OK, I love the fact that I can go swimming in San Francisco and pay only $4.00. Charlie Sava Pool on 19th Avenue is just great!
Olympic size pool with lifeguard supervision, different times for lap swim, free swim, water aerobics. Newly renovated but don't fool yourself into thinking this is some lavish, cabana-type place. It's still a public pool.
Pros:
- $4.00 per visit (cheapy-cheapy in SF!)
- Olympic size with 6 lanes
- Free street parking and lots of it
- The water pressure in the showers is worth the 4 bucks alone!
Cons:
- Can get INSANELY crowded at night - sadly, the time I like to go for my laps
- Sometimes, while not freezing, it feels pretty darn cold - both the water and the outside air as they keep the windows open for ventilation
- They will NOT, and I am not exaggerating here, open the doors ONE MINUTE before it's time. If it's 7:59 and lap swim starts at 8:00, you better figure out what to do with that extra minute because you are not going inside.
- Must have exact cash - no exceptions.
All that being said, very minor cons and great pros so, basically, GO FOR A SWIM!
