You're better off going elsewhere 10/13/2006

Since I'm stuck with an HMO, I chose Dr. Choi simply because his office is a block away from mine. When I called the office to make my first appointment, my medical coverage had just started, so I hadn't received the insurance card in the mail yet. When I explained to the receptionist that I only had the print out of my insurance information that I downloaded from the insurance company's website, she refused to make an appointment for me. She told me that unless I had the actual card in hand, it would be a hassle for her to confirm with my insurance that I had appropriate coverage. After multiple calls with my insurance, my human resources department, and the doctor's office, I was able to get an appointment. Note: The only reason I stuck to this office was because it was the only office that is close enough to my work. It is difficult for me to get time off for anything. First appointment went all right, but I had to schedule a follow up appointment. When I showed up for my follow up, the receptionist told me she didn't have me down for an appointment and told me it would be a short wait. Short meaning an hour, and the doctor spent 5 minutes with me and barely answered my questions. I just had another appointment today, about 3 months since my last one, because my boyfriend ended up getting scabies, and his doctor said I should be treated for it too. I showed Dr. Choi the rash that appeared on my back and he said he couldn't diagnose it and refused to prescribe the cream that I needed to treat the scabies. Normally I would respect that decision, but then he told me that I should use my boyfriend's medication instead of him having to write one for me. What is the point of me paying him to be my doctor is he is only going to tell me to use someone else's medication? Can he even do that? I don't think that's ethical! more
