We went to Coach Insignia in spite of what several of our friends reported--one was so unimpressed that, when the Manager offered her a free meal to make up for the lousy one she had, she TURNED THEM DOWN and she works in Ren Cen! I want to patronize good restaurants, so I booked a dinner for 2. First off, the food was much better than that served to our friends. The scallops (though there should have been 5-6 for the price) were very good but needed better carmelization. The short ribs (2 of them!) were good, too, but not as good as just up the river a few hundred yards. Service? VERY GOOD. Ambience? Great view, almost worth the price. So what was lacking? We paid a lot of money to eat with....folks wearing tank tops and flip flops. I kid you not. Golf shirts with cell phone on the hip. Makes me think there might not be enough fine diners to go around. I dress casually at times and like going to relaxed places, But when I think I'm going out for a WOW experience, I look for something far more refined. With the demise of Asian Village and GM's woes, my guess is GM is bankrolling the Matt Prentice Org and won't be able to subsidize much longer.
Pros: The view
Cons: Not a high value experience
