Editorial review from Citysearch 5/8/2013

My girlfriend bought a two five pound bags of chocolate on two separate occasions from this store. Her chocolate molds came out all chalky white and crumbly. The first time we called to complain the store owner told us that we must of burned the chocolate or gotten the plastic molds wet. We considered this a possibility, so she tried again with the same results. She decided to get her chocolates elsewhere for the last few months. All of her molds made from other stores products came out wonderful. \r \r She needed a purple chocolate for a certain project and couldn't find it anywhere but the Chocolate Duck. Reluctantly, she caved in and bought another bag even though we noticed the product to have a little bit of the chalky white crud on it (the owner insisted that it was just the chocolate scratching each other in the bag). The same result as before occurred. When She called to complain he rudely told her that she obviously burned it and conveniently added that his store has a no return policy. A few days later we noticed half of the chocolate discs had a different hue on them then the other half. It seems pretty obvious to me that he had incorporated his smaller pound bags together without considering the expiration dates. \r \r The Chocolate Duck is highly expensive, but I would overlook that if a certain kind of quality was achieved, but that is not the case here. Whether it be from incompetence or a desire to get rid of old, unappetizing products, this shows a massive lack in consideration for their customers. I'd highly recommend to stay away from this lackluster and unprofessional business. more

Disappointed 12/10/2011

I went to the Chocolate Duck, since I am 30 weeks pregnant & have a toddler and my usual chocolate supply store is much further away. I was also under the impression that it has a good rep. From the moment I walked in, I was disappointed. I don't know if the entire staff was having a bad day, but two staff members did not acknowledge me when I said hello (I got stares, not friendly ones). The person who rang me up barely acknowledged me and was in a hurry to get me out of the way. The selection (especially if you are a pro) is impressive. However, I was not impressed with the quality of the chocolate I bought - it tastes old. I wish I had been able to sample it before I bought a 5lb bag. I would consider going back to give this place another chance - I hope that next time, staff are more friendly/helpful. more

Bad Chocolate 12/5/2011

Came in, after emailing the store to ask about high quality melting chocolate. Was told to purchase Clasen's. I specifically asked if the Clasen's would produce a waxy, gritty tasting chocolate and was told it would not. Purchased a 5lb bag of Clasen's Milk Chocolate (which I would not have purchased if they had given me a small sample piece to try) but was instead told they did not ""have any"" for sampling. Purchased the bag, brought it home, and melted some and placed in mold. Popped out of mold, and sampled it, and much to my disappointed, it was not only gritty, waxy, and only tasted like ""chocolate flavor"", it was WORSE than your typical store bought chocolate bar that leaves a gritty, terrible aftertaste. NOT what I was looking for, and had asked about several times. So very, very disappointed. I specifically asked questions about the type of chocolate I should use to produce the result I was looking for, and was met with answers that I was looking for, but not anywhere close to the result I was looking for. NO returns on chocolate, so I am STUCK with a 5lb bag of junky chocolate that I'd sooner throw away than serve to people. Won't be back, ever. Will look for a good quality chocolate and tell people to stay away from this place. more
