Editorial review from Citysearch 8/13/2012

DO not take your animals here if you care about them. I took my puppy in because she had torn a pad on her paw. The vet said my dog did not need stitches and that the wound would heal within three days. It has been one week and my dogs wound has not improved. After a second consultation my dog will be getting stitches at a reputable animal facility tomorrow. Don't waste your time or your animals health by going here. more

Response to kathpq surgical quote 10/6/2008

In response to the posting by kathypq, it would appear that there has been a miscommunication in the cost of spaying a toy poodle. The cost for such a surgery on a young, healthy dog (including optional preoperative lab work and post-surgical pain medications) should be between $300 and $325. The quote of $700 - $900 is a far cry from our normal fees. Perhaps there were other procedures that were to be performed at the same time? We apologize if you were quoted incorrectly. more

Dr. Neering is the Best! 9/9/2008

Dr. Neering is everything you could want in a vet (or a doctor for that matter!). We moved from Chesapeake to Hampton 3 years ago and still continue to take our cats to her. She doesn't give up -- even when things look bleak. She's agressive in her treatment, but realistic in letting you know what the outcomes could be. She's also very well educated and willingly brings forth both cliical research and anecdotal evidence that can help you understand what you're up against and help you make a decision. Pros: Professional, Experienced, Compassionaate more

WOW!! why so high!!! 9/4/2008

I have been a cust. for awhile and called to have my ""toy"" poodle spayed, the person I spoke to on the phone said it would be between 700-900 dollars, I couldn't believe it, I didn't want them to make a new dog for me just have her spayed. I ask why so much when the SPCA will spayed dogs for 65.00, I don't understand why the big gap in price. I think I will be finding another vet. to take my dogs too, I have been paying someones house payment long enough, the doctors are nice, but... I'm wondering why the prices are so high, I hope they don't take advantage of the way people feel about their pets. Pros: get vets Cons: higher in price over all veterinarians in our area more

An Ethical Veterinarian 7/10/2006

We recently purchased a puppy from an irresponsible breeder and upon having it examined by Dr. Alfred Brooks, he determined it had a a skin problem that was the fault of the breeder who should not be selling dogs in this condition. He suggested that they should bear the cost of treatment and provided me with a diagnostic letter as documentation, which the breeder accepted and refunded us the approximate amount to cover the veterinary care. I really appreciate the fact that Dr. Brooks went out of his way and made me aware that the breeder should be held responsible and that he helped me recover the cost of treatment. I would highly recommend Chesapeake Animal Hospital to any pet owners. more
