Great for kids! 3/23/2006

My kids have been dragged to every museum in the state, and this is still one of their favorites. They have a steady stream of changing exhibits, like a Georgia Okeefe collection, and Renoir's Women, but they also have an excellent permanant collection on display. We often go from room to room just visiting our favorites. The docent tour at 2pm is nice, but the joy for us is in wandering around reading the plaques and finding new pieces. Eye Spy is the children's exhibit, which includes LOTS of hands-on exhibits: dress-up costumes, rubbings, draw your hero, perspective activities. Free on Sundays doesn't include parking or featured exhibits, but admission on every other day is very reasonable. Don't forget to check out the cafe...they do really nice soups and salads, and the kids will dig the cookies. A great educational afternoon, rain or shine! more

World Class Paintings in the midwest 12/22/2005

The Columbus Museum of Art seems to be on of Columbus. Ohio's well kept secrets. Although everyone knows it is there, it is often not visited. After a recent return to paradise, I realized this is the place to be. The Museum is a beautiful, historic building filled with many fantastic rooms of awe-inspring art. They feature works by local artists and the world-renowned. They even are featuring a show by Mattisse featuring several of his works of his female subjects. This is a show not to be missed. more

Interesting, but not cheap. 12/14/2005

My father-in-law wanted to go here for his birthday to check out the Renoir's Women exhibit. We were all looking forward to it, because it was advertised in both the Dispatch and The Other Paper that visits were no cost on Sundays. Unfortunately, that wasn't really the case --it only qualifies if you just want to look at any of the side exhibits, like the Knight's Armor, which was cool. For the Main attractions, they definitely charge full price, which I believe was $10.00 per person. While this isn't break-the-bank expensive, it's disappointing when you're under the impression it's free. more

Not Just any Museum 11/18/2005

If you haven't been here, you should go. It's not only a museum (which is fantastic), it also has neat shops with unique items. In addition, you can get a bite to eat or a cup of coffee. Well worth the trip. more

great museum 11/8/2005

The Columbus Museum of Art always gives the art lover a lot to enjoy! There are exhibits that are there year-round and then other exhibits come through as special events. The museum has a free day, I believe, but I'm not sure what day it is. The CMA also holds fantastic, but pricey, special events. more

great exhibits, and fun parties 9/2/2005

The museum is really neat to go visit there are a lot of exhibits and I think they even have a kids area. They also do a "party" on the first Thursday of the month. A lot of single people come to it and they have music and drinking. It is a great way to meet people. more

Wonderful experience 8/21/2005

I have been to the Columbus Museum of Art several times, and each time we visit, we see a wonderful special exhibit. They have an impressive number of works by well-known artists (I would have thought a small time town like Columbus would not). The admission prices are extremely reasonable, and the staff is always very helpful. more

Gertrude Stein thought it was awesome 8/19/2005

I really don't think anyone visits this museum. It's an ok museum, and they do have travelling exhibits and sometimes something alright shows up, but you never hear about it. It costs $6 to get in, they have hopper, o'keefe, renoir, monet, matisse, and picasso, plus some other people, also well-known Ohio artists, at least well known by the staff at the museum, and like I said, travelling exhibits. In the past couple years they've beefed up their photo collection, and there is the requisite gift shop. They also have sort of a central marble-heavy area which I like, that has statuary in it, they change it around sometimes. more

Columbus Museum of Art 8/17/2005

Excellent Art Museum that has exhibits from nearly every period in art history and every part of the globe ancient and present day. This is perhaps the best art museum in Ohio. The Museum has many exhibits throughout the year that keep the selection of art ever changing. Some of the most breath taking exhbits have visited columbus like the Titanic Exhibit presently. more

Columbus Museum of Art 8/13/2005

I have been very impressed with this museum. I have visited several times to see different exhibits and I always end up looking at everything. We go on Sundays because it is free and you just pay for parking. It is a well organized and very interesting museum. It makes a wonderfully quiet spot for a date if we can get a babysitter and we can get lunch at the Palette Cafe. The location makes it easily accessible to most areas of Columbus. more

Take time to visit Columbus Art Museum 8/6/2005

For a small Midwest city, Columbus has a great art museum. The exibits are interesting and some are very unique. The rooms are spacious and organized so they the displays are easy to view. The staff is friendly and helpful. We have been there several times and it's never very crowded. It's definitely worth the trip. more

Always have great exhibits 7/28/2005

I have always enjoyed this museum and although I don't get there too often, they always have neat exhibits. They also offer free admission on Sundays, which is a nice way to spend the afternoon. They also have a kids section, which is nice for children and keeps them occupied. more

What a Gem! 6/24/2005

Have you been to the art museum lately? If not, you are missing out on one of Columbus' diamonds in the rough! Our own exceptional museum has FABULOUS travelling exhibits, as well as a collection of art that is really really nice for a town of our stature. Another gem--the gift shop. Having trouble fiding the perfect gift--I guarantee you'll find something unique and cool there. Hungry? Their cafe is second to none, and the food is excellent! They also rent out for events, and it is an exceptional place for a wedding. Check out the sculpture garden! more
