No AC, flys in the bar, high prices, and no cable TV 4/29/2012

I stopped there for the fist time today for lunch since Jax Beach seemed to be complete blocked by the cops (4-30-12). At noon, the place was mostly empty except for the limited staff and flys. I had the mahi sandwich and a draft domestic beer. Price was $19 for only a decent sandwich on a hamburger bun! The bar is very small, they only have 3 beers on draft, and NO AC (?), and finally, no cable TV...just rabbit ears! I am guessing they are not doing well. Bar tender was nice, but hey, I could have gone to Captain D's Seafood and had a very nice fish sandwich meal for $6.50 (I did last week and it was great). So, my recommendation is AVOID, and the owner should stop spending money on the big Ads in the TU and get cable, a decent AC system, and some more TVs. But with these prices, I wouldn't go back even if he did. Flys in the bar?? Wish the health dept would pay them a visit. more

STAY AWAY FROM CRAZY FISH! 3/20/2012

OMG! IF ONLY I had found this site and the reviews!! This past Saturday, 4:35 pm we stumbled into this place because I had seen ad in newspaper. Food was so so...the 10.00 coconut shrimp appetizer was 6 pieces and looked exactly like what I could have picked up in frozen food aisle. We over looked that and carried on because of where we were. Son's drink was flat. My husband had to get his own refill on ice tea. The meal came. It was ok. I'll even say as hungry as we were...it was good. Way overpriced but settled because of where we were. Then the sad part. The waiter started mopping the floor while we were eating. We had to leave. The chlorine overtook our lungs, burnt our eyes etc. The owner just yelled at the kid. Said sorry to us and added, ""It just isn't good timing on your part I guess."" WHAT!!?? I have never had anyone blame me for my poor timing for dinner!! EVER! I just stared at him. I said, ""Yeah, it's too bad..we were hoping to enjoy a dessert."" ""Oh well."" said the owner. WHAT??!!! I just couldn't believe it! Then he said, ""I took off your son's sprite."" When I just stared at him, he then took off on his own and started name calling me!! ""You rude, snotty woman and you should be ashamed of yourself!"" You want something for nothing!"" I kept everything business ethically and he just started going off! I thought he was insane. Then he accused me of being DRUNK!!! I kept trying to say, ""No, I don't want anything from you sir, EXCEPT a CONTRITE apology!"" He could not do it!! He could not offer anything and he told me he was offerng Nothing! He said take it or leave it and he has been in business for three years and doesn't need me to ever come back. This man who is the owner (JOSH) is absolutely insane regarding on how to conduct business!! I can only say, STAY AWAY!! Unless you want to settle for skidrow tactics and want to be treated badly! This man (owner) has no diplomacy skills and absolutely picks and chooses his victims within his establishment. I question the kitchen and safety/sanitary standards now due to this owner's I AM KING policy! I question the wacky charges that I was willing to pay to enjoy something different and now and sorta was until the BLEACH wiping out my lungs/eyes towards the end of my meal. We just vacated our table/chairs. I have never been treated this way..and totally embarrassed for this loser! more

Con man owner belongs in jail or worse 9/7/2011

I worked for this sleezebag for awhile and I can tell you the fish is frozen and the owner is a total piece of crap. A subhuman of the lowest order!! He has coupons which say they add a 20 percent gratuity after you take a discount off. However, the ""gratuity"" does not go to the servers but is a ""marketing fee"" as the owner put it. I said I didn't feel right doing this because sometimes the meal would cost more then if they didn't use a coupon and his exact words were ""well there's a sucker born everyday"". The owner also steals tips from the servers and is completely void of honesty. more

Do Not Go Here 9/3/2011

Listen folks I am going to make this short and simple DO NOT GO HERE the place is terrible from the service to the food to the lack of cleanliness. If for some reason you are thinking about going here look at all the other reviews out there and you will find that Jacksonville is saying the same thing. more

Horrible dining experience 7/30/2011

I wish I didn't have to give it ONE star!!! Had over an hour wait and it didn't appear to be overcrowded. Was more than patient as i had to set a good example for my 17 year old son! The manager made an error in my ticket (that I had to request a copy of) and overcharged me. It didn't appear to set well with him that I caught the error. Then when I addressed the obvious problem of having to wait for over an hour....HE had the nerve to go off on ME!!! I've never been told by an owner of any establishment ""tonight is just not your night""!! Then he accused me of abusing his staff! I've got a deck full of diners that could disprove THAT statement!! ""Jerk"" doesn't begin to describe him but I've seen it used several times now in many reviews. I'm convinced that the only positive reviews come from him and/or family members!!!!! I don't see how he stays in business. more

BEWARE!!! 5/9/2011

VERY rude owner/manager, and just ok food. Wish I had read some of the reviews before going here. Bought a gift certificate online and went for lunch yesterday, and showed the certificate before ordering. I was told it would be applied when we paid after the meal. The food was just ok, took forever to get to the table, and was overpriced, but at least we had the gift cert - or so I thought. When I went to pay, the owner said I couldn't use it on holidays (Mother's Day), although the certificate didn't say there was a limitation regarding holidays. I let him know I showed the certificate before ordering, and he simply yelled across the restuarant to his staff ""no Restaurant dot com certificates today"". I asked if he would apply it just this once since I was told beforehand I could use it, but he rudely said ""use it next time"" and pushed it back across the counter to me. I showed him where the certificate didn't say I couldn't use it on holidays, and that was one of the reasons I chose his restaurant that day, and he bluntly said ""well it should"". Just really rude about the whole thing, and I certainly won't go back. The food was just ok (very dry mahi and a small portion) and while the view is nice, there are tons of better restaurants around Jax that have nice waterfront dining, without a cocky owner/manager (just to name a few...Singleton's, Sand Dollar, Barbara Jean's, River City Brewing Co, Billy's Boathouse, Clark's Fish Camp, Outback Crab Shack). By the way, the Restaurant website refunded my money, so at least this jerk won't get me to come back to use that certificate. The high number of negative reviews on multiple websites I've found cannot be wrong -you're Crazy if you go to Crazy Fish!! more

Crazy if you go here! 4/27/2011

Always seeking a new adventure I went out of my way to go to Crazy Fish. I was so dissappointed on so many levels I hardly know where to begin. The service is non-existant, the prices are sky high, and most of all, the food is a crime against the industry. Everyone in the place is snotty and condescending, unprofessional and I get the distinct impression that they are laughing at us behind our backs. As if to say, we got another sucker in here, tw people $105.00 plus tip...OMG! AWful food, over cooked, frozen crap with a side order of nothing special. The poritons are small, a fish sandwhich costs 12.50 without frys! The owner is rude and insulting and simply does nothing. Well good luck with this one...I will never go back! more

Who's walking around with $200.00 Cash?/ 4/23/2011

As much as I don't like the way the credit card companies work that is the way our society works nowadays! I took my Folks and my Brother out to this place @ my Mom's request to watch the boats and have lunch. Well there was sure no service ! And the few people that did work there were not dressed very well at all ! The deck had NO Shade ! The furniture could have come from yard sales on the west-side. When we finally did get some food it really was bad and I was very disappointed. My mother could have prepared a much better lunch @ home for much less money !! So when we left and got to the register the sign on it said ""CASH ONLY"". Now what the heck is that all about? This is 2011!!!! When I asked for a receipt for our $102.50 ""LUNCH"" I was told I could not have one. There is something strange about that. Does this place do All it's business in cash? Don't Bother. Pack a lunch and go to the Park. more

Horriblek service and frozen not fresh food 2/23/2011

I went their last evening with my wife for a special evening. It stated by being greeted by Larry Gordon who apparently is the owner... (I wonder how much longer he will be) Larry greeted us rudely when we tried to get a seat and said that we have to order at the counter before we seat. He said it saves him money by not printing menus. I can see but he was very pushy with us ordering the most expensive things. We started with Salads, then Coconut Shrimp, finished with the Mahi Tacos for my wife and Fresh Seafood Sampler for myself. First the Salads were just ok, the lettuce was old and getting brown on the sides, the ranch was good (definitely bought) but the Balsamic was very salty almost like it was Soy Sauce based. Next was the coconut shrimp, I asked Larry if they were fresh and made in house and he said yes, so I ordered them. When we got them it was very clear they were not fresh and bought frozen from Sysco or US Foods (I am a restaurant manager and do all the purchasing). we ate them and overlooked that Larry told us different. Then came the Entrees, My wife liked the Mahi Tacos (but ended up vomiting for 3 hours the following morning, possibility of food poising, no joke) and my so call ""Fresh Seafood Sampler"" was opposite of fresh, the entire platter was deep fried greasy pile of junk, nothing was fresh. Larry said it was fresh and if I didnt like it he would get me something else. I ate a few bites and was disgusted. I brought it to his attention and ""said this is not fresh"". Larry then threw down his wallet on the table and said ""I bet you a thousand bucks its fresh"" I said deal and asked to go see the kitchen. He said I cant and called me a ""di&k head"" and asked what else I wanted. After that I couldn't believe it and started to give him attitude back, saying how dare you call me a ""paying customer"" a D head in front of a room full of customers. He then repeated it 6-10 more times until we finally decided to go somewhere else and finish dinner. After he said If I dont pay for everything he will call the cops since I ate a few bites of the entree. I did and left and will never return to that establishment until their are new owners. Please any questions regarding my experience please don't hesitate to ask. ~Joe~ more

Rude Behavior of Owner 2/19/2011

What a disaster of a restaurant. Wait was at least one hour for the food with not even half the tables occupied. Staff was friendly but not trained well. Our food was given to the wrong table, so the wait was even longer then expected. Food was bland and overcooked. While waiting to pay for our bill, we experienced the owner giving a customer a hard time who's food had not been served while all others at her table had finished eating. The owner was saying she had to pay for her food if it was in the fryer at that time. When the young lady protested and said that was unacceptable, the owner turned to us and tried to embarrass her by claiming she was drunk. She actually seemed more upset than drunk. That statement obviously made her even more upset. I will never go back to Crazy Fish after witnessing the rude attack of the owner. He really needs to take a couple of classes in customer service and restaurant management. What a disaster of a place!!!! more

Great Ownership 1/21/2011

I've been renting kayak's here since they opened and the owner and his staff have always been incredibly polite and friendly. The food is good and it's great that you can rent kayaks and canoes and then come back for lunch and cold beer! Really like the organization, though, and that's what keeps us coming back. more

Cool place 7/20/2010

Went kayaking here over the weekend then had lunch. Very good food and very modest prices! Coming back here next weekend for my sister's wedding shower. Pros: Kayaking, inexpensive, good food more

Not hard to find 7/19/2010

Crazy Fish is easy to find, just look at the map on their website, it's right off Beach. Went here on a date last weekend, and I was quite impressed. The ambiance is pretty cool with the island music and all the ""Fishy"" decorations. The deck looked nice but we sat inside because it was really hot last Friday night. We hung out and drank Long Island Iced Teas for about an hour before eating. The waitress recommended the Cobia which was on special. We got it grilled, and I don't know what the heck kind of sauce they use but it tasted oooh sooo good! Since we bought our fair share of drinks and were there for quite awhile, the waitress brought us some complimentary key lime pie after dinner. I am going to be back here again quite soon. Pros: Great location, great food more

No complaints 7/18/2010

Stopped here after a day of boating thru the intercoastal. It's a nice location for boaters, its right by the boat launch. Even though I live in FL I am not a fan of seafood believe it or not, and my bf is allergic to shellfish. Low and behold they actually had plenty of non-seafood dishes. I got the chicken pesto with fried Ocra which was really good. My bf got a giant burger, also with the 'dirty' french fries which I tried and were tasty. Meal was cheap even with some margaritas. If you go, make sure you sit on the deck...nice view of the marina, its cool watching the boats. Pros: Not just seafood, low priced, eat outside more

Don't let the prices fool you 7/16/2010

Saw their ad in the Times Union. Checked out the menu online and figured it would be just another corporate seafood restaurant with tiny portions. It was anything but. We got the seafood appetizer and the shrimp and steak both which were very generous portions especially with the sides. Screw places like Joe's Crab Shack, theres no point in overpaying for less than average seafood at an overcrowded and overrated restaurant, Crazy Fish is my new favorite seafood place! Pros: Cheap, great atmosphere Cons: none that we could find more

Didn't go here on porpoise 7/16/2010

Saw the place while parking to go to Billy's. We were curious as people were hanging out on a deck over the water and it looked like they were having a good time so we rolled on over. Instantly seated (unlike Billy's where you usually have to wait 10-20 mins) by a waitress that I wish could have my babies. She recommended the grouper on special, so all 3 of us ordered. Didn't take long for our food to come, and while we were waiting 2 porpoises swam right out in front of the dock. Someone tossed them a piece of food off their plate and they started making these squeaky noises as if they were thanking him for it, it was was so cool! Anyway, our food came shortly after, and it was superb. I never had fish cooked that way. With sweet teas and a tip the tab came out to less than 65 dollars for the 3 of us. I'll be going back...not a lot of places in Jax where you can sit on the water and eat. Pros: sweet spot, good drinks, low priced entrees Cons: I'm not single and can't hook up with the waitresses more

Fast Service 7/15/2010

We were waiting for a table at Billy's across the water when we saw people eating on the deck. After waiting 20 minutes we decided to ditch Billy's and go check the place out, mostly out of curiosity. It was a little hard to figure out how to get to but simple once you know how to get there. We were instantly seated, immediately got drinks then appetizers in 10 minutes and dinner in 15 minutes. The food was really good, comparable if not better than Billys. Hushpuppies were fantastic, why do so few restaurants serve them?! The fast service is what really wowed us, because we were so starving. Taking the kids here next weekend, excited to try out some different dishes. Pros: Fast, cheap and good eats more

Two thumbs up 7/15/2010

Decided to try this place last weekend because the ad said they had kayaking. Me and the bf took em out for a few hours, it was nice because there is a boat launch right by resturant...made it real easy to hop into them. They r nice kayaks too, the open deck kind where you just sit on top. Was some great exercise because it was a little windy. Got dinner on the dock afterwards. We got the grouper with mango chutney sauce it was on special...had a very unique taste to it. Beautiful sunset...not really many places in Jax like this. Pros: Low priced, great food, nice wait staff Cons: A little bit hard to find more

Waste of time and Money! 3/12/2010

DO NOT waste your time or money at this place (Crazy Fish). Worst food I ever had. They did not greet me at door when I came in or as I left! Did not feel welcomed at all! Menu is high priced, food is not cooked properly, tasted aweful, construction workers doing work on the facility as people were eating lunch! The owner seems to be high on something? He has no idea how to run a buisness and was very rude and arrogant. Stay away from this Crazy fish!! Pros: Waitress was sexy Cons: Over priced, small portions, food sucked, NO great views! more
