DO NOT BRING YOUR COMPUTER HERE.\r \r The Computer Emergency Room will not do anything but steal money that they do not deserve. \r \r I brought my laptop into be fixed because the charging port wasn't working. They called me back 5 DAYS later to tell me there was nothing wrong with it and that I needed to buy a new charging adaptor. Seeing as I did this before I brought the computer in, I went to exchange the new charger at Best Buy and brought it the computer with me. The people at Best Buy tried to connect my computer 3 TIME TO 3 DIFFERENT CHARGERS AND NONE OF THEM WORKED. They went to their geek squad and they sad that the port is broken.\r \r If the Computer Emergency guys are so specialized in computers, how come they couldn't diagnose my computer properly. I think it is ridiculous that they did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to help me and still charged me! \r \r They don't know anything about computers, so do not go here. more

CER has served as my default tech help for several years now (I am a sole proprietor with no additional staff) and have consistently provided quick, efficient, professional service. Often they've gone beyond the call, giving written instructions to resolve a problem, allowing me to do a fix in the future by myself without incurring their fees. Most recently, they solved a software installation problem I was unable to resolve in 3 weeks of working with the 3rd party software's own tech staff. more

Avoid this business--unprofessional & shoddy work 7/21/2009

Avoid this business. Spend a little more and have your repair done right by someplace other than the Computer Emergency Room. In the end, the people here and the owners are not very knowledgeable and very unprofessional--my computer came out worse than it came in, and I've reported this business to the consumer protection authorities and have alerted SUNY-B and U-E people not to recommend this local repair shop to their computer science students. I may call BOCES and other schools as well. I brought my computer in for a minor repair (broken key) on a Friday afternoon. I was trying to decide whether to have them fix it or to send it to Dell to get it fixed. They promised me that they fix these computers ""all the time,"" that they'd call me with an estimate on Monday morning but that it wouldn't exceed $65 for 1 hour of labor at most, and that they'd get it back to me repaired by Tuesday (before my Wednesday business trip). Late Monday, after 3 ignored phone messages, I finally was connected to the tech working on my computer... who told me that I had a ""broken key"" (gee, really?), that he'd need to order parts and that he couldn't provide me even with a ballpark estimate. The lasting impression was one of extreme rudeness (I'll spare you the colorful language) and incompetence before I asked to speak to his manager. He put me on hold for 5 mins while he presumably told his version of the conversation to the owner, who--when he got on the line--had clearly not been apprised of the issues I was trying to resolfe. His name was Mr Jamie Hess, an unpleasant and unprofessional man who immediately began launching into a confrontational conversation with me. I asked, ""Can you simply tell me ""how much"" and ""when""? He refused. He said he'd call me back 45 minutes later while he ""looked into it."" He said he thought he'd be able to fix the computer within the hour and wouldn't charge me for spare parts, which he had on hand. He never called back. The next morning (Tuesday, the original estimated date of delivery of the fixed computer), I got a voicemail message estimating costs for repairing the computer in excess of $100, including replacement parts, and about a week's repair estimate. Worst of all, they returned my computer completely unusable, with additional parts now missing that they ""cannot immediately locate in our repair shop... we'll take a look around."" Unbelievable. Avoid this business if you care about your computer. Pros: cheap Cons: you get what you pay for--in this case, poor treatment more
