I rarely feel fanatical about something, but Christopher's is worthy. The food, the service, the atmosphere. I would go there every night. The food is made of real, fresh...

Christopher's Restaurant 5/7/2006

Christopher;s Restaurant has been a traditional spot for healthy wholesome restaurant eating for many long seasons. The intellectuals, the artists, musicians, teaches, poets, grave diggers, scientists and feisty venture capitalists all find a voice and a healthy chilled mug at Christopher's The dart boards are more than a decoration, the second floor is for more than impressions. Christopher keep shtier kitchen ope late, so don't wast the opportunity for a little local expression. more

Better Thank it Looks from Outsides 4/21/2006

I'd been working out in Porter Square for many years before someone suggested going to Christopher's. From the outside it looks like it's going to be a bit of a dive and that it's really just a place for drinks and not for food. The reality is the total opposite of that. The interior is actually quite pleasant, including the lovely fireplace in winter. The service is good, and the food is really very good. They have a lot of variety -- somethings you'd expect in this type of place and some more unusual things. I've never been for Sunday brunch, but I know they have it, and I can't think of any other place in the neighborhood that does. Of course parking can be a challenge, but it's very convenient to the Porter Square T station. more

Christopher's has made me a Fanatic 4/6/2006

I rarely feel fanatical about something, but Christopher's is worthy. The food, the service, the atmosphere. I would go there every night. The food is made of real, fresh ingredients...it's never greasy, overly salty or tasteless. You have the sense that you are eating real food that has been masterfully prepared. Especially their signature veggie burger...oh, don't get me started on that! Lots of great beers on tap too! Servers are always kind, competent, and dutiful. You get the sense that they are very intelligent interesting people that you'd like to sit down and have a long conversation with. The atmosphere is what take Christopher's to the next level. It feels like cozy, neighborhood bar/restaurant. Everyone there is very chill--there is no scene, just pure laid-back, relaxed enjoyment. To top it all off, they keep a fire place burning through the winter. more

Great vegetarian options here... 3/22/2006

I'm not a veggie - but I have many friends who are, and this is their top pick of where to go for a great veggie burger (not the frozen variety) and a great beer or wine selection. The prices aren't dirt cheap, but certainly don't break the bank. I feel like they are sometimes understaffed, especially during the week? But I do crave their Sunday brunch quite often. YUM. And during the winter they have a cozy fireplace - I often wait a little longer so that I can get a table near the fire! more

Tasty Food, Great Beers, Mediocre Service 3/18/2006

If you're in a crowd of meat eaters and one vegetarian, Christopher's is the place to go. Practically everything is good, from burgers to ravioli to enchiladas, and there are plenty of hearty vegetarian entrees. The salads are beautiful and come with a weirdly thick balsamic dressing. The beer list is terrific and you can get a good glass of wine too, as well as mixed drinks. The staff can be slow though and not be so great at follow through - you can wait a very long time to find your server for the check or another glass of water, so only four stars. Stay away from the more exotic entrees like Pad Thai - the strength here is Americanized everything, and attemps at Asian flop badly. Expect a wait at dinner hour and brunch, but this place serves late, which is great if it's 11pm and you still need dinner. more

How do I explain this... 2/12/2006

The food? Out of this world. I mean, it is so good, it almost defies description. You can come here with a pack of the world's most picky eaters and everyone will be able to find something to eat (for breakfast, the stuffed french toast is a MUST). no tto mention that they are fond of using organic ingredients, which I think is great. For you that love your ale, you will go numb over their beer list, which to say it's dictionary-like is putting it mildly. The bad of this place (and why I gave it onyl 3 stars) is the staff. I understand that it's in Porter Square. But you still need to pay attention to and treat your customers better than this. Really. I never thought you could be rude to someone while ignoring them, but if you come here, you'll see that it is possible, indeed. more
