Safe for your classy friends... 8/30/2006

This place is a good choice if you're in the neighborhood with your friends that don't go to dive bars. Not cheap and can be too crowded. more

will never go back 7/29/2006

I flew in to NYC to see a favorite band at Coda. The menu looked good and we planned on having dinner. They didn't have any hours or a phone # posted on the door, so I looked them up in the phone book to call about hours but no one answered the phone. Once I got there, I had to wait in line for tickets even though I was on the guest list. An employee near the door said they were serving food, but the tables had all been removed. She said we could eat at the bar, but there were only 6 chairs at the bar, and were already filled. It took a very long time just to ask the bartender for a menu. By the time I got her attention to order some food, she told me they ""decided not to open the kitchen today"". She could have told me that in the first place, rather than giving me a menu. Bar service was terrible, everything took a very long time, and my drink was awful. No one behind the bar knew how to make it and I saw them shrug at each other while pouring it. If you don't know how to make a drink, why not ask the person who ordered it? Pros: nice looking place Cons: terrible service more

Great spot, great drinks, friendly staff and door people. We had a great time at our birthday party...will definately come back more

The Worst Place Ever!! 12/18/2004

The bouncers at CODA will greet you with a Blank look on their face and no Hello's or Welcome to Coda's. Do not speak to them for they will not respond to any of your comments. After suffering from frost bites outside, a girl will MAKE you pay for admission w/without guestlist. Try to bargain maybe you'll get lucky. Your steps away from gettin your groove on until....the coat check guy (With An Attitude) says your not allowed to have your coat inside the club. Conveniently, a $4 charge is waiting for you and a tip box to milk you more. By the time your done they are probably closed because even though they say it closes at 4am they really kick EVERYONE out at 3:10am because the bouncers need their daily dose of HATER-ADE. Pros: Are You Kidding? more

AWFUL. Absolutely awful. 11/29/2004

A couple friends who were on the guestlist just walked in when I joined them. Not only would they not allow me in but forced me to pay the the $15 cover charge after standing in line for 45 minutes even though I was on the guestlist with my friends whom they let in for free and the place was empty inside. Unfair treatment and the doorman was extremely rude. They also advertised open bar from 10:30 - 11:30, but they closed at 11 making us pay. Overall, it's a crappy place and don't go. Cons: , Expensive for value, Atmosphere sucks more

Garbage 9/25/2004

I was on the guestlist for a party which required me to arrive before 11. I got there at 10:15 and go to wait in line for 50 minutes, just so that I could pay the full stupid cover. Plus, they went back on their word and charged the girls in my group as well. Once I was inside, I tried to salvage the 3 remaining minutes of the open bar and didn't even have a chance to order a drink in time. Aside from the expected crap, the bouncers inside were jerks, bumping into you for no apparent reason except maybe they're bitter they failed their GEDs again. The music was beyond loud....who can enjoy music when your ears feel like they're gonna explode. Overall horrible place, don't come here. Pros: one hot bartender Cons: , jerks at the door, deafening music more

Average 9/7/2004

We went for a party for my girlfriends birthday. You will have to wait in line and pay a cover charge. Atmosphere is pretty cool with dancing. Overall, a good night out in NYC. It is not worth using promoters to try and plan a party at this club. It really does nothing! more

Decent at best 7/8/2004

Small, boring- Decent price drinks but the $20 cover ruins it- Music was so so, my friends and I danced and had a good time with each other but we were expecting a bigger place, a more lively atomosphere- Just a dull, ordinary bar with a dance floor, crowd was nothing special. Won't go back or recommend to anyone. more

Agree 5/16/2004

I have to agree with the last post. This place is so not what you would have expected. My girlfriend had a bachelorette party and those of us that like to party, went out after to Coda. This was Sat. May8th. I even told my friend that we shouldn't go, but she was told ""THIS IS THE PLACE"". So we went. It was SICK. First off, the scene was cool. Not too ""Stuffy"" very mixed, and not harassed at the door. 2nd, drinks were no different $$ than any other lounge/club in the city. Average 7 dollars. Good crowd. Not a ""club"" crowd. More working class, good looking type mixed crowd. I liked it a lot and this place was VERY hip and trendy to add. I would go back on a sat. night. And I did hear that Sat. is a lot better than other nights. Pros: good crowd, good vibe, no hassle more

Great Sat. Night. 5/12/2004

I have to say, I am a HUGE Cityseach user and have depended on it for food, clubs and fun. I have NEVER thought reviews were so wrong in my life til I went to Coda. I actually did not look here first, but went Sat. night and had the BEST time. Hot guys, EVERYWHERE and it was all hip hip and cool dance music. I have to say, this is TOTALLY different than what is written and says about club.( maybe it got bought after some reviews) There is no Jazz or Live bands, all dancing and hip hop/house. I STRONGLY reccomend this club, at least on a saturday night. Pros: quick line, good drinks, hot people more

Smooth spot 5/9/2004

Great looking staff and great bands on THursday. Deifinitely worth a few cocktails after work if in the hood....vault downstairs is great as well!!! more

Coda Blowsa 3/25/2004

The owner of this place should fire everyone and get out of the nightclub business immediately. There is not one good thing about this classless bar. Drinks were non-alcoholic, music was for 14 year-olds, and staff had huge ego problems. Someone needs to remind the bartenders exactly that!! They are JUST bartenders. This place should meet a deomolition ball real quick. It sucks. Cons: , Horrible Service, Weak drinks more

this place sucks 2/22/2004

Went 2-21 was on the list no problem. The service and atmosphere in this place is awful. The drinks are horrible and the cost is ridiculous. Is so crowded that you cant even walk and the people are just disgusting. The coat service lost both my husbands and my coat how i don't know since we had a ticket... the dance floor is to small to even dance... the music sucked. dont waste your time and money at this club.. Cons: , bad drinks, crowded more

AWFUL. Absolutely Awful 2/8/2004

If you want to be treated as a 3 year old, this is the place to go. It was an awful experience, the staff were complacent, the bouncers were ridiculous. They made us stand outside IN THE WINTER COLD, even though we could see our names on a list for a private party inside. What in the world could be reasonable about that?! I'd sooner throw my money in the garbage or burn it than give it to an establishment like this. Cons: , overpriced, just plain bad more

Pretty place, bad drinks 8/29/2003

Event coordinator w/ guest list outside the bar had major attitude problem. She made us start a line and kept us outside waiting even though we were on the guest list. Once we got in, the place was EMPTY. Bartender was friendly enough but the overpriced drinks for mixers and a splash (if even that) of alcohol left a bad taste in our mouths. We hightailed out of there asap. Pros: Decorative place Cons: Lousy Drinks, Lousy Hostess, Empty crowd more

Keen on Coda 8/22/2003

The promoter for this place is mad cool. Great opend dance space, lots of people and if you're special you can get on stage. Otherwise, the upstairs bar is totally crowded, better to go with the downstair bartender/bar to get a drink. Lexus is classy and fun to chat with. Music is mostly hip hop and funk and the crowd can get down. Good go go dancers on stage at times with great boots. Pros: dancing/dancers, large space, energy Cons: crowded upstairs, busy bar upstairs more

Cheeseball Festival 8/9/2003

Place is a scam. Advertise one deal, keep you on long lines and then try to charge more. Place is full of cheeseball B&T (though the customers are still much cooler than the losers who run the place). Only way to get in without waiting on a long line (yes, the line is long even if the crappy club is empty) is agreeing upfront to buy an overpriced bottle. (let me tell you, if I was going to buy a bottle, it would be at a much cooler place) Pros: Nada, Zilch, Nunca Cons: Cheeseball customers, Cheeseball staff, Overpriced more

I didn't shake my groove thing ONCE! 1/13/2003

A Satuday: I thought the space was so nice and was expceting to have a good time - the night turned out to be pretty bad. I mean, when I go out I like to mingle, meet people, maybe shake my booty a little. The crowd was stuck up, the cover band was good except the music they chose to play was weird, like when I go out on a Saturday night wanna hear fun, happy music. They played a really strange bunch of music - from the Beatles to RADIOHEAD and Stone Temple Pilots (Sour Girl). I don't know, just not the most exciting music. Then, when the band was finished the music they played was all 80's which could have been fine - but it wasn't even the good 80's music & it wasn't a dj so there was huge spaces in between each song. Pros: the space is nice Cons: crowded, music more

Smokin 11/27/2002

I was there the Tuesday b4 Thanksgiving, adn it was crowded. Not overly crowded, but happening. Good looking people. Everyone was friendly, no jerks. The bartender (Harmony) is smokin!! Atmosphere is great too. I never made it down stairs though. Drinks are a little on the expensive side though. I hear they have live music too, but not that night. more
