Living on the River 6/8/2010

I think Mr. Web Wunderkind needs to look up from your computer screen and realize that you have chosen to live on a river! Your landlord can no more control what logs and debris float down the river and settle in front of your floating home than he could affect the weather. If you don't like your spot, request a different slip! It's as easy as that. Better yet, pick up a broom every once in a while. Pros: great place to live Cons: river debris floats by more

ORS 90.320 of the Oregon Landlord Tenant law says there is to be no garbage in public places, but there's been garbage for most of the time I've lived here, large islands of garbage the size of a truck in several places. Picture floating islands of driftwood and algae, atop with Christmas ornaments, shoe sandals, water bottles, wine bottles, styrofoam, food containers and lots lots more all waiting to greet you when you get home everyday. It's embarrassing to invite anyone to visit. Especially when floating home communities down the road don't look like this. more

I owe a debt of gratitude to the guys taking care of the docks at Columbia Crossings. TWICE this summer the Harbormaster called to say something on my boat was awry - the first time I hadn't tied a fender properly and it had floated away (he put one of his own fenders in its place until I had a chance to buy a new one), and just before the first big storm of the fall season I got a call saying I had left a window in my boat open - a potential disaster for my teak interior! Pros: Conscientious, professional employees Cons: none that I can think of more

Best place to moor your boat in Portland 10/29/2008

They have great customer service at Columbia Crossings. They have totally clean, secure and safe marinas, and I have had absolutely no problems mooring my boat there. They are family-friendly, and their leasing office is totally professional and very flexible - I was able to move my boat from Tomahawk Bay to their storage lot on Hayden Island effortlessly. I really appreciate the improvements at Tomahawk Bay - the new gates are gorgeous, and I noticed they installed a beach-volleyball court and opened up the beach on the east end of Hayden Island. COOL! Pros: Safe and secure place to moor my boat Cons: not the cheapest place around more
