Just a waste 6/16/2011

Let me start off with I went to this place reading these past reviews. Not realizing that most are about a year old. I dont know if things have changed since those ppl went there but today me and my brother went. Both been to major universities in texas we are always down to try new places ""hole in the wall"" and dives. But today's lunch at city eats was horrible and a waste of time, money, and taste. I ordered the ""special"" Italian hot dog and onion rings. The hot dog was decent at best and the only reason it received one star. The hot dog came with minuscule amounts of onions and peppers. The onion rings I ordered were probably 1 part onion and 100 parts batter and grease. I'm no health nut but I only ate 2 onion rings before the grease was too much to bear. I threw half away. Like I said barely any onion I don't know about others but the best onion rings I've ever had are thick cut slices of onion. Not just a bunch of batter and oil. For $4.59 onion rings I expect a whole different level of quality than what I got. My brother ordered the build your own hot dog and said it was ok and probably would never come back. Also the cheese fries he ordered were just sprayed with way too little cheez wiz like sauce. Overall we spent 16 dollars on a meal we both later said would never eat again. I would never recommend this establishment to anyone unless they like nasty WAY over priced food. Your time money and taste buds will be better served by going to a grocery store and firing up the grill and enjoying a beer. Kingwood always has perfect BBQ weather 90% of the year... more

Best Food Ever!!! 5/30/2011

I remember when I first found this place, I just moved to Texas from Florida and was on the lookout for a good hole in the wall resturant, and sure enough I found it! I have been going there for a year now, the food is amazing at a price you can't beat. If I'm alone the owner will even sit down and keep me company, the staff is friendly and wonderful. I have yet had a bad experience with the resturant, it's a wonderful place and I feel right back at home. more

Finally, a unique Kingwood institution 10/17/2010

Walking up to the place it is small and unassuming but as the old saying goes you can't judge a book by its cover. Immediately when you walk in you are greeted by the owner whom I think never has a day off and an excellent staff. This is a great place to go and relax while eating some great food. The choices on the menu are pretty much endless with a strong focus on the foods that make the northeastern part of the country famous. Great hot dogs, Taylor Pork Roll, New Jersey Sloppy Joe's, and so much more. I love great hot dogs and they by far have the best. I don't want to forget the large selection of great hamburgers that start off with a full 1/2 pound patty. Oh and don't forget to add-on some of their delicious fries with Old Bay . They are just delectable. The beer battered onion rings are also unbeatable. For dessert you can grab an Italian Ice, ice cream, or a snow cone. I just can't say enough about this unique institution. Kingwood has finally attracted some unique eateries and this is by far the crem de la crem. more

Classic pushcart taste 5/24/2010

I can't tell you how much I love a good hot dog. I've made hundreds (if not thousands) of hot dogs at home over the years. But to my dismay, there was never a place where I could just go and get one. Well, until City Eats opened up, that is.\r \r What's great about this place is that their hotdogs (100% beef Sabrett franks) are imported from New Jersey. Everything about the hotdog takes me back to the day I had my first pushcart hotdog up in New York about seven years ago.\r \r The menu is as creative as the staff is friendly. There's such a wide variety of hotdogs to choose from, with influences ranging far and wide, from Texas to Philadelphia to Jamaica. My personal favorite is the Philly Dog, which is a hotdog slathered in Philly cheese sauce and topped with sauteed onions.\r \r A hotdog isn't the only thing that City Eats does well. Their chicken sandwiches and cheeseburgers are great, and they also make a mean cheesesteak. You can get a side of gravy fries with your meal, or get some quality Italian Ice for dessert.\r \r In Kingwood, there's hardly any hotdog places. In fact, I don't think I've seen any other place that has hotdogs in Kingwood. So I'm glad that the one place we do have is so good. Pros: Authentic ingredients, creative menu, friendly staff Cons: Suburban people may not appreciate urban authenticity more

The BEST HOT DOG FOR X NEW YORKERS 4/13/2010

This is the real macoy when it comes to getting the NY pushcart style hot dog. I buy the 5 lb package. They also have Sabrett onions in sauce and mustard. The Burger is angus beef and is excellent. The hosts ( from New Jersey ) are very friendly. Great Place ! Highly recommended ! Pros: Carries Sabrett NY Pushcart style dogs with onions in sauce more

Just a bland hot dog 3/23/2010

I am not sure what the fuss is. I have eaten here twice now and the food is never anything but mediocre. Small overpriced hot dogs that lack flavor. I could buy something better at HEB and make it myself. The enormous amount of toppings they put on the hot dogs tries to add flavor, but still fails in the end. I do not recommend this place. Stay home and grill out instead. Cons: Food more

Amazing food, amazing staff, amazing place. 1/6/2010

This small 'To-go' place is great, it has small town feel about everything. Everything you order taste amazing, the quality of the food is nothing but the best. The staff is always nice, and is always willing to compromise. Service is always good even when things are slammed. Prices are good in correlation to quality of the ingredients which is always the best. No matter how many times I think about it, I can't say that there is anything bad about the place, except for maybe I spend too much money at the place because it’s so good. Pros: Everything is amazing more

Great food in Kingwood 1/2/2010

I'm a frequent visitor to city eats, and have had a couple of different items off of the menu ranging from a hot dog to a sub sandwich. All of which have been very good and incredibly surprising seeing as the prices are very low for such high quality of food. Now today I had the ""black and blue"" burger which is a blackened hamburger with blue cheese on it, and I added bacon. It was hands down the best burger I've had in a very, very long time. The burger was cooked perfectly, the plentiful amount of bacon was crispy, and there was just enough melted blue cheese to satisfy my almost never-ending want for it. The fries that came with the burger were also good. They were hot, crispy, and almost perfectly salted. They went great with the chipotle mayonnaise. I have nothing but good experiences with City Eats. My only gripe is that I do not eat free! Pros: Best hot dogs, burgers, and sub sandwiches in Kingwood Cons: I don't eat free more

New York hot dogs in TX 9/18/2009

Recently, my daughter and I began a quest to find a good hot dog in Houston. Until a couple of years ago, we didn't really know what a good dog was. Then we ate at Gray's Papaya in New York and our eyes were opened. Now, we're hot dog snobs, and most dogs disappoint us. But, our quest led us to City Eats in Kingwood, where the dogs are imported from NY. We learned that they don't have a fixed location on North Park drive, although they do frequently have a hot dog cart there. But, the small shop itself can be found at 4003 Rustic Woods Drive, which is south of North Park drive on Lake Houston Parkway. To truly sample their hot dogs, we got 'em plain and added only mustard or ketchup to suit. They easily serve the best dog in Houston by miles and miles. Juicy dogs that pop when you bite 'em, like they are supposed to. And, we didn't even try the chili-cheese fries or other delights on the menu. At the owner's recommendation, we had Italian ices for dessert. I can only describe them by saying that we will never again visit without having an Italian ice for dessert. It's not fancy. It's not expensive. But, boy is it good. I hope they expand to a strip mall near me, but until they do we will keep making the journey. Go, eat, enjoy. Pros: Best Hot Dog Cons: they're only in Kingwood more
