AWFUL FOOD-RUDE SERVICE 11/3/2011

The food was awful and the service was even worse. We ordered fried chicken which was so heavy with grease the waitress offered to get the owner. When the owner never came I went to pay the bill and asked why she never came. The girl stated that the owner didnt want to, that chicken is supposed to be that way. I was agast so I insisted to speak with the owner then. She came over- I told her of my concern. She arrogantly said "" HOW ABOUT i TAKE THE BILL AND YOU NEVER COME BACK"" I could not believe someone had the nerve to treat paying customers in such a manner. My husband went home sick and could not eat the remaining chicken. He actually came down with food poisening. The doctor at the ER said that often restraunts have old fried chicken that they drop in the fryer and call it fresh--which results in super greasy chicken and food poisening in this case. This was arrogance at its greatest in that the owner seemed to feel they dont need new clientel or to even keep old ones. Never go there unless you want to watch the staff watch football and fight in the kitchen..ya --they did that too!! November 1, 2011 THIS IS THEIR ADD AND IT IS A LIE The Chic A Dee Cafe is the place to go to in Topeka for a home-cooked meal that will please your palate and satisfy your hunger. Owners Ken and Linda McDonald apply their more than twenty years in food service to provide the tastiest chicken fried steaks, whole catfish, fried chicken, grilled or breaded pork chops, a different soup each day, homemade pies, and a variety of other menu items- all at reasonable prices and served by a courteous and efficient staff.\r Disliked: \r AFTER MY EXPERIENCE-WHICH WAS A NEGITIVE ONE, AT THE CHICK A DEE CAFE, I HAVE PONDERED THE QUESTION, WHY ARE PEOPLE SO RUDE WHEN THEY ARE AT FAULT AND THEIR PRODUCT-FOOD - IS SO SUBSTANDARD. I CAME UP WITH THE ANSWER. THESE PEOPLE WERE PERHAPS NOT LIKING THAT A BI RACIAL COUPLE CAME IN AND CHALLENGED THEIR LACK OF EXPERTISE IN THE COOKING ARENA.- WHILE WE WERE CURTIOUS, THEY WERE NOT. THEY DIDNT TRY TO KEEP OUR BUISNESS BUT TOLD US NEVER TO COME BACK --EVEN THOUGH THEIR FOOD WAS TAINTED. MOST RESTRAUNTS , WHEN YOU POLITELY TELL THEM OF YOUR CONCERN, OFFER TO HAVE YOU COME BACK AND APOLOGISE. nOT THESE FOLKS. WHILE WE ATE DINNER WE WATCHED THEM WATCH THE KU GAME WHILE CUSTOMERS WERE WAITING. WE SAW EMPLOYEES FIGHTING WITH EACH OTHER IN THE KITCHEN AND THEY FORGET TO BRING OTHER PATRONS THEIR FOOD. SO PERHAPS THEY ARE NOT BIGOTS AFTER ALL, PERHAPS THEY ARE A BUNCH OF BACK HILLS, NO CLASS ,FOLKS THAT DONT KNOW HOW TO COOK OR TREAT PEOPLE. DONT WORRY LINDA MCDONALD OWNER --WE WILL NOT COME BACK AND WE WILL TELL ALL WE KNOW OF YOUR BEHAVIOR LKE SOMEONE RAISED IN A BARN--OH -EVEN MY HORSES BEHAVE BETTER THAN YOU.\r \r more

HOME COMFORT at CHIC-A-DEES 12/18/2010

For a home cooked meal at down low prices this is the place. The atmosphere reminds you of grandmas house. The people could be your best friends. Laugher and joy surround this establishment. The wait for food is short and sweet. Your cup is aways full and the accompanies are always pleasant. Strong supporters of Kansas local and state; whether your revere is towards high school, college, or professional athletics conversations can be started. This place never leaves you wanting. Unless your talking about the next days QUICK, HOME-COOKED, LOVABLE, and truly HAPPY meal. \r \r I love good resturuants, this is world class for HOME COMFORT. more

Don't let the neighborhood scare you 11/6/2008

Good home cooking at a decent price is what you find here. Not the best of neighborhoods. You can only use cash here, no plastic allowed. Watch the hours, we went on a Sunday for breakfast and they were closing at 1:00 PM. Prices and service were both friendly. more

Home Cooking in a Casual Atmosphere 11/2/2005

Everytime I take my father out to dinner, he wants to eat at the Chick-A-Dee Cafe. It's a small, clean place with friendly waitresses and daily specials. They also have lunch specials and usually 8 different kind of homemade pies. If you leave the Chick-A-Dee hungry, it's your own fault. more

In 1985 Jim & Phyllis purchased the old Pizza Hut building at 3036 SE 6th Street and moved the restaurant to that location. In 2001 the restaurant was purchased by Ken & Linda McDonald, who are the current owners. It's known for its good quality, home cooked food at reasonable, affordable prices, and its friendly down home atmosphere.
