Good, minus a few baked goods 2/22/2010

There's a lot I like about Crema. The sweet potato sandwich is always a good choice. I love a lot of their baked goods, but I've had a few recently that were disappointing. Their cookies are great: choc chip, oatmeal, ginger-all good. The maple walnut bar, carrot cake and banana date bread-also great. However, NOT a fan of their cupcakes. Had the salted caramel chocolate one recently, cake was dry, frosting was way too heavy and thick. Also had a macaron, they've gotten on the bandwagon with the trendy treat of the moment. They need to work on it though. Macarons aren't supposed to be very tall, and this one completely shattered when I bit into it. Today I tried the flourless mudslide cookie. With a name like that, I was expecting a dense, chocolatey, fudgy morsel of richness. Chocolate meringue cookie would have been a far more accurate name. It wasn't bad, it just was not at all rich or chocolatey, so disappointing because of what I was expecting. In terms of the space, it's fabulously decorated, almost always packed so you have to watch patrons like a hawk and pounce when you see a table free up. I get a weird vibe from the staff. They always seem very unhappy and not friendly. I don't know if I've ever seen one of them smile. Aside from this, nice place to have lunch if you can find a seat and nice place to grab a snack. Pros: Sweet potato sandwich, some cookies Cons: Certain baked goods, read on... more

very nice coffee shop with sandwiches and sweets! 10/27/2009

They hit a home run here, happy to report! This is a refreshing cafe, unlike 'urban pain' with very tasty coffee their barista is a STAR. The Foccacia sandwich with chicken and artichoke is to die for and thats not a joke! Pros: A good reason to meet in Harvard Square Cons: Quirky flow, menu locale is off, a bit tight with ""campers"" more

AMAZING 10/17/2009

When my friend showed me the link on the Internet, I thought it was going to be just your typical soup and sandwich place. Woah was I wrong! When you walk into the doors, you are instantly warmed- not by the heat, but the warn atmosphere. The employees behind the counter were REALLY friendly and accommodating. The menu selection was great- different takes on coffee shop classics. I got a salad and my friend got this delicious walnut, goat cheese, and honey sandwich with sweet potato fries. To finish the meal, we ordered a cupcake and hot chocolate. The cupcake was one of the best I've ever had. Crema is one of the best cafes in Cambridge! Pros: relaxed atmosphere, great food, nice employees more

REVIEW FROM CITYSEARCH's 3BUCKBITES DICTATOR 7/12/2009

(Side note: this is one of my absolute favorite places in Harvard Square) Because breakfast is the most important meal of the day, of course. I'm not one normally for egg sandwiches, but Crema's just may change my mind. The english muffin, first of all, is homemade, putting those Thomas things to shame. After you're done marveling at how soft and flaky the bread is, you detect the pillowy soft layers of egg and gooey melted cheese. I happen to like a healthy dose of chopped scallion and tomato as well. Mmm. Another plus: the cashier was a good sport about the fact I paid her entirely in nickels and dimes. Crema, you get an A on customer service as well as beating egg mcmuffins into the ground. They also bake in-house a delectable array of baked goods, including saucer-sized chocolate chip cookies with the perfect crisp edge to soft middle ratio. (A steal at a dollar and change.) more
