We had issues with our hot water heater and water temperature into our home varying at different locations. John resolved the matter through experience and great effort. RESPONSE FROM Colletts Water Heater Cleaning & Plumbing Service: Ray had me out to service his 1995 water heater in 2004 when I cleaned it out with the Muck-Vac, added the flush device and installed 2 anode rods since he had a softener. In Mar. 2011 he had me out again since he wasn't getting hot enough water in his shower and said this has been a recurring problem every winter when ground water temp. is colder. They had the water heater turned way up to the B setting and I measured 157F temp. but his shower was still only 96F. After testing for a cold water cross connect, which they didn't have, I pulled off shower knob and rotated the plastic stop to max. hot and that solved their hot water problem. I then pulled both anodes I had installed 7 years earlier and they were both almost completely gone. I added 2 new anodes and now he's protected for another 5 years from rust. His water heater will last many years if he keeps having me back to change anode rods every 5 years. The powered anode option with the 50 year service life was offered for only $200 more, but he decided to stick with the anode rods even though the powered anode pays for itself in about 5 years and its effectiveness doesn't degrade over time as does the anode rods as they get smaller and smaller. more

My water heater was making loud popping noises wile heating that could be heard throughout my entire home. Another plumber gave it a safety check and flush a month before, but the noise never went a way - it just became louder and more frequent. The unit was also burning gas more frequently than normal. My concerns about serious water heater failure grew by the day, so we contacted Collett's Water Heater. John came out the next day to review the situation and suggested some very unique service that left me a bit skeptical at first. John clearly and thoroughly explained why the proposed work should be done, how it would be carried out, and patiently answered all of my questions. The recommended work consisted of thoroughly cleaning out the tank and then modifying the water heater to extend its life. About five pounds of sediment were vacuumed out of the tank, even after it had been flushed one month earlier! Next, a new type of water fill tube was installed to stir sediment so future flushes will be effective. The sacrificial anode was completely used-up and no longer protecting my tank from corrosion. John offered either new sacrificial anodes or a powered anode which won't degrade over time. I chose the powered anode because it will protect the tank from corrosion without having to replace sacrificial anodes every 2-3 years, making the powered anode more reliable and less expensive in the long run. John's attention to detail and quality was evident, and he even corrected original installation issues during the service. My water heater is now absolutely silent and burns noticeably less gas. Not only was my problem solved, but I now have peace of mind knowing that my water heater will serve me well for a long time to come. About four or so years ago, I had purchased a water heater from Colletts Water Heater Cleaning & Plumbing Service and he came and installed it with no problems or issues. Then, just recently, we noticed that we had no hot water. We called Colletts and he came right out and fixed it right away. He went ahead and serviced it to make sure everything else was working correctly before he left. RESPONSE FROM Colletts Water Heater Cleaning & Plumbing Service: I recently installed a garbage disposal for them but they had me back to service their 8 yr old 50 gal. water heater with a salt softener which was in desperate need of service with the anode rod completely gone. Due to the configuration of their tank, the addition of 2 anode rods was more difficult and costly so they opted to spend a little extra money for the powered anode with a 50 yr service life, and now they don't have to worry about their tank ever rusting and don't need me out every 5 years to change anode rods. I also muck vac'd out 5# of sediment from their tank and installed the latest flush device so they can keep it clean and noise free with regular flushing every 6 months. more
