This place is a nightmare! 8/26/2010

All of the previous horrible reviews are 100% true! Unfortunately we didn't read them until our pet had some serious issues. The health insurance that we have paid for is useless because it doesn't cover anything more than basic care. This office only covers basic care. For anything out of the ordinary, you will be referred to a specialist which is not covered by Danville vets plan. I could go on and repeat the same stories that other people have already posted but the bottom line is this place is so awful, I don't care that we paid for insurance for 2 dogs, we will still be going to another vet from now on without using the insurance so we can get some quality care, good skills and compassion for our pets. This office has none of that and my pets deserve better! Don't waste your time for nothing but frustration. more

High quality care at Danville Vet Hospital 5/29/2010

I have been taking my cats to Danville vet for three years amd am very pleased with the care and attention they receive from Dr. Haxby and Drs. Briggs and Wong in Dr. Haxby's absence. Their illnesses have always been correctly diagnosed and they have been treated appropriately. I moved to Dublin from SF three years ago. Danville Vet is the only practice I've taken my cats to except for a late night emergency. I left a vet practice in SF that I'd taken my cats to for 15 yrs. I was anxious about the transition, but quickly found it to be very smooth. It didn't take long for them to prove to me that they would provide the highest quality care, as was the case in SF. I would recommend Danville Vet to anyone looking for a practice to take their companion animal(s) to. I trust Dr. Barbara Haxby implicitly with my cats' lives. One of my kitties birthday is this month. She received an ecard birthday card from Danville Vet this a.m. Very thoughtful touch! more

Death to Mollie 4/15/2010

Our dog Mollie was under the care of Danville Vet Hospital. When she becme sick, she was percribed multitudes of medicine and hugh bills, she did not respond and could not stand up. I sent my husband to have her put down, she no longer had any quality of life and was in so much pain. Oh but, again they charged a bundle ($800+ again) and sent her home, with more drugs. The following week, we could not allow her to suffer anymore, called the vet to speak to an answering service, with no referal in case of an emergency. We called and called, this be after closing on a weekend. We are all crying, the dog is in so much pain, we took her to Bishop Ranch and had them put her to sleep. Monday, we get a call back around 11:30, asking if I would like to bring Mollie in as she understood "Mollie isn't feeling well"...I was so angry, I waited to speak to the vet in person. This is a group that will price gouge you to death, with little or any corcern for your pet! I wish someone had alerted me more

Metacam 2/11/2010

I brought in our cat Coco to be examined for oral problems. She was examined by Dr. Kenneth Briggs and prescribed an antibiotic and the pain medication, ?Metacam.? This was around 4:30 pm. The drugs were both orally administered to Coco in the recommended dosages at approximately 6:30 pm. Within 15 minutes she started showing signs of extreme distress and appeared to be in great pain up until the time she died at 8:30 pm.\r \r Searching for answers, I went online. "Metacam Kills," is only one of many frightening articles I found on the Internet about this drug. Here is an excerpt from another article:\r \r "Metacam Solution for Injection (for cats) and Metacam Oral Suspension (for dogs). Metacam Solution for Injection was approved for one-time use only in cats on 28 Nov 2004 (NADA 141-219). Metacam Oral Suspension was approved for dogs only on 15 Apr 2003 (NADA 141-213). As of July 2006, the approval status of both medications has not changed.\r \r The narrow safety margin in cats is ref more

always complaining... 9/9/2009

First of all there is no way to rush bloodwork results. The lab has to come pick it up and drive it to the lab. Then the Hospital staff have to download the lab and enter it into every clients file. Once that is done the doctors look at the results and call the owners. If they are in a surgery or appointment at the time they will not see it until they go back to their desk. Also the Health Care Plan is a discount program that you pay annually for. Generally if you renewed the plan and never got to use the discounts there is a chance to get a refund. HOWEVER, if you have already used the discounts and the discounts you received exceeded the cost of renewal, why on earth would you get money back? The plan is even useful when it comes time to put you pet to sleep and saves you on the cost of the procedure and the cremation of your pet. What you are paying for is the service. Plastered right on the front door there is a sign saying where the 2 closest Emergency vets are if the vet is close more

Don't, just don't 8/30/2009

Their negligence cost me grief and my dog suffering when she dog was very sick. She was born with a heart defect and had been a patient there since she was a puppy. When she was eight years old she suddenly developed difficulty breathing and couldn't walk ten feet without looking distressed. I called them and they told me to bring her in and I did, however I had to wait twenty minutes before Dr. Haxby came into the exam room. This entire twenty minutes my dog was gagging and coughing and gasping for breath. Dr. Haxby said she would run some tests and told me she would call me. I walked out of the exam room in grief - I felt as though I had been dismissed and wasn't welcome to wait there while the tests were being done. I went out to the lobby where some new staff person went over the charges with me and I had to sign something stating I would be responsible for the bill. Now, I had gone there with all my pets for ten years and easily spent thousands of dollars there and always paid my more

Heart Broken!! 1/22/2009

EDIT: TO "WHO K." WHO POSTED A REVIEW RESPONSE TO OUR NEGATIVE REVIEWS. REPUTABLE VETERINARY CLINICS OF WHICH I HAVE BEEN TAKING MY CATS TO HAVE ASSOCIATIONS WITH EMERGENCY CLINICS OR CAN AT LEAST REFER AN EMERGENCY CLINIC IN THE EVEN THAT AN ANIMAL IS EXTREMELY SICK AND REQUIRES EMERGENCY CARE. EMERGENCY VET CLINICS HAVE THE ABILITY TO DO BLOOD WORK ON THE SPOT AND TREAT ANIMALS IMMEDIATELY. MY DAD DID NOT TAKE MY CAT TO DANVILLE VET AFTER HOURS, HE TOOK HER DURING NORMAL OPERATING HOURS AND DESPITE HER HORRIBLE CONDITION THEY SENT HER HOME WITH HIM AND NEVER ONCE RECOMMENDED THAT HE GET EMERGENCY MEDICAL ATTENTION FOR HER WHICH WAS ABSOLUTELY IMPERATIVE TO HER SURVIVAL!!!!! THIS IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM I HAVE. I UNDERSTAND THEY ARE LIMITED ON WHAT THEY CAN DO AT THEIR FACILITY BUT IF AN ANIMAL COMES IN THAT OBVIOUSLY NEEDS EMERGENCY MEDICAL ATTENTION THEN THEY SHOULD BE TREATED AS SUCH AND REFERRED TO AN EMERGENCY FACILITY THAT CAN PROVIDE THAT KIND OF SPEEDY ATTENTION INSTEAD OF more

WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THEM TO MY WORST ENEMY! 4/2/2008

I took my dog to this vet ever since he was 6 weeks old. They supposedly should have known my dog pretty well after 8 plus years, but unfortunately they did not.\r \r I brought him in regularly for all his shots, visits, boarded him when I went on vacation, so you would think they would have known him pretty well.\r \r I took him in to the vet here in September because I noticed he was stumbling. Right away WITHOUT testing him for anything, the vet said looked like he had neurological problems and gave him a prescription for 60 milligrams of prednisone. I was to give this to him for a few times a day, then ween him off. I noticed NO changes.\r \r I have carried Danville Vet's insurance since my dog was small. It is a TOTAL RIP OFF! I NEVER got out of their for under a couple hundred dollars.\r \r I recently called them because my dog had not got any better, just worse. It got to the point where he couldn't walk or even stand to urinate. I had to carry him everywhere and hold him so he could ur more

Caveat emptor!! 5/18/2007

One of the veterinarians did not heed the manufacturer's warning on a prescription medication he prescribed for my dog and in two weeks she was dead from heart failure. He failed to do any testing to see if she could tolerate the medication, despite her condition being well documented in their records and the clear warning on the manufacturer's label. more

Sick puppy! 8/6/2006

I had a sick puppy that I was pet-sitting and it got really sick. I called the hospital and it was probably 11pm in the evening but I was surprised to get a phone call. The vet then met me at the hospital 30 minutes later and took a look at friends puppy. He was very nice, and very compassionate and calmed my nerves. He gave me some medication and the pup was steady enough to come home with me, and he was a happy little puppy again. I would definitely recommend this Veterinary Hospital to friends and family!
