After I moved to Washington Heights, I was pleased to find Coogan's. It had a comfortable, grab a beer and burger with friends kinda vibe. The food tastes pretty good, even if the menu is super meat oriented and hardly diet friendly. So first impressions, good.\r

But Coogans bad side creeps up on you. One, I feel ill about an hour I eat there, every single time. (I know, why do I go back?) Nothing serious, just crampy, unhappy stomach filled with lead.\r

Two. The service. When I first started going, I often had one or two servers I thought were absoluty wonderful, fast, cheerful, and knowledgeable. (they both had reddish hair, like me, so we liked to joke about being the lone red-heads in wash-heights he he). Then one day they were just gone. I asked the manager and she told me that the were rac ist thiefs. Even if that was the case, I hardly felt she should be telling me that! That same night I was charged for a bunch of beers I never had (Im not even 21!) and when I complained to that same manager she just laughed and basically called me a liar. When I told her I was only 20, and that if they HAD served me beer it would have been illegal, she had some big guy come to our table and demand we pay before they called THE POLICE!!!!\r

We paid the bill (including the beer) but will never return. Its too bad as its so close to school, but I dont need to be over charged and disrespected by surly restaurant managers.
Pros: location, hours
Cons: manager threatens customers, food sits like a rock in pit of stomach
