Editorial review from Citysearch 8/26/2012

Costa Brava has been my favorite Spanish restaurant for over 7 years. I recommend the filet or oxtail entree. The tapas are also great! I always get the bacon wrapped dates and patatas alioli with the house sangria. Enjoy! more

Two-Time Loser 8/5/2009

I would normally not write a negative review, but I went to Costa Brava for the first time a couple of weeks ago with a friend and it was a terrible experience after an otherwise wonderful evening. We decided to have a drink there after a show, so it was around 11pm and they didn't close until 12, but when we sat on the patio they practically yelled that we had to sit at the bar, even though there were people out on the patio! So we ordered sangria at the bar, it was disgusting and tasted more like syrup than sangria, and then we just took it to the patio after a little while because it seemed ridiculous to have to sit there in the hot bar on a summer night. A week later, I figured I'd give it another shot and go for happy hour, thinking maybe the last time it was just the end of the night and they had been tired. Again, the sangria was so bad, and it's the ONLY drink marked down for happy hour. I actually ordered a regular-priced glass of wine and dumped it in the pitcher to try to improve it. After we ate, another friend came to join us, and even though we already had our bill the waiter insisted on adding her order to our bill. Then he said if she wanted a separate check she'd have to sit at the bar! What is this obsession with making people sit at the bar?! So she said ""you know what? Nevermind."" And we left. I really tried to give the place a fair shake and both times it was a terrible experience. I'm never going back. Cons: Rude staff, awful sangria. more

We go all the time! 5/2/2009

We were surprised to read negative reviews of our favorite bar. The ""con"" I mentioned above would matter more if we had anything to complain about. Food is delicious, sangria is great (at 8$ a pitcher at Happy Hour, it's awesome). The service we have received has been pretty good. It can falter a little when the restaurant is full, but it hasn't been a big deal. We have a toddler and they have always accomdated us (and him) with a gracious attitude. The patio allows both dogs and kids, and we come in the afternoons for HH. The gambas a la plancha, sangria. calamari, fresh bread and aioli (gratis) are all great. Pros: unbeatable Happy Hour Cons: not willing to change or listen to customer concerns more

WILL NOT VISIT AGAIN 10/17/2008

On this Friday night I just could not wait to write this review. In the past, my ""crew"" of attorneys - (I know you probably won't feel sorry for us) and I would visit this restaurant bi-monthly and spend about $300.00 each visit - which is difficult to do at this restaurant. On this day, as our group was growing, we were told by the staff we could not bring chairs or tables over to our area until all our people showed up which they did within 15 minutes of our arrival. When the last of our people showed up the still EMPTY tables we originally tried to grab now had reserved signs on them and when I inquired about getting more chairs and tables the staff could not assist our request even though these tables and chairs still sat empty. I asked to talk with the manager (I was later told he was the owner) who has long black hair like a Harley rider, mustache and smells like stale cigarettes. I told him that we were not allowed to expand our group when our people were not present but when they arrived the still EMPTY tables were not available to us now because there was a reserved sign on them. (These reserved tables and chairs continued to sit EMPTY for 30 minutes after my request while the rest of our group stood around waiting for other people to leave.) The owners response to me was, ""When you have your own restaurant you can run it your way."" His place was busy (but not full) when we left so I guess he does not really care about my business but his immature, unprofessional attitude insured a dozen less patrons or about $600.00/month from his gross receipts. The wait staff taking care of our group tried to be as accommodating as possible given the short comings of the person that signed their checks. We are going to try a new Tapas place on Turquoise in PB for future Friday night happy hours that I am now told by one of my crew trumps Costa Brava. I hope he is right Pros: Everything except the owner Cons: Needs a new owner more

Terrible customer service 8/2/2007

The food used to be better as did the service. Have been there 3 times in the last 2 months and will not be back. The service is absolutely terrible. Rude, slow, innattentive, snotty. Don't bother---food is not THAT good. Also, management was completely unresponsive to emails sent regarding specific problems with one particuloar visit. I will not be back. more
