place was not crowded. Service was prompt. Pastas were good. Alfredo Fettucine was not too creamy. Dessert was good. Good value for money. Service was prompt. more

Great Party Place 11/7/2006

My bowling league had a wounderful party at DiCiccos! When we arrived everything was set up and ready for us. They were kind enough to make up a special menu for us with our league name across the top. Everyone was very impressed. The meatball sandwich is always a the best. And the bread, to die for. I highly reccomend if you are planning a function to look to DiCiccos for all of your party needs. more

TERRIBLE SERVICE for mediocre food 10/28/2006

Highly NOT recommended. Our experience was so bad with their manager that I signed up for citysearch just to write this review. We had a large party of 12 for a birthday dinner. We get the bill and there's a cutting fee for cake of $4 per person which we weren't notified of (so $48 plus tax total). When we try to reason with the manager, she proceeds to disrespect our party saying ""When you go to a real restaurant you have a cutting fee, This isn't Chilis or Chevys, I have to pay people to wash the dishes..."" All in all, average food plus terrible service = GARBAGE. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE unless you're rich and don't mind all the extra fees piled over you (They charge an extra $5 for sharing, and they charge you for occupying a seat and not buying something). Pros: the accordian player was great, great bread too Cons: manager, food is too rich more

Quite good food, but I definitely felt like a 2nd class citizen due to treatment by staff and management 8/31/2006

The new ownership leaves something to be desired. For eating in, the price and quality are good, though, as stated, the service is the worst I have EVER recieved. For take out, the trays are a bit pricey and the service is slow. If they state a time when the food will be ready, it should be ready. I ended up waiting (twice) about 10 minutes each time, and not because the restaurant was busy...the food was just not yet ready. Overall, if they decide to treat you well, I'm sure it would be an enjoyable experience, but it was always negative...I must have been feeling masochistic since it took me a few experiences to figure things out. I don't know the owners or staff in any way, this is not meant to be malicious but I cannot in all honesty give this restaurant a positive review. Even though the food is good, I refuse to support the business due to shabby treatment. Pros: Food Cons: Service, Parking more

A True Classic and worth it! 7/7/2006

What a fun restaurant! We have driven by for years, and with all the new advertising everywhere, we were thrilled we finally tried it! The new owners are celebrating a year of ownership and they had a full house! The owners are the host and hostess and greet you with big smiles. While the wife was hugging other guests as they arrived, he was pouring wine for guests who were waiting for a table. Talk about feeling welcomed! The food was fabulous... try the fried calamari, tender and tasty! Our group of 4 enjoyed 4 different entrees and we all passed them around the table trying each others! One of the diners at our table asked for something that wasn't even on the menu and the chef did it for her! Everything was served incredibly hot and was really flavorful. As the wife seated us, she told us to leave room for dessert and I'm glad I did! Try the fresh fruit and sorbet (an Italian name of...?) 4 different flavors. It was a nice finish to a very large meal! They have a great wine list... and the prices are really reasonable. They have a lot of local wines and Napa wines, but also a lot of Italian wines and they were very helpful helping us choose something new and good. more

Fantastic Food! Great Service! 6/21/2006

I've been going to DiCiccos for over 20 years. New owners Rick and Allison have revitalized the menu, and have dramatically improved the quality of the food and service at DiCiccos. The focus is clearly on the food...high quality ingredients excellently prepared, and presented in appealing ways is emphasized. Generous portions have most diners taking a ""doggy bag"" home for the next day. Specialities of the house include Eggplant parmesean, with ample slices of eggplant that are NOT overpowered by the breading and sauce. The pasta combination is incredible! Ample portions of Lasagna, Spaghetti, and Ravioli, topped with either an Italian Sausage or a large Meatball. A wide variety of veal dishes, pasta dishes, pizza, steak, risotto, chicken, etc. A large menu with something for every taste. Be sure not to miss the homemade Canolli for dessert. Truly outstanding! DiCiccos is definitely worth your time. Give this established restaurant a try and let the new owners show you how good the food can be!! I recently took a group of 40 people there for dinner. Always a test of the restaurant's service, we had an outstanding time. All dinners were served in less than 10 minutes, and each one was prepared to the diner's choice. Every steak was cooked as ordered, and unlike most restaurants, the salads were all individually prepared at the time of order, and not ""premade"" for service later. If you choose the soup, they have a hearty minestrone that is outstanding, and they serve New England Clam Chowder on days other than Friday!! If you order soup, you'll be pleasantly surprised to see a bowl show up vs that tiny cup that most places serve. Everything down to the salad dressings and croutons was great. Fresh, flavorful ingredients....the compliments were flowing from every person. Not an easy task when you have a large group of discriminating diners!! Pros: Food, Service, Attitude more

Make a reservation - try it you will be hooked 6/19/2006

My wife and I love the new look, we had not been to DiCicco's in five years, since coming back by request of our friends, WE ARE HOOKED! I remember a flat tasting homemade bread now their ciabatta bread is fantastic, the red sauce has a sweeter taste not that bitter taste that I recall. I heard that the accordion player was still there on Saturdays but the new owners added a mandolin player on Fridays, that I wanted to see and did. He sat by the lobby and played the mandolin all evening, no singing nor strolling, just beautiful music (great job on this one to the owners). Very interesting talking with the new owners regarding the positive changes both inside and outside, they are a friendly couple that have a passion to make sure that the guest has a good dinning expierence. It's fun to watch the staff smiling and having a great time as they serve us. You still get alot of food so I would not make the mistake of filling up on the bread, as I did only once. Another nice thing that was helpful to me was the wine list, they put in tasting notes, this was a big help to me. Whatever Rick and Allisons plans are for the future changes I know they will be positive, people like these two will keep this landmark going and improve our dinning expierence! THANK YOU and your staff! Pros: The staff, owners and the food, Mandolin adds a romantic side Cons: parking, busy nights your in the lot next door more

Try It! You'll like it! 4/30/2006

I can't believe that anyone has had a bad experience at DiCicco's. Since I wrote a review 6 months ago, we have been back about 10 times. It is the consistently good food, the friendly smiles and the atmosphere we love. The couple that owns the place are friendly, cheerful and always recognize us when we walk thru the door. The greet us with smiles every time! The weekly specials are always very different and quite creative. The Butternut Squash ravioli are unbelieveable. Pros: Warm and friendly, Italian bread, Wine list Cons: Make reservations on weekends! more

WOW! The Food, the ambiance, the fun 10/29/2005

The new owners have taken this on with a plan to entice us in and they have! The atmosphere was friendly from the time I was greeted at the front door. The food was outstanding! They have a list of ""Chef's Suggestions"" in the front of the menu that had unique and creative dishes - plus the extensive menu gave everyone in our party something great choices! They're serving authentic cibatta bread and garlic bread at the table. The wine list was substantial - 4 pages with tasting notes gave us opportunity to learn about Italian wines too! The traditional ambiance was a joy to dine in, something other restaurants don't offer. Make reservations on Friday and Saturdays...we had a wait on Friday night, but were entertained by the seated mandolin player - very romantic! Reserve the table by the fireplace for added romance! This is our new favorite! Pros: Dinner Specials!, New Owners!, Creative Cuisine! Cons: Make Reservations, Portions too big! more

The Best Ever! 6/2/2005

We have been eating at DiCiccos for many years the food is always great! The Gnocchi is outstanding! (Try it with a pesto sauce) The service is also great. The portions are huge enough for lunch the next day! Pros: Big portions, Great service, Great food more

Fantastic Dinner for all! 4/30/2005

Wow! What a great meal our entire group had at this old fashioned, cozy, friendly and warm restaurant. Everything we ordered came hot, PIPING hot and was wonderful. The service, (apparently the owner's daughter) was fabulous. The place was bustling on a Wednesday night with guests ranging in age from children to older couples enjoying a night out on the town. There was even a group of kids heading off to the Prom as we arrived! The servings are huge, enough to provide lunch the next day. Try the sausage - apparently a house specialty! Pros: Old-Fashioned, Friendly, Great food Cons: too much salad, no sourdough more

Landmark 2/1/2004

Di Cicco's has been an institution for many years. I've dined here a number of times and strongly suggest that you order the Fettuccine alla Tequilla. It is the best- chicken strips with sundried tomatoes in a tequila cream sauce tossed with fettuccine. Good wine list and very nice staff that seems to have been with the place a while. more

Wow, I have always seen you guys there on S Bascom but never visited. Then I was cruising Citysearch and saw the ad and thought I would try, since I was in the mood for Italian. And you guys were Awesome! I can't believe I didn't come in before. My kids loved it too. I am a loyal fan now and I live right around the corner. Thanks! Pros: Kid Friendly, Great Pasta, Service more
