San Francisco is loaded with outstanding restaurants. Recently, with our good friends Terye and Jacob Levy, we ate at Chaya Brasserie, located down in the Embarcadero.\r \r This...

Chaya was such a major disappointment. I made reservations a month in advance to bring out of town guests to a nice, San Francisco-esq restautrant and it stunk. The portions for...

I must admit, I've never had dinner at this restaurant on the Embarcadero across from the Ferry Building, but I've spent many a happy hour there. The happy hour menu features several great sushi options, a generous bowl of crisy, spicy french fries large enough for the whole table to share and lots of yummy, colorful and well-mixed cocktails. If you can score a seat at one of two window seat tables, you'll also have a nice view of the bay and the bridge. more

Chaya Brasserie- Japanese French 5/5/2006

Just went there with a big group yesterday. This place has cool decor. If they seat you right, you will enjoy a great ocean view. I had the Lichee Cranberry drink, it was okay. But, i heard the mango drink, the first one on the drink menu is good. Not a big fan of their free bread, it's plain and hard anyways. I went to Chaya once couple months ago. We ordered several appetizers, but i dont' remember what i ordered. They were good, but portion is a little small. Their sushi = good (just good, not impressive kind of good). I ordered Halibut for my entree...hmm, yummy, comes with asparagus and buck choy, mashed potato and some puree sauce.. perfect presentation and mixture. Btw, their current lunch menu is different from the one they post on the website. Their desserts are abolsutely one of the best. I would stay away from Neapolitan Ice Cream Sandwich. It's a little too plain. The two desserts you abolsutely have to try is the "Molten Chocolate Cake " and "Warm Chocolate croissant bread pudding". Creme Brulee is pretty good also. Chaya also has Happy Hours. They also play jazz during the weekends. You might need to call in to find out the schedule. more
