Best

I just moved to the ATL and have been trying different spots around the city, and the Dark Horse has the best tenders in town. I don't know how they do it, considering the amount ...

Worst

bad service, not too crowded when i was there (1/2 full) and i still waited 10 for a drink. place is okay, just no class or style. suited better for athens (u of g) than atlanta...

Highlands Meat Market 4/9/2003

Since this is a Highlands bar, I go here. Other than that, it's nothing special. Cool tile floor, friendly bartenders (if you can get to them), and the jukebox is fun (lots of variety). If you get here late enough though, be prepared to wait forever in the entry line, and be prepared to constantly squeeze through the crowd on the inside. Pros: Meeting new people, Jukebox Cons: Long line to get in, Long line for bar, Really crowded more

OVERRATED! 2/5/2003

This place is dark and loud and not very fun at all. The drinks are way overpriced and if your looking for fun in the Highlands, you might as well go to Hand-In-Hand or Neighbors (right next to each other). There are just so many other bars with a better atmosphere than Dark Horse, including Atkins Park or Limerick Junction (a quaint little irish bar). Pros: 3 outside decks Cons: expensive, loud, blah more

Falls short of potential 1/17/2003

If you're into kackis and polo shirts this is your place. The clientele here is definately yuppie and the bar is by far the most annoying bar EVER to try and order from. The music is WAY too loud for any bar style and the drinks are expensive. The only redeemable qualities of this bar is the motive, the fact that 10 High is downstairs, and the it has a Ms. Pac Man/Galaga combo machine. Pros: Ms. Pac Man, Close to Other bars Cons: To many preppy dudes, can't order beer, concert music levels more

Hilarious! 1/17/2003

It is hilarious that anybody would think the Dark Horse is a place to see and be seen. My friends and I call it the ""Dork House"" because of the crowd. This is certainly not a place i would consider a ""beautiful people"" hangout, though it is a relaxed comfortable place to just hang. You'd be far more likely to find a Georgia Tech engineering student in here than a local celebrity. For a beter crowd in the Higlands, try Fontaines, Highland Tap (late) or Gecko. more

Terrible service, rude employees 1/13/2003

Go to the Dark Horse Tavern if you want to have a lousy time. Service is poor, employees are rude, and there are always too many people. So not worth waiting in line... Cons: service, crowded more

dark gem in the Highlands 12/12/2002

I have yet to leave this pub without having a great converstaion with a fine lady:-) Pros: outside deck, stiff drinks, no cover Cons: no dance floor, can get too packed more

hey, another college bar! 9/25/2002

bad service, not too crowded when i was there (1/2 full) and i still waited 10 for a drink. place is okay, just no class or style. suited better for athens (u of g) than atlanta. just my opinion. worth a stop if u are in to picking up, but beware, every girl i saw was in the plus 20 range. (that's pounds, not years, my friend) more

Where's the door 8/14/2002

After waiting in line to go to what I thought was a cool non-buckhead hangout , I suddenly realized that ""BAR"" in buckhead most be owned by the same people. There was nothing but Dudes posing for the less than ample crowd of women. Two Men/Boys were urinating in the same toilet as I enter the inadequte bathrooms. ""nice"". The music was so loud and obnoxious I had to leave. Maybe that's why women don't go here. It's basically a frat party. I went back to Fontaines. Pros: sorry Cons: all frat boys, bad loud music more

Yuppies Unite 7/31/2002

This is a pretty cool place to hang out at for awhile. The crowd can get a little too big, but then that just makes it easier to meet people. It's been a good place to meet respectable women who can actually hold a conversation. Pros: good location, nice people, good drinks Cons: crowded, pay parking more

Music and Tater tots! What a combo! 7/31/2002

Dark Horse Tavern is great for food. It's your basic bar food, but a bit more upscale. The hummus is great and the tater tots couldn't be better. Nice and crispy, just like I remember from grade school! The only downfall was the loud music in the restaurant. Jukebox volume needs to come down a few notches. However, heading downstairs to 10 High is great for live music. Nice, intimate venue with great live music. Seen several up and coming bands there and a few famous people in the audience. Always a blast! After the live music, there is a great DJ with room to dance. Cons: Restaurant is Loud more

Cool Crowd 6/27/2002

I always have fun but sometimes it gets overly crowded. It can be a long trip to the restroom. more

Cool, but crowded.... 6/27/2002

Everyone who lives in Atlanta between the ages of 24 and 35 should hang at the Darkhorse at least once. It is a cool place, the food is decent, the drinks are fine and the music coming from the basement can be good. However, be prepared to be totally squished and bumped on Fri and Sat nights...this place gets PACKED!!!! Not a bad singles scene although there seems to be a bit of attitude from those who forgot to leave their business casual clothes at the office or think that the Darkhorse is some kind of swank place. more

Girls are in the minority 6/6/2002

The lack of females here means that if you want your pick of post-college frat boys with a bit of a beer gut, this is your place. If you can fight your way through the deafeningly loud bar crowd to the three-tiered back patio, you'll be able to pleasantly converse with your tables mates. more
