Consistent and excellent 5/4/2011

The Compound is my favorite restaurant in Santa Fe. I have been following Chef Kiffin's career for nearly two decades and his approach to the dining experience is to provide consistency without losing innovation. His sesonal menus are fresh and creative with a focus on quality. There is no fluff here. This restaurant is everything you'd expect for a fine dining establishment. more

A great discovery on Canyon Road 4/7/2011

I stumbled upon The Compound Restaurant while strolling along Canyon Road. We stopped for lunch and were so happy we did! After looking at so much artwork it was refreshing to walk into the crisp and elegant restaurant. We were greeted by a friendly staff and promptly seated. Lunch was spectacular. I don't often eat dessert but I couldn't resist the Blood Orange Trifle. We were only in town for a couple days so unfortunately we did not get to try their dinner menu. Next time! more

A Santa Fe Treasure 4/5/2011

If you are looking for a place to dine in Santa Fe, look no further than The Compound Restaurant. I was invited to a private dinner there back in February and decided to return for lunch with clients last week. My guests had never been to the The Compound and were excited to try this neighborhood restaurant.\r I requested a quiet table to conduct business. Service was attentive but not overbearing. We had an excellent lunch meeting. My guests were impressed and I was very happy with the overall experience. more

My Favorite Santa Fe Restaurant 3/26/2011

I always eat at The Compound when I am in Santa Fe. I have to try their house made soup to start and this time it did not disappoint - Tuscan bean with a perfectly seasoned broth. I was happy to see The Chicken Schnitzel was still on the menu. Some things should never change!\r more

Santa Fe Favorite 3/22/2011

I visit Santa Fe at least one a year and always dine at The Compound. I love the atmosphere and never have a meal that I do not enjoy. This time around I tried the Lamb Shank. Since the menu changes with each season, I look forward to pleasant surprises. But I always have the Liquid Chocolate Cake for dessert. Once you try The Compound, you will want to to return again and agin. more

A great dining experience 3/16/2011

If you are looking for a memorable dining experience in Santa Fe, The Compound is not to be missed. I dine at The Compound whenever I am in town and always enjoy my meal. Last I visited, I took a group of co-workers and clients to dinner. They were featuring a new winter menu and our wait staff guided us through the menu with suggestions and wine pairings. Try the salmon before the new spring menu arrives! While in the summer I prefer to sit outside in the beautiful gardens at The Compound, we were seated in the main dining room where the minimalist decor and friendly atmosphere helped to compliment a superb meal. Overall, The Compound remains a Santa Fe classic and something to experience. more

Warm Ambiance and Great Food 3/11/2011

The Compound is just up the street and while set back off of Canyon Road in a private compound which I sometimes forget about, I have recently taken to a regular visit to enjoy the beautiful grounds/ patios or - especially in winter a comfy spot at the bar. Crisp and clean and offering an outstanding Santa Fe Ambiance inside and out - the Compound has become a favorite spot any time of the year. Dining selections are concise but offer a nice variety of flavors and the experience is always fresh and well balanced. The patios are beautiful and relaxing and every detail attended to. The wine list and cocktails are excellent. Enjoy! more

Very Disappointing 6/20/2009

My friend who lives in Santa Fe described this as one of the best restaurants. It was certainly one of the most over priced. We were shocked that the arugula salads we ordered had a fried onion ring stuck on top. The waiter told us that the chef had just acquired fresh morel mushrooms from Oregon which influenced our choice of the braised veal osso bucco for the main course. Well, sadly, the morel mushrooms were coated and fried which totally destroyed the flavor and made them almost unrecognizable. The cous cous (supposedly Israeli but more like Palestinian) was bland as were the fava and peas mixed in. The osso bucco was tender and seasoned well. The waiter was friendly and did his best to compensate for a $200 meal (including wine) that was barely worth half of that amount. We doubt we would return. Pros: Interesting but expensive wine list Cons: Uncomfortable bench seats and see below more

Worst in Santa Fe 6/7/2008

My wife and I tried it for lunch. Horrendous and insulting is the only way to describe it. Her entree was a seafood salad. The salad consisted of about 4 lettuce leaves with what looked like a few seafood scraps that had fallen off someone's table. I had a vegetarian risotto. This was about a teacup's size portion. Neither dish had any detectable seasoning. The waitress did not give a hoot. At the table next to us, the lady sent her dish back to the kitchen twice, then they left without eating. The chairs felt like medieval torture instruments. The owner was there schmoozing with some friends, so they do not even have the excuse that it would have been a day that he's off. Basically, a normal person would have to order two full meals to feed himself, but if you have a hearty appetite, you would need three! What a sick joke. Pros: There were no shootings or stabbings while we were there Cons: Everything else more

Terrible Waiter and Average Food 1/5/2008

This is by far the worst restaurant we have been to in our life. There was one waiter who was terrible and very very rude. Looked like he was their main waiter. If you are not an artist or someone who looks like you are not from Santa Fe or if you dress casual, he will give you his special ""rude"" treatment. Disgusting place. The other waiters are very nice and try to make up for this moron. But it is too late. By the time your $30+ entree arrives you will be insulted by this waiter. The bill was over $100. The food very average. I have been to pricey restaurants all over the world but nowhere did I get treated like we did at the compound. I will never set foot in that place. Cons: abominable waiter, awful service, dissatisfactory food, dreadful attitude more

AWFUL! STAY AWAY! RUN! 10/24/2007

By far the worst dining experience I've had in recent memory. At best a novice attempt into the world of fine dining. I've traveled the globe and have never seen a less knowledgable wait staff (icluding in 3rd world nations). Our server had not the first clue about customer service, and attempted to convince our table that a bottle of wine that had obviously turned was ""A-OK in his book"". The bufoon of a head waiter quickly removed the bottle from our table, but kept it on the bill. Management's attempt to remedy the situation was laughable. The food was mediocre, and for the quality was over priced. You could not pay me to dine there again. Pros: None Cons: Everything more

Best restaurant in Santa Fe 9/14/2007

We have been here at least a half a dozen times and it is the best restaurant in Santa Fe (other excellent choices are Geronimo, Santa Cafe and Inn at Anazzai). The food is reasonably priced for a 5 star restaurant and it has the best dessert in Santa Fe (the liquid chocalate cake). Beautiful ambiance and outstanding service. Pros: Best Dinner in Santa Fe and one of the best in the US more
