Chick's Oyster Bar

Terrible. A long-time customer for decades and this place continues to get worse and worse. Last weekend was the final straw as a waitress wiped her shoe with a wash cloth, then proceeded to clean a table with the same cloth! Food is always mediocre at best and aside from watching the sunset over the river - the place has nothing going for it. NOTHING. The college-aged servers and hostess staff are ill-equipped with social skills and most should NOT be working in customer service. Rude and inept. It is amazing that outsiders think this place is the local's favorite - maybe in the 1990s, but NO MORE. It stinks. more

I was visiting VB and my friends took me to Chick's. I loved everything about the place. Everyone's entrees were just as ordered and they gave us so much food! The crab cakes were absolutely perfectly done and not full of breading. I lived in MD for a few years and Chick's beat the MD fare at 1/2 the price. There must have been 3/4 pound of white succulent crab meat in them and I'm talking about big chunks and not the shredded stuff. The fish was perfect - not overdone at all. Our waitress was as attentive as could be and even brought us a small sampler plate when I asked about a few of the entrees - no charge. The beer selection is great. We had the best time. I don't know what the previous 2 sourpussies are complaining about. Some people are impossible to please I guess. Chick's is the BEST. Don't visit Virginia Beach without stopping by Chick's. What a Blast! more

I used to be the biggest fan of chicks oyster bar until i went there over the holiday season. Ive known the owners for quite some time and they introduced me to a lot of the staff. When i recently dined there i went into the kitchen and saw a RODENT! Yes, a RODENT! They told me they were trying to get rid of it and i kind of went on my way with hesitation to even eat there. It gets worse...my server who I cant remember her name, but had long blond hair, I think it was Ali, she was extremely rude to me and my family. First, she comes to the table asks for our drinks and comes back and slams them on the table (even knocking one over onto my lap AND didnt even apoligize) she pointed to the papertowels and excused herself. I let it go thinking she might of had a bad night. She comes back to the table after we have ordered our food and my salad was completely DISGUSTING. It tasted as if it was 3 weeks old. My husband ordered steamed crab legs and a crab cake (his favorite at Chicks) he told me that they were cold and the crab cake wasnt even cooked all the way. By this time I had had enough. After waiting for our server to come back to our table (she was talking with the other waitresses, obviously too busy) she tossed us the check and left. This place is an absolute terror with disgusting rodents and food. The kitchen staff looks as if they havent showered in 3 years and management is a joke. This hole in the wall should be removed from the planet! more

I have been here many times over the years and have seen a steady decline in the quality. In my most recent visit, we took my mother for a birthday dinner. Boy did we pick the wrong day. The place was full of loud drunken rowdies watching football. We couldn't hear each other talking at the table. Then there was the server. Not his fault but he was very young and inexperienced. We had to constantly flag him down for everything. Only once did he come and ask us if we needed anything. And now the worst part: The food. Every single entree we ordered was cold. When we sent some of it back, it came back to us steaming like it just came out of the microwave. In addition to being cold, it was awful. The fish was over breaded and dry. The shrimp was overcooked and wouldn't peel. The bowl of oyster stew had 3 oysters in it. Even the mixed drinks were bad. I could go on but you get the point. All this plus higher prices has sealed the deal for me. We won't be coming back. Pros: free valet parking Cons: food, service, atmosphere, value more
