Cheddar's

My wife and I had a horrible experience at the Bolingbrook Cheddar's, so future diners beware. I had been to several Cheddar's before, so I knew what to expect in their usual fare of burgers, chicken, and salads. However, what I wasn't expecting was bad service, an inattentive server, and my wife getting horribly, horribly ill after dinner. The food itself was good, but judging by my wife's reaction, there's really no reason to return. more

We went to Cheddar's for dinner tonight and had TERRIBLE service. We sat there at a table in the bar for almost 10 min. before a waitress acknowledged us. She took our drink orders, and eventually she came back to take our food order. I ordered steak and shrimp (even though I ordered medium well, the steak was very dried out, though that's not the waitress's fault) and I asked if I could have tarter sauce instead of cocktail sauce. When the food came, there was only cocktail sauce on the plate. Over 10 min. later the waitress came by and asked if it was OK - I again asked for tarter sauce. 15 min. later she came by and plunked a little dish - half full - of tarter sauce on the table. She never came back and asked if we needed anything, though she did slap a glass of cola on the table -- interestingly, when we first ordered I had a beer and my husband had an iced tea, so I don't know who the cola was supposed to be for. After I asked for a box for my leftovers, it took another 10 min. to get it, and probably 10 more min. to get the bill. In contrast to this service, the family of 6 next to us came in after us, got appetizers, got their dinner, paid and left before I even got my doggie box. This was the worst service we've experienced in YEARS!! more

When my husband and I went to Cheddar's for a evening out, I had high hopes. The atmosphere is casual, but the menu looked good. However, during our meal, our waiter sat at the next table and refilled our salt, pepper, etc. by just reaching over and grabbing them! I thought it was a little funny, but he actually took the dessert menu from us, wiped it off with spray and then put it back WHILE we were eating! I applaud whatever-his-name-was for cleanliness, but don't bus our table while we're still eating. Overall, he was attentive, but I was almost ready to ask him to pull up a chair and join us since he hovered over us the whole time. The food was okay, but later I had horrible horrible indigestion. Maybe you'll find something better on the menu, but I thought a salad would be pretty innocuous. more

Cheddar's is a great alternative to your everyday Chili's, TGIF, Appleby's, etc. It can get busy on the weekends so be prepared for a possible wait. My favorite dish on the menu is the steak and chicken strips combo. They also have a very good ribs and chicken combo. The serving sizes are huge and the side dishes are also good. Make sure to get a side Caesar's salad - very tasty. If you have enough room left, they have decent deserts as well. more
