Di Cicco's Italian Restaurant

My fiancee and I decided to check out Di'Cicco's this weekend to try it. We both come from backgrounds in the restaurant business and my fiancee works in a fine dining Italian restaurant and has cooked italian food for most of his life. The food that we were served at Di'Cicco's was some of the worst Italian food I have consumed. First off the first glass of wine I ordered had turned and I was given a different kind of wine that was just awful. The salad was just iceburg and a peppercini with 2 slices of tomato for $3.25!!!! The appetizer was definitely frozen ravioli. The entrees were soaked in watery sauce and covered with cheese. The worst eggplant parmigiana I ever had, the eggplant was mushy and the combination of mushrooms and ground beef was strange. The only thing that was mediocre was the Tiramisu which we were told was made in house. The only positive thing I can say about this experience was the waitress was very kind and knowledgeable about the food. She was attentive to our needs and not invasive at all. The atmosphere was a little hokey and above our table were some dried flowers that were caked in dust, enough to fall off into your food, so that makes me wonder how clean their kitchen is. My fiancee and I were very disappointed at the fact that we wasted $70 on what felt like microwaved t.v .dinner food. We should have left after the bad wine an appetizers but we tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and got burned in the pocket instead. If you are not familiar with good italian food this is the place for you if you want to spend ridiculous amounts of money on pasta, but for the true italian food lovers BEWARE!!! After stopping at 2 other places before this one,(also expensive). We were hungry , it was late,and no time to go to our favorite italian restaurant on Federal. The prices were very high for 'pasta'. Come on people. Even the other entrees were way expensive. Just their 'classic' dinners - spaghetti, rigatoni, ravioli plates were 10 - 12 dollars. Then to add a dinner salad (yuk, only some lettuce,a slice of tomato,and a green pepper) was $3.25 ! If you wanted a meatball (2 of them and soggy) add $1.99 ! Sausage was the same. Come on over $15 for a simple spag dinner. The other entrees on the menu were so highly priced we didn't want to attempt to experience. So we went for their 'classic's. Well there was nothing classic about it. This italian food was no where near authentic. The sauce was soupy and was like eating spag in a red soup. They brought my $3.25 with this watered down italian dressing, terrible ! Had to go inside (as we sat at their tables on the patio) to ask for salt and pepper, and they do have grated parm cheese on request. The service was so, so. Not sure our server was very knowledgable either. As my husband ordered the vermicelli, she said we do not have that, but we do have angel hair pasta. DUH ! Look at the menu. Anyway, The serving portions were not up to par as you would have expected much more for the price. (should have been all you can eat !) Again everything was mussy, all of it. We will not return to this place ever ! If you look at the other entrees on their menu you better have won the lotto, because we refuse to pay $27.99 for a ribeye. It says grilled to taste with sauteed mushrooms. Yeah probably grilled to what and more mussy food, i.e. mushrooms ! Yuk. So next time we will make more time for our favorite place, and I would even go to The Olive Garden too, if needed as they have more authentic food than this joint. Thanks for viewing. more

When we entered, it was very empty in there. We checked over the menu and noticed the prices were pretty high for a mom and pop Italian place. Figuring the food would be worthwhile, we ordered pasta and side salads. The side salads consisted of leafy lettuce, 1 piece of tomato, and 1 ginormous green banana pepper. The Italian dressing was disgusting , 1/2 water and 1/2 oil. You could see it seperating in the dish. This would not have been the end of the world, however when you spend $10 on two side salads, you expect at least something more than lettuce and water/oil mixture.\r The pasta's were overly salty to the point where we couldn't eat them. I had to give Di Cicco's some love because there seem to be some HATERS out there. I don't understand why. The food is delicious! Beats Olive Garden hands down. Their bread is amazing. It's a white sourdough-ish bread, soft, doughy, and served warm. I dream about that bread! It puts Olive Garden's breadsticks to shame and is even better than the bread at Macaroni Grill. They serve it with butter or this olive oil dipping sauce that has balsalmic vinegar, garlic, parmesan cheese, and a bunch of herbs in it. I had their dinner salad and the dressing was great. It's a homemade ranch/ bleu cheese hybrid that's creamy but light at the same time. I had the Spinach Ravioli as my main course. YUM! It is served with alfredo sauce and artichoke hearts. Their alfredo sauce is a great consistency; not too thick/chunky (Olive Garden) and not too runny. My meal was fantastic!\r The Olde Town location is nice and they have great seating outside on their patio. The interior decor is a little cheesy, but let's be honest; I'm there for the food! Decor is far down on my list of priorities when it comes to restaurants I'll visit again and again. Food, price, and service are paramount. We bring our out of town guests to Di Cicco's and they always want to go back on subsequent visits. We always have great, quick service. The entrees range from $13 to $30 dollars. They serve Italian steak and seafood entrees as well. My husband and I were out the door for $45 dollars (minus tip) and that included two entrees, one dinner salad, bread, and 2 soft drinks. I think that’s pretty standard for most sit-down restaurants. No need for me to go into a lot of detail here because my wife and I had an almost identical experience as a previous reviewer. The atmosphere is quite nice, it is indeed in a prime location, and our server was excellent. The food was simply not good, which really surprised both of us. We did not get an appetizer - we got salads. They were nice enough, but nothing to take notice of and the dressing was watery. She got an Alfredo with chicken and bacon - the sauce was delicious but the chicken was badly overcooked, and I would not call the meat in the dish ""bacon"" by any stretch! It looked/tasted like the super-cheap sliced sandwich ham you get in packets. Not bacon. Not pancetta. Not even Canadian bacon. I ordered the gnocci with mushrooms/tomatoes in a garlic olive oil sauce. It simply had no flavor - no mushrooms, no garlic. It was not even salted properly, and it was supposed to have some grated Asiago over it - that was non-existent. These meals were not cheap, mind you. We might try it again simply for the Alfredo, but then again it's pretty easy to get good-tasting Alfredo (heck, Olive Garden's Alfredo is tasty!). This is the first time I've ever felt the need to leave a review for a restaurant. whoever is calling themselves 'finediners' in that other review definitely doesn't know the first thing about fine dining. Don't get me wrong, I didn't expect fine dining here, but based on the decor and location (prime real estate in old arvada) i certainly thought we would get pretty good authentic Italian. This was far from it. If I had to guess, I would say they fired the chef and promoted the dishwasher to save money.\r We started with the Calamari (a staple in Italian restaurants) and what we received was Fish Sticks. Not joking, this was definitely not real calamari. So bad it had to be sent back (and I never send food back). So to make up for that the waitress brought us the mussels. It took more than 20 minutes to get that to us and it was just as bad as the calamari. Although they were real mussels, they were extremely overcooked and the lemon butter wine sauce had much too much butter and the wine wasn't cooked down nearly enough. It tasted like buttery wine. Moving on to the entre, I ordered a simple pasta dish with sausage. The sausage was not authentic italian sausage, but instead some cheap ground sausage mixed into the sauce which there was much too much of. It was like a bowl of red soup with a little bit of linguini in it.\r I have to say though, the decor was great, the bread was fabulous, and the waitress was very nice and did a wonderful job as well.\r Its safe to say, we will never ever go back there again. A good choice for Italian food in Arvada. Not an 'upscale' restaurant but a cut above your usual local Italian eatery. The standard Italian fair, but also several nice surprises, and some good wine choices. I like the many private booths that give a sense of intimacy for those ""special occasions"". Service has ranged from very good to average dependent on the experience of the waiter you happen to get. Prices are a little higher than the local Pizzeria but not unreasonable. Dicicco's is one of those rare finds that you just keep going back to. The atmosphere is great and very comfortable. The service is excellent, and the food is just as good. If you're in the mood for some amazing pasta, this is the place to get it. We recommend the spinach ravioli, calzones, lasagna, tortellini, and anything else on the menu. Very nice. The basics are good. Service was very friendly. Prices are not awful. Nice Decor. I liked it very much. It did not replace my favorite Italian spot., but I would go again. They have some very interesing pasta dishes. I stuck with basics of a combination with spaghetti, lasagna and ravioli. Was not disappointed, was not WOW'd but it was good. Sauce was a bit mild but it was early afternoon and might not have melded completely. The minestone was very nice. The canneloni was very tasty. The salad was crisp and colorful, the dressing a bit mild for us - we like vinegar. They take reservations only for 8 or more. There are booths that are intimate.
