Ex-Soho House Chef Brings Foodie Cred to Italian Wine Bar 8/26/2012

Food at the ultra private Soho House may be off limits to the public, but you can now sample its menu. The former Meatpacking members-only-clubhouse chef Fabio Bano brings his culinary skills across town, losing the pretentious-venue vibe, and showcasing his artisan cooking skills at Cellar 58. Named after its trendy 58 Second Avenue locale, the cozy, low-, tin-ceilinged, exposed brick “Italian tapas” wine bar is an East Village favorite. The railroad-style multiroom bistro seats 80-plus guests from its marble bar tables upfront, to its low-slung Moroccan-pillowed banquettes midway, to its mahogany bar, or out back in its private wine cellar dining room. \r \r Neighbors and worldly wine connoisseurs mingle nightly with hipster denizens and foodie flocking, thanks to nearby DBGB, Peels and Pulino’s—all backed by serious resto big wigs. But neighborhood deal seekers can nosh on Cellar 58’s daily happy hour specials from 4pm-7pm, including $8 gourmet tramezzinis (panini) like the crispy, greasy and delicious mushroom pate with truffle oil, paired with $5 sangria, beer or select wines. \r \r Parties can listen to smooth DJs while choosing from 100-plus bottles of globally imported wines, paired with items like homemade delicate veal meatballs, skirt steak, pappardelle or fresh oysters. Save room for artisanal sorbetto or treats like sour cherry gelato imported from Italy and panna cotta served with local berry puree. Cellar 58 is open nightly, serving brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. \r more

Conversation & Wine 11/23/2010

Cellar 58 is a great spot if you're looking for a bar to actually converse. The music is quiet enough in the background to let you talk and hear what is going on. Of course, it gets louder as the night goes on but that's a sign of everyone having a good time. more

Great Crowd 11/23/2010

I came here with a coworker. There were only a few people when we got here after work but it quickly turned into an intimate crowd where everyone seemed like they were friends. Maybe it was the wine but I had a great time here. Cellar 58 one of those local spots that make NYC great. more

Maria the Owner 9/9/2010

If you go to Cellar 58, make sure you talk to the owner Maria. She's a great, warm Italian mother who will take of you and your friends. I love her.. There's not a thing I wouldn't do for her, including taking time to write a review for her awesome food and even better wine. Cellar 58 Rocks! more

Good Wine Bar 9/9/2010

This is a great bar for conversation and casual drinking. The atmosphere is chill, the crowd was good looking when I came here and the service was spectacular. They make you feel special here. more

Inspiring Wine 8/26/2010

I'm an artist and this place is truly inspiring. By the second glass of wine, the conversation at our table was talking about ideas and concepts that none of us had really thought of. hahaha.. Not sure if it was the Argentinian wine or the crazy friends I was with, but this place is pretty hip. more

Girls Night Out 8/26/2010

I love this bar. It's great for girlfriend night out even though you probably won't find many boys here. It's a shame. Why are all the best wine spots filled with only women? Boys - you need to stop going to those sports bars and let us women treat you with some sophisticated touches.. more

Spanish Wines 8/26/2010

I heard about this place from coworkers.. It was everything they said, charming, romantic, spirited, spunky, perfect for conversation. They had a dj the night I came. I highly recommend their muscles and Chilean Sea Bass. more

Wine and Shorts 8/9/2010

Tapas and Spanish Wine 8/2/2010

Cellar 58 made me feel like i was home in Spain. The tapas were just as authentic as they were in my native country. The wine choices were also dizzying. I highly recommend this place. It's a popular spot after work. Pros: Appetizers, Tapas more

Great Outdoor Wine Patio 8/2/2010

The outdoor wine patio at Cellar 58 is built for summer. It's on 2nd Avenue, so it's always a great place to people watch. The wine is also affordable and they have lots of specials promoted on fb.. i highly recommend this place for a date or even just your friends. Pros: Outdoor Wine Patio more

Sangria in SUMMER 7/29/2010

Sangria in Summer. That is what this place has. I started drinking Sangria's at their outside patio after work with friends. I ended at 11pm. Where did the time go? I love this place. I've never met so many people and had such good homemade sangria. 5 STARS Pros: THE SANGRIA more

Wine for Sophisticated Drinkers 7/22/2010

The wine selection here is truly amazing. I had wine from 2 countries that I didn't even know produced wine. The East Village gets a bum rap sometimes for not having many sophisticated bars, but this wine bar will compete with Soho or any other lounge in the city. It's a safe bet if you're trying to impress. Pros: Wine Selection more

The Best Clams 7/22/2010

I tried the muscles and clams last night. To Die FOR! plus, the waitress knew which wines to mix with my seafood. i came here for the wine but it was the seafood that made me take the time to rate this. the restaurant is great. Pros: Seafood Variety Mixed with Wine more

Love this Wine Bar 7/22/2010

Love the wine selection. The owner and staff make you feel like this is your home. Owner is named Maria. Ask for her and she will treat you like her daughter. Love her!! LUV her! Pros: Outdoor Dining in the Village more

Wine Specials 7/7/2010

Just learned this wine bar apparently has underground specials that will rock your socks off. I learned about their specials on fb. Depending on the night of the week, you can get free wine, free appetizers or wine flights for only $15. It's worth researching on fb page if you're headed here. I overheard a girl ordering the underground special. Very much appreciated especially in this economy. Pros: Secret Wine Specials more

People Watching with Wine 7/7/2010

Most outdoor places charge a fortune for alcohol. Cellar 58 has a great patio that lets you sit outside and sip wine while enjoying the East Village scene. I love this place on Thursday evenings in the summer or any day after work. Pros: Outdoor Seating, Inexpensive Wine more

CELLAR 58 6/30/2010

I didn't know food could taste this good. I had the muscles, which came with chopped fresh tomatoes, ginger sauce, garlic and parsley. I'm a chef in Soho, so I always ask for the ingredients. Not only did the owner share the recipe with me but she also told me it was a family recipe. I live in the EV and walked by this place a million times. I only wish I would have discovered this place months ago. Great food, and exceptional service. Pros: Food is exceptional more

Singles Spot 6/30/2010

Why didn't someone tell me earlier that women love wine? I went to this bar with my buddy after we saw a group of 4 girls sitting outside, drinking wine on their outdoor patio. Not sure if it was the wine, neighborhood, or bar, but everyone here was friendly. I met several girls inside and walked away with a few numbers. Love this place. I now need to learn my wine etiquette. Cellar 58 Rocks Pros: Good looking crowd more
