Chinaberry Hill - Pure magic 3/5/2006

I found this place litereally by accident. I was lost, and it actually was a dark and rainy night. I was on my way to somewhere else and took a wrong turn....and, like a fantasy movie, stumbled into the Past. Chinaberry Hill is the most amazing, magical place, a true, 1889 Victorian mansion tucked into a forgotten corner near downtown Tacoma. It is surrounded by an enveloping garden, a high wall, and tall sheltering trees. Once you climb the steep staircase, you find yourself in another world. The heavy red drapes in the parlor, the incredible floors, the sumptuous furnishings, the amazing lighting that manages to look period even though it's electrical. This gracious, incredible mansion is now a bed-and-breakfast, and you can stay there for about the same price as you could in a modern, characterless hotel. At the very least, go and check this place out.... it is an incredible experience just to see it for a few moments. more
