Nice old theater 12/15/2005

This is a really neat old theater full of character. It is beautiful inside and out. When you walk around you feel like you have taken a step back in time. Not only can you see a movie there, they also host some plays and dance recitals. We want on a field trip to watch a play for children and my daughter perfomed in a dance recital there. This theater is classically beautiful. more

Classic theater 8/18/2005

The crest theater in downtown Sacramento is awesome! Usually the crest plays independent films which are increasingly difficult to find these days. The theater also serves as a venue for bands and is annually holds the Sacramento music and film festival. The theater is small and quiet but definately a wonderful Sacramento secret. more

Nostalgia and Art Go Hand in Hand 8/8/2005

The Crest Theatre is a wonderful example of renovated Sacramento architecture. It combines the richness of the old building with new state of the art technology able to direct large scale concerts and film festivals. The Crest Theatre is most known for showing art and independent films, and it is a great place to go to watch some amazing films that are not in the mainstream theatres. Every fall there is a film festival produced by local artists called "A Taste of Sacramento" which showcases all local talent in directing, acting and producing. more

A Great Piece of Nostalgia 7/12/2005

No visit into Downtown is complete without a trip to the Crest make sure that you have time to. As its always fun to go see a movie or even at times concerts there. The inside of the theatre is totally beautiful the mixture of the old with the new. There might be only Art Films and Independant Films but its a great day out watching something you might not normally of seen. more

Editorial
  • The Skinny
Refurbished to its former glory, the Crest drips with vintage style. A beautiful gilded ceiling pattern gives an air of elegance to whatever the Crest presents--be it the annual Sammies music awards, one of promoter Jerry Perry's charity music showcases or the latest underground films on three screens. This theater gives Sacramento a sense of big-city confidence and charm.

    The Scene
Grab popcorn or candy at the snack bar and view theater artifacts and memorabilia encased downstairs. The Crest's main theater seats 1,000 and has hosted performances by artists ranging from locally grown Cake to Nirvana, Ray Davies and Train.

    The Style
No Hollywood blockbusters here. The Crest screens obscure, independent, art-house films, and film festivals like ''Spike & Mike's Sick & Twisted Festival of Animation,'' which has drawn quite a following in Sacramento.
