Although Chickadee Hills Homestead has been raising pork since 2014, the farmers continue to extend their reach to conscious consumers who are seeking locally-sourced food that is raised ethically and in harmony with nature. Among Chickadee Hills’ customers are whole hog and farm-to-fork chefs and home cooks who are concerned with the nutrition of their food and eating local. The farm raises heritage breed Mangalitsa pigs, which is a red meat lard breed of hog from Hungary known as the “Kobe beef of pork
Hogs are rotated through 15 paddocks, 8 of which are under mature oaks where the hogs feast on the fall acorn drop and tons of apples and pumpkins. Classes, workshops, tours and unique dining events are also offered at the farm.
All Homestead activities have the goal of joining healthy farm practices with building community and supporting the local economy.
