Teeny portion sizes; big prices 11/18/2006

Although the atmosphere of copper chimney is pretty nice, it took us forever to get a table once we were inside, even though there was a "five minute wait" every time we asked. Service was okay, however, the portions were so small, Copper Chimney should be embarrassed. For the price of each entree, and the fact that is not the ritziest (or best tasting) indian food around, you would expect to have at least a decent amount of food on the table. Another thing to keep in mind, the grautiuty was included on the check, but no one mentioned it to us at all... Pros: Nice decor, okay service, nice music Cons: Price, portion size more

Still thinking what is worst: Food or service? 11/13/2006

This is the worst indian restaurent to go. Specially when it comes to what you are getting for the price you pay. - Took 1 hr for them to serve the food. - Paneer Makhani (do not rememeber the exact name of the dish) was *literally* panner in tamato ketchep. - Non-veg was below average too... This is highly disappointing for people who have been to the "Copper Cimney" in India. Pros: Bad food, bad service Cons: Still thinking... more

avoid on saturday nights otherwise very very good 8/7/2006

this restaurant is packed on saturday nights.. i had visited the restaurant on a weekday and i could not belive the standard of service from an indian restaurant...there experience forced me to really leave a hefty tip . Pros: ambiance Cons: parking more

Not how Indian food should taste 5/9/2006

My husband and I gave this restaurant two tries because we were excited about a stylish Indian restaurant in the Curry Hill area. Although the ambience is very good, the food just really isn't. We found every dish we tried to be consistently underspiced and bland. We had a regular meal and the lunch buffet so we tried a good number of their dishes. I believe they are trying to appeal to the stereotypical American palate and must be failing as the restaurant is consistently empty. Pros: Ambience Cons: Food more

don't have your party here 1/16/2006

we had a party here for about 40 people--the bartender had NEVER worked behind a bar before--$35 for 3 ketel and sodas, fine if you are at marquee but not on 28th street and lex. $9 for a bottle of stella!! come on. the atmosphere is cute and the indian techno was bumping but the service was terrible and the prices insane. you're in new york, there's thousands of bartenders who know what they are doing, find them, hire them. and look at comparable prices for cocktails in the neighborhood. a $9 stella bottle is unheard of... more

The Good Reviews Vs the BAD and the UGLY 12/12/2005

I believe the excellent reviews were written by the owners of the restaurant. Dont be fooled, like I was. Its not the atmosphere, its the food. Pros: good ambience, good atmosphere, good service Cons: everything more

Best new Indian restaurant in NYC 12/4/2005

I initially checked out Copper Chimney, as it shares the name with a famous (& very good) restaurant in Bombay. It's not the same ownership, but the food is even better than its namesake! The murgh malai kabab is simply amazing, the lobster masala is just perfectly spiced, and jhinga kurkure (shrimp) is done just right. You can't tell it from its Curry Hill neighbors, but this easily ranks amongst the top Indian restaurants in NYC (I consider myself a big foodie). Their wine list could be fuller, but their unique cocktails and mocktails more than make up for it. Prices are extremely reasonable, and service is very attentive. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. I've been back a few times in a month with different guests, and no one has left disappointed thus far. Pros: Great food, good service, good portions Cons: Weak wine list more

Great for lunch! 11/20/2005

They have a prix fixe lunch for $12 (veggie) and $14 (meat). I had the 65 chicken and tikka masala. My wife had the tandoori samosa. Both were served w/nice presentation on a stainless tray w/flat bread, dipping sauces, and desert! All was delicious. The waiter was very attentive and answered all our questions about the food. Ambiance was funky and cool with spacey far eastern music in the background. Great experience. We'll definitely be back. Pros: Great food, Portion size, value Cons: Slightly slow service more

Waste of time 11/17/2005

The atmosphere is ok, but the service leaves a lot to be desired. My friend and I order 3 drinks of which we were charged sales tax and gratuity included! The total was $51 for 2 long island iced teas and 1 absolut/cranberry. Even high for NYC standards! We complained to management to no avail. Don't waste your time...They will never see another dime of my money. Cons: Overpriced, Arrogant staff more

Great food, attentive service! 9/19/2005

What a great find! Came across this restaurant on Citysearch and gave it a try. Food was delicious. The crab cakes, naan and chicken tikka were all great. The Madras Rose on the drink menu was awesome! The staff was very attentive and polite. Would definitely go back! Pros: food, service, good value more

Best new North Indian cuisine in the city 7/26/2005

Impeccable service complements outstanding taste at this copy of a Mumbai favorite. Go soon before this restaurant is "discovered" by the masses and reservations become difficult to obtain. Traditional appetizers are presented in novel ways, entrees are savory and among the best in the city, and the breads are, well, mouth-watering. Probably one of the top 5 Indian restaurants in Manhattan, but with reasonable prices to boot. Pros: ambiance, food, service Cons: specialty drinks more
