Claire's Pantry

We live in this area and have eaten at Claire's several times over the years. The food is wholesome and the prices are fair but the service is quite horrible this past year. My wife and I usually give a restaurent two chances to get it right before we stop going there and tell our friends not to eat there either. Once we were seated and waited 15 minutes, I looked at my watch, at which time we stood up and left. Although we were given a menu by the hostess no one came to our table or even gave us a glass of water. And when we did get up and walk out the hostess smiled, was standing next to our table the entire time, and said "come again". The second time was a Sunday at 1:15 pm. We entered and was told it would be a few minutes. There were 4 booths open and two couples seatting at other booths eating. We were the only ones waiting to be seated. After 10 minutes a couple with a child enter and were promptly seated. When I complained to the hostess I was told the booths were for 3 or more people and since we were two we'd have to wait. I complained to the manager and the hostess began to argue with me trying to justify why we had to wait when once the manager told her to go ahead and seat us. At that time we told the manager we'd never be back and left. A simple, "let me seat you and lunch is on me" would have kept my business. Now we'll never eat there again, the better business bureau has been contacted AND our rather large group of friends and family have committed to us they too have had similar circumstances and said they would never eat there again. All totaled we figure maybe 30 meals a week has been lost. Maybe service is better now. :-) more

We try to go every weekend if we can. Their waffles are really perfect. Simple, but buttery and delicious. Friendly staff. The outside looks a little odd, but inside is clean and pleasant. Nice local staff. more

I have gone there off and on for years and love it! Not gourmet nor organic, nor fancy, just good old-fashioned cooking. Love the breakfasts and my favorite sandwich, the Monte Cristo! The coffee could be a little stronger, but I go there for my favorites, not the coffee. Worth a try if you aren't into being 'enlightened'. Decent service, it is clean and they don't rush you. Sometimes a little too laid back if you are in a hurry. Only once over the years have I been unhappy with the service and the long wait for our food. That is a pretty good record. more

They've remodeled the interior not to look like your grandma's breakfast, but most of the food was pretty bland. more

I have been coming to this restaurant for years and the breakfasts have been great. Nice start to a weekend and I seem to get good service. Dinners are not the best but for a diner you cannot expect that much anyways. If you are in Edmonds it is worth checking out. more
