Poor Zoo/No Animals 8/8/2008

Hardly have any animals anymore. The most 2 of each animal. They DON'T HAVE ELEPHANTS! Costs $11 per adult and $5 for parking. Too crowded. In the amphibian building, you can never see any of them because there's always too much people in the way of the glass exhibits. Food: It's okay, but not worth it's price. Pack a lunch. CONCLUSION~Detroit Zoo is not a great zoo. I recommend you go to the Cleveland Zoo. Cleveland Zoo gets a lot of money, so its very nice/cheaper JailedMayor's2Blame4ZooNo$ more

Detroit Zoo Zoo Boo bash for Halloween! 9/29/2006

http://www.detroitzoo.org/option,com_events/task,view_detail/agid,70/year,2006/month,10/day,26/Itemid,413/ the above gives much more info than I can give but this is a FUN time for everyone! We are members of the zoo so we are able to purchase tickets in advance. The kids dress up, trick or treat throughout the zoo trail, which is decorated to the hilt! There are games and music for the kids, too! Great photo op for family Christmas pictures, too! It can get crowded so be prepared! more

Glad our Zoo is staying open!!! 4/6/2006

Our Zoo is beautiful and I am sure glad they decided to keep it open. You would think that the Detroit Zoo is mainly for kids but not too many years ago my best girlfriend and I went together to see the sites around Halloween. We being grandmothers had the times of our life just taking in the animals and the beautiful decorations. I love the monkeys...they make me laugh!!! When my children were younger I took a camcorder and took movies of everything from the train ride into the penquins den and the reptile house all around the entire zoo. Than when it would be a rainy day and they were home we would watch the movie as if we were right there again. It was quite neat!!!! more

the Detroit Zoo is for everyone! 3/27/2006

It's a great zoo with a lot to see and do, and you can get a lot of good pictures of the animals and the crowds, if you're a photo hobbyist. It's a big park, and it'll take pretty much a whole day to see it all, but it's definitely worth it. There are animal exhibits from prairie and African plains animals to Arctic animals, and don't forget the butterfly house and reptile buildings! Visit the farm exhibit too, because these days even horses and cows are exotic for some kids I for one am glad that the Detroit Zoo seems to be back on, for the time being, as it would be a shame if one of the metrot-Detroit area's greatest attractions was gone for good. If you've been there once and want to go back for more, I'd suggest getting a membership, as it pretty much pays for itself within a couple of visits. It's fun for kids, families, even twentysomething couples with some free time! Don't let Detroit's animals down, visit soon! more

Family Pass - It's worth it! 10/8/2005

For a family of four - make 5 trips and you paid for your family pass. Go every weekend, you can let the kids run wild. I think I've seen several of the same kids over andover again this past summer.... Bees can be bad near the concession stand, so are the birds. Bring really good walking shoes and something to wheel the kids and the family junk around in.... more

Beautiful Park, Well Maintained and Fun! 8/20/2005

I have strong memories of this park as a child. I was never allowed to go to the aviary because of allergies, well, now as an adult that is the first place I hit. The exhibits are well maintained and the animals appear to be very well treated. They host special events throughout the year and if you're local it is well worth buying a membership. If you are a history buff there are several historic buildings hidden throughout the park. more

A Days Worth of Fun 8/15/2005

This zoo makes for a day full of fun for the entire family. The zoo features unique exhibits in nice natural settings. The park is a little difficult to navigate but has wide, smooth paths to walk on. Restrooms and food are nicely spaced. Lots of new exhibits such as the polar bear exhibit with offer a nice close glimpse of their life. The staff is friendly and the park upkeep is great, more

Big fun at the zoo! 8/15/2005

This is a great zoo! It has practically everything you would want to see. It has wide walking paths, a train and lots of indoor and outdoor exhibits. The zoo makes a great day for people of all ages. New exibits include a polar bear exhibit and penguinarium! Lots of fun and educational. Lots of food and souviners available to buy as well. more

Great family day out! 8/9/2005

The Detroit Zoo is one of the best zoos in the country. In addition to the numerous animal exhibits they offer beautifully landscaped grounds and gardens and a gorgeous fountain. Be sure to check out the new Arctic exhibit- you can view the polar bears and seals swimming through a unique underwater observatory. The penguin exhibit is also one of the best I've seen. Although the building is a little outdated, you get a bird's eye view of the penguins remarkable speed as they swim right past you. If you have a family and will be visiting the zoo more than once you will save money by purchasing the zoo membership for one year. You will receive free membership and parking for the entire year. more

Nice zoo to visit! 8/9/2005

The Detroit Zoo offers many animals to view, as well as a reptile house and butterfly and bird exhibit. Tthe train rides are always a plus. I do wish that the train rides were free for members, though. We have a family membership that is a LIFE SAVER! The current rate to get into the zoo is $10 per adult, $5 to park the car, and $7 per child. Buy the family membership for $75! It truly pays for itself in one trip, at least for us. We have 5 people in our family and go to the zoo once a month! You also get 50% off other zoos throughout the country, and a 10% discount in the gift shop, as well as previews to upcoming events, and offers to purchase tickets to these before the general public. more

This zoo is nice for a Michigan zoo! 7/26/2005

This zoo bad for being in a michigan climate.I have been to nicer zoos though. Toledo, which isn't more than an hour form this zoo, is much better. It still is a nice place to take your kids on a nice day! This zoo is a great way to spend time with the family. This zoo offers special events such as Halloween at the zoo and Christmas lights at Christmas. more

Nice 7/18/2005

Nice zoo, but plants are often overgrown giving the zoo a messy appearance. Very fee staff available for questions. You have to walk very far to get to the best animals. I would truly recommend going to this zoo: don't take your business elsewhere. This zoo is worth it. more

The Zoo 6/17/2005

A nice place to go but most of the staff there are so grumpy and difficult it makes it hard to be there. Also members don't get any kind of benefite or preferential treatment. more

Decent Zoo 6/16/2005

This is the nearest zoo to my house, so it's the one I go to. It's not too bad, but I'm kinda sad that the elephants aren't there anymore. The arctic exhibit is really awesome though, and they've revamped some of the other exhibits over the last few years. There's a lot that is different since I was a kid. I took my 21 month old son there last month, and he loved going to the aviary to see the butterflies. That was really the highlight of his day because they fly right around you, they're not on the other side of the glass or something. I just wish their prices were a little lower and that they hadn't started charging to ride the train. more
