Awful 9/24/2011

When you walk up the stairs and see Desi Spice it appears to be just the kind of place to go if you're looking for authentic, delicious, and cheap Indian cuisine. It's not. The food is extremely over-priced, but that's not as big of a problem as the cooking issues of the food itself. The lamb was so tough my friend could not bite through it, the sauces were watery and very spicy. I appreciate a fair amount of spice, but nothing says amateurish so much as curries that taste of nothing but spice. Also, the mulligatawny soup was mush, it tasted like paper. The iced tea was OK, and the vegetable samosas were palatable, but if you're looking for good Indian try Mirch Masala, not Desi Spice. more

Disappointed 8/14/2010

\r \r I had been a huge fan of ""Touch of India"" until they sold it off..it became a horrible place to eat...these were the original owners(Deli Spice), so I was happy to try the new place. My favorite was always Chicken Kashmiri...OMG..DO NOT ORDER!! It was awful..it had so much gristle and fat and was extremely chewy! Naan was fine, Somosas was luke warm. Such a shame too...geuss I'll continue my search for GOOD Indian cuisine...this just isn't the place!\r \r \r \r \r more

Great Indian food... in my opinion. 4/26/2010

I'll go ahead and put this out there: I really like Indian food, however I'm not experienced enough to say ""Def go here vs. going there."" I've traditionally been taken to Indian restaurants, where my partner-in-crime knew what to order. Plus. even when you love something, it doesn't make you an expert. \r \r That being said, I think Desi Spice is fabulous. It's tucked away among the seedy bars (Highlander, Independent) in the Midtown Promenade. The service is super-friendly and helpful and I found the food to be flavorful and elegantly presented. It's not so expensive to break the bank, but it's not Buford Highway prices either. The nan bread was to die for, and the vegetable dishes we got (one had spinach and cheese, and one was eggplant) were absolutely addictive. \r \r I can't tell you how this truly stacks up... but for a nice Indian meal, good service and colorful location, you can't beat it. more

Indian home feel 4/11/2009

I am natively indian myself, and so I was extra critical of this place. I loved the way that I felt like I was in an indian home in India. My parents house is too american-washed, but I felt like I was in India again and my aunt and uncles house sitting down for a quiet meal. There were bollywood movies playing on the tv's. The food was amazing, the perfect amount of spice to satisfy my tastebuds and my american friend who isn't a spicy-fan's tastebuds. We got goat, chicken, and samosas. All of it was so good. Good service but not typical Indian flavors 4/10/2009

Read the reviews and thought I'd give it a try. The people working there are really nice but the food was really bland. I don't know if they're trying to be conservative with how they flavor things, but this was probably some of the least flavorful Indian food I've ever eaten. This Place Is Awful, the portion is soo tiny it looks like it's from a Kid's Menu. As For the Tea that was not Indian Spice tea it was scorched black and horrific flavor it was worse with sugar. 1/12/2009

Worst of All the Attitude of the Staff was really ugly and short with Us when we ordered. I will never return and I suggest you and anyone you know that LIKES Indian Food finds somewhere else to fill your craving. good news first. great service, convivial atmosphere, good location. bad news...the food was sub par, bordering on bland as if made from a packaged spice mix. overpriced and under-prepared. the mango lassi was terrible, watery and more like a thai iced tea in color and sweetness. if this is your idea of good indian food, you are missing out, try other places. Best Indian Food Ever! 9/10/2008

Our favorite restaurant! The food is wonderful - they use the best quality ingredients - everything is fresh. The people that work there are so very nice, too. We always enjoy our visits - food and service are great. Love to sit on the patio when its nice out. All the food is great - from appetizers to dessert. My husband has tried Indian restaurants when traveling - in major US cities and even oversea - nothing comes even close to Desi Indian Spice. more

There is no Indian restaurant that does not have a 4 / 4.5 star review. Pl be careful. We are an unethical breed of people and inflate our ratings. Least realising that all indian restaurants end up being 4.5 on 5. Pl use word of mouth and personal discretion to visit all of these restaurants.\r \r I wish health and happiness in yr experimentation with food. more

Elegant and Delicious 5/13/2008

This is one of our family favorite restaurants! Being military, we've frequented many far off places and experienced a number of Indian food establishments around the world. The atmosphere is polished and professional while being comfortable and entertaining at the same time. The food is outstanding and served graciously and prompt. Cloth linens, elegant cutlery and serving vessels elevate the dining experience way above the competition. Highly recommended! Great Indian food in a surprising location 4/15/2008

We saw a sign for Desi Spice while visiting Trader Joe's. We've been dying for a good curry since we left the UK, and were very pleasantly surprised by Desi Spice. Their lunch special was a fantastic deal. We'd love to go back for dinner sometime. Pros: The FOOD!! Fantastic Somosa and the Chicken Curry and Tikka Masala was great! more

Disappointing 6/21/2007

Desperately needed a fix of Indian food and this is where we ended up. Yes, the wait staff is very nice and attentive. And the food doesn't stink but it sure isn't up to snuff. Their chutneys were more like watered down syrup. Found one kind of dead lump of mango in the mango chutney, the mint chutney was sour cream based and whatever that hot chutney was I'll never know. The rice was tasty but on the overall, I'd say that things were below average. We're going to have to cast about for a new spot I guess. Oh, in terms of location, nothing wrong with that location at all. Easy to get to in a revitalized shopping center thanks to Trader Joe's. Pros: Good Service, you can sit outside Cons: Not great food more

good Indian food, excellent service 10/30/2006

The outdoor seating on the patio at Desi Spice is a great place for a relaxed meal. They never seem busy, so it's easy to get a table, even for big groups. If you sit inside, be warned... the Bollywood playing on the TV is very addictive! This is not the best Indian food in town, but it's one of the best overall Indian dining places in Atlanta. The service is wonderful. Pros: outdoor patio seating, very attentive service Cons: parking can be very difficult on weekend nights more
