Best Place to Shop for Dance Wear and Shoes 11/12/2011

I love the personal attention I receive at Dance Togs. Each time we visit we are greeted as we enter, even if the shop is busy. There are instances when we have to wait for help, but that just means we can look at some of the other items in the store before having my child sized. All of the employees or managers are interested in giving us great personal service as well as ensuring each shoe fits correctly. I have been shopping here for several years and appreciate the commitment this business has at providing a specialized service for a specialized clientele. Other big stores are fine for beginning dancers, though a committed dancer and their family will appreciate the knowledge and expertise this shop offers. more

I'd rather shop at Payless! 11/11/2011

This shop will charge you a fitting fee if you don't buy, but apparently there's no guarantee that the shoes will actually fit well. We went here to buy my 8-year-old a pair of jazz shoes. Brad helped us, fitted my daughter in a pair of shoes, and we're done. After my daughter's dance rehearsal that same night, my daughter told me that the shoes were HURTING her feet...the heels of the shoes were digging into her skin. I tried to exchange the shoes, but since they were worn (once) they won't take them back. We ended up at Payless, got a much better price, and way better customer service. As much as we try to support local businesses, this is one business that I DO NOT RECOMMEND. Go to Payless. They now carry jazz and ballet shoes. more

Poor Phone Service 11/2/2011

A friend recommended this shop to me so I was quite surprised by the service I received. I called to get some ballpark prices on a few items (since I'll be driving so far, I wanted to just get an idea). When I called the woman who answered was extremely short with me and clearly annoyed that I was requesting prices on her items. I was planning on driving about an hour to shop this store but now I'll definitely be looking elsewhere. more

Great place 6/5/2011

I went there because I needed character shoes for a show and they gave me exactly what I needed and I was greeted with a friendly hello. more

VERY HELPFUL! 4/5/2011

This place was recommended by my daughter's dance teacher. Looking at some of the reviews I wasn't sure. There were a lot of people saying they were not helpful. Since I have no clue what I am looking for where dance shoes & dance wear is concerned, I hesitated; but I really didn't want to drive all the way to Vancouver or Lloyd Center for a pair of tap shoes. I decided to check it out first. And as soon as I walked in, I was greeted and asked what I could use help with. Both ladies on staff that day could not have been more helpful. I will gladly go here again if my girls decide to continue with dancing. The variety was great and the prices are reasonable. Loved it! more

A family Run Business with Personality 4/17/2010

This is a business run by a family with roots in dance. They know their stuff. They have a great inventory. Each family member has their own quirks, but they are good people. They and staff sometimes get a little overwhelmed when the store is busy. That happens at most places -- family run or employee-staffed. I actually prefer supporting a business where the owners are active instead of the more common retail store that is only staffed with employees. The personalities make it more interesting. Pros: Personality, Good Selection, Knowledgeable, West side Cons: Personality, shorter hours than others more

Great Service for NewCommers to Dancing 1/5/2010

The store was very busy when we arrived, yet the person working at the time, Alia, was very patient and helpful. Everythng was well organized and they seemed to have good stock of various items we needed. Pros: Excellent attitude in helping my daughter make selections more

Always a good experience 9/12/2009

Nice selection and kind service. I'm surprised to see other people have reported bad experiences. I've never heard of anyone having a bad experience here, it's always been touted to me as the best place to go for dance needs. I've gone there several times over the last 7 years and was just checking the hours online because I know it is a specialty shop and not a national chain, when I came across all these negative comments. I'm sorry those reviewers feel they had a poor experience but it really makes my wonder what THEY did. Many of us have had years of customer training service and know from experience there are those 5% who will never be satisfied, that is more about them then it is about the service providers. You get a lot more from people by being kind, regardless if you are the buyer or the seller. Pros: Locally owned more

Excellent fittings and service 8/21/2009

I was hesitant after reading some of the negative reviews but decided to give it a try and so very glad I did. I reminded my daughter to go in as we would a regular fitting. I called a few days before to see when the fitter would be in and to see if we needed an appointment. I had no problem paying a fitting fee if we couldn't find the right pointe shoe because the education and expertise was well worth it. A fitting fee is common and well worth it considering the value of the dancer's feet and keeping them healthy. We had a brief wait as there were others being serviced which is totally natural in any facility. This will be our store to shop at for all pointe shoe needs. The staff and fitter were extremely friendly and helpful and a lot of fun. There was a lot of sharing of information. Excellent service with many smiles. There was a wide range of choices in pointe shoes and they were willing to order if my needs weren't met. I will be back. Pros: Takes time to fit you in the right shoe, excellent service more

Bad Reviews 6/15/2009

After reading the reviews posted by customers, I have decided to not even try this place. I have been searching for near by dance supply stores, but I will simply go to a store with a better customer service rating since I am new to dance, I want a helpful staff and information about what I am purchasing before I buy. Thank you everyone for warning me against this store. more

Worst on all accounts 2/24/2009

We should all go there and size our stuff to buy on line or at the leotard... anywhere but here... the people running this place DO NOT GET IT........ they have a big sign that says if you do not buy they will charge you a fitting fee... I say ... let them try........... I do not understand how this place stays in business... there must be some ince$tuous relationship with certain studios or.. the owner operates the place as a hobby and doesnt need the business... We live in Beaverton and drive many miles to avoid doing business with them......they are rude... aloof.. snobby .... need I go on... They are stuck in the fifties or something.. some time when customer service and politeness gave way to snobbery and rudeness.... they quite literally seem to say with every snooty word... we are doing you a favor by having this store here and our great dance knowledge available for you... clap clap.... garson.. bring me my late ... I hope this store dies a slow and painful death. Pros: hmmmm.... nawda Cons: rude rude rude more

best store in town 12/1/2008

i always go to dance togs for pointe shoes. the people who work there are very helpful in finding the right kind for me while keeping my price range and comfort in mind. they're pointe shoe cards are convenient and allow for good discounts. they are the best dance store in town and everyone i know goes there when they need something. Pros: customer service, local, small business Cons: location, not open on sundays, close early more

Dancer's Heaven 9/13/2008

I really enjoy shopping at dance togs, they have everything i could ever need for all my dancing needs. Considering the quality of their Dance items its really worth the extra cash. more

Pricey stuff 7/24/2008

Well we decided to check out Dance Togs since we needed a few items for my girls right away. If you've never been there before, it can be hard to find. (especially if your new to the area) Once we got there, the lady working the sales floor didn't seem to be all that friendly. She was decent, but didn't seem like she really wanted to help if she didn't have to....like we were a bother or something. I have to say though, the lady previously mentioned, did offer to call their supplier to see if an item I wanted came in a bigger size. I did have to ask her if she could though. All in all, our experience wasn't anything terrible, it was just mediocure. Prices were also somewhat higher then other places I've been to. I would recommend buying online if you have the time to. Cons: Hard to find, c/s not all that wonderful more

Knowledgable and listens 6/29/2008

I have had a complete and total opposite experience of every one on here. Dance togs has always had what i needed or very helpful to get what i am missing in stock. Instead of the other store in lloyd center who never took time to really fit or listen to me. The people in Dance togs have taken hours to help me with my feet. They never fit me in a shoe i told them hadn't worked for me and always explained what they were doing as they were going. I would never switch stores after I had such a horrible experience at the other store and a great one at this place. Pros: knowledgable, listens to you, great merchandise Cons: out of the way more

Multiple Horrible Experiences....NO MORE!!! 5/30/2008

I decided to give Dance Togs their third and final chance, figuring the whole 3 strikes you're out rule wouldn't apply. It did. And all I was simply needing was a pair of tights for my daughter's upcoming recital. Outside of their highly priced merchandise, which I have found to be no different than other dance stores I have visited, their customer service is...well, there is none. And that's to be polite. The first time I went in it was about 45 minutes until closing. When we walked in no one greeted us, my daughter and I were followed around, and when I asked for assistance (the lady never offered) I was given such a look of disgust I immediately put up my guard. This, too, was the first time I had been in a dance store. My daughter is 4 and taking tap so I wanted to make sure I knew about the product and that she would be comfortable. The lady was so impatient and soooo unhelpful we eventually walked out. Nothing in hand. This also upset my daughter as she believed she wasn't getting her dance supplies. Needless to say, we will NEVER shop here again. Even with the discount we get from our dance studio, it's not worth it. I would like to say though that THE LEOTARD, 503-284-9244, inside the Lloyd Center is absolutely amazing. The employees there are just so helpful and sweet. They work extremely well with kids and have a lot of patience. They have always answered all my questions and cleared any concerns I may have. Plus, they have, not surprisingly, the same merchandise Dance Togs carries, but very much affordable. I know it's in Portland, but if you're willing to make the 20-30 minute drive....trust me....it's worth every minute in the car. Pros: Good Selection Cons: No customer service and what is given is horrible; high prices more

I agree, bad customer service 2/7/2008

The four times I entered this store were all mediocre experiences. Either no one was around, or they were complaining about other customers, in front of customers. I don't think I'll go there again, unless it is an emergency. Pros: decent selection Cons: high prices, bad service more

not worth it 11/4/2007

I agree with those who have had poor customer service here. Sorry if someone misunderstood and thought that it had anything to do with one person in particular, but I have had poor customer service there on several occasions. Why go back then? It's the only dance shoe place on this side of town that I had found, but I guarantee you now that I will be shopping online only to simply avoid this place. The owners should know that 'mother's will talk' and I have spoken to several mothers at my daughters studio who dislike this store immensely. Someone will get smart one of these days soon and open another option for those of us on th westside! more

Dance Togs is the Best! 9/2/2007

I have been shopping at Dance Togs for over twenty plus years and I have found this store to be the best for any dancer's needs in ballet, jazz, character, tap, shoes, leotard and tights and specialty items. My children have all had pointe shoe fittings, jazz shoes, tap shoes and ballet shoes and each time it is the best. The employees are all dancers or better yet educators of dance and provide their area of expertise in any given fitting. The young gal who operates the store is to be commended for her perseverance in a life long challenge with a mental disability and the courage to be in a customer service job and deal with the ever judgmental public. I have know the owner of the store for over forty years and her attention to detail and providing the customer with the best customer service is to be commended in a world that demands attention now and has little or no time to apply patience in what I would consider a specialty store. We are so lucky to have Dance Togs in our community and provide the magical experience for our children to have that first pair of ballet shoes or pointe shoes fitted correctly and with such expertise. My hat is off to you all! Pros: fantastic customer service Cons: on a busy day you might have to wait a few minutes more

Bad customer service is going to put this place out of business! 12/13/2006

I agree with the last poster. The merchandise is fine and the selection is adequate, but the prices are nothing special. Nevertheless, I would be happy shopping there for dance essentials except for the abysmal customer service. Three times I have gone in and cut my visit short, either buying less than I had planned or buying nothing at all, entirely because of the young woman running the store. On two occasions she followed me around, hovering about two feet away, while I browsed the racks. Bad enough -- but she was chewing gum loudly and disgustingly, which was a terrible experience for me. Today I went in again and decided to step up and say something -- when I had chosen my purchases I went to the counter and asked politely if she could not chew gum while ringing up my purchase. She stared me in the face and announced that she chews gum all the time but I was the first person to be that rude to her. Needless to say, I walked out without purchasing anything. Someone should explain to this person that you never argue with someone who is about to give you money! Pros: Good parking, good selection, average prices. Cons: Customer service is worse than bad. more
