Best

Before coming here, I had no idea that such an array of ice cream flavors even existed! China town isn't exactly famous for its ice cream, but after being intensely nagged bout it...

Best Ice Cream 11/8/2006

First of all, Do NOT get this Chinatown Ice Cream Factory confused from the one in Flushing. They remind you time and time again that this place is the original and the one in Flushing is an imitation. Come HERE this place is SUPERB. When you come here test your pallette and try their exotic flavors. My favorites are peanut butter and jelly, almond cookie, and black sesame, all definetly worth a taste test. Their service is good, but be prepared to wait on a long line after dinner time on the weekend, the place is small and people flood in. Pros: Very Wide Assortment of Flavors Cons: Some flavors can run out on the busy weekends more

It's ok 8/31/2006

Tried it...the flavors, while inventive, we lacking in richness. What I mean is the Great Tea Ice Cream was great but it seemed it was more milky than green teaish. I hardly tasted the green tea flavor.\r The price of $3 for a scoop hardly makes it a bargin and isn't really a place for people looking for bargins.\r I tried their new Flushing location on Main Street (59-16). Pros: Distinct Flavors, nice place to sit and relax Cons: EXPENSIVE ($3 PER SCOOP), Small, green tea flavor lacking tate more

Avoid the cake order!!! 8/6/2006

Cake order is not that great there!! The guy told me over the phone that my cake will feed 16 people and comes out that the cake only feed max. 10, and I have to cut thin slices. The layer of the cake is so thin, so we don't notice is three layer, can't even taste the flavor. They say 9"" cake is actually 6""x6"". Never again!!! more

Best selection -- AMAZING flavors AND ALL SOOOOOOOO GRRREAT TASTING!! Better deal is to buy the 2.5 gallon container 8/6/2006

Philip (one of owners) is soooo amazingly gracious and takes the time to ask how one is -- even when the store is jammed with people. He does all this without missing a beat in filling orders!\r \r I usually buy a 2.5 gallon container of Lychee sorbet or Mango Papaya sorbet -- which is sooo refreshing in these hot summer days (and less calories too).\r \r So its TWO reasons why Chinatown Ice Cream Factory is the best: flavors AND wonderful people Pros: DEFINITELY the BEST ice cream AND WONDERFUL people more

best ice cream ever!!! 7/20/2006

hands down the best ice cream ive ever had! at the risk of sounding like a tourist it was well worth the six dollar toll from jersey! the service was excellent. even on a busy night the staff was polite and helpful in choosing a flavor. chinatown ice cream factory made my day!!! im def going back!! deee-lish!! more

Disappointing green tea ice cream 7/16/2006

If, just like me, you can't get enough of the traditional japanese green tea ice cream, DON'T go to this much raved about Chinatown spot to get it. Despite the reviews from other customers praising it's green tea ice-cream, the experience is quite disappointing. It doesn't taste like the ice cream you normally get in any Japanese restaurant. It is not even that green. It's just a regular vanilla ice cream without vanilla and slight-green in colour. It has no flavour, it's too sweet and with nauseously milky taste. My partner had a banana flavoured ice-cream that was just like mine, but yellow in colour with artificial banana smell to it. It wasn't worth a walk, it wasn't worth nearly $10 for two ice-creams, it is not worth 9.9 citysearch rating either. Cons: Overrated and overhyped more

Ice Cream Haven! 6/18/2006

For anyone who loves ice cream as much as I do, you must try this place. It is nearly undescribeable. They have a variety of flavors. Try the green tea and coconut..it's like an exploision in your mouth =) more

I tried it yesterday....yum!! 5/7/2006

After seeing it was voted ""best of"" I'm always skeptical that someone close to the owner put in a ton of good comments. But this was NOT the case. The ice cream was absolutely awesome. I had the Lychee and Green tea ice cream which were very creamy. I'm definitely going back!!! Pros: Unique flavors, Natural ingredients Cons: No seating/stand area more

Best Ice Cream 4/18/2006

Love it! My favorite is cherry pistachio. Whenever I visit I head downtown for some of their ice cream. Best thing on earth! more

Heaven in a cone 4/17/2006

I love chocolate ice cream but when I come to the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory I'm not even tempted. I am hooked on the ginger - sweet, savory, refreshing, creamy. My friend is addicted to the red bean. Whoever wrote that the lychee is like eating the fruit from a grove in Calcutta hit the nail on the head. The servers will help you make up your mind and give you a taste if you are overwhelmed. I make the trip there from miles away just to get a cone. No better way to visit Chinatown. Pros: Exotic flavors, Creamy, A great scoop Cons: What parking? more

Worth every lick 4/12/2006

I used to come for the mango and banana flavors. But since they introduced sesame, I've been hooked on it without looking back. Take a quart home b/c you will crave for more in the following days. Pros: variety exotic flavs more

i screamed when i tasted this ice cream! 3/22/2006

oh so good! [and that's a man writing them words like a little girl!] i had the lychee: more lychee than the fresh fruit from a grove in calcutta. i tasted my bud's chocolate: delicious. i brought home a pint of mango for my wife and she loved it. think of it like this, if you have to consume such fattening food, shouldn't you die loving every melting, gooey drop? oh! it's worth it! never mind the decor. go to Tao for decor! Pros: natural, delicious, refreshing Cons: fattening, fattening, fattening more

Great walk to get ice cream 3/15/2006

I am in love with Green Tea ice cream which brought me to the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory. The owner was a great help after he had to tell me he ran out of the ice cream I walked 3 miles for. But the lychee was excellent- recommend. A great place with yummy ice cream and a great walk to get there. Pros: Service, Flavors, Quality more

Love this place 11/30/2005

I love the ginger ice cream. It is absolutely my favorite. I am currently pregnant, and I have routinely been sending my husband out to buy it in quarts to bring home. The service is great and you can really taste the love they put into making their ice cream. I'm sure that my baby will also become a dedicated follower. Pros: service, taste, great Cons: no mail order more

Very Good and Unique Ice Cream!! 11/20/2005

I had the Green Tea and the Lychee flavor ice cream. Very good I might make a special trip to Chinatown for this ice Cream. Pros: Ice Cream, Flavors, Price more

Savour every bite!!! UMM UMM 11/16/2005

The ice cream at this joint is to die for. This place definitely has the best ice cream I have ever tasted and no wonder they won the Citysearch award. My favs are the blueberry sorbet and the black sesame. I learned from my trip there that Chinese are credited for being the innovators of ice cream...no wonder this place is so damn good! Pros: excellent quality, value, service Cons: None, None, None more

Good But Not the Best in NYC 8/27/2005

Nice selection of ""exotic"" as well as more more routine flavors. Staff extremely helpful and friendly, even when the place is mobbed with customers. Go early before they run out of the flavor you have your heart set on. more

Great Date Place 8/15/2005

The ice cream here is to die for. My favorite is the ube and the black sesame. My boyfriend and I always hit up this joint after dinner. The people there are so nice and they recognize us because we are regulars. They already know our order the moment we step through the door. I bought my boyfriend a really cute heart cake for our anniversary and he loved it!!! I even got to pick my own flavors. Definitely go here!! The best ice cream award to these guys are well deserved! Pros: Sesame!!!, Ube!!!, LOVE THEM! Cons: none, none, none more
