My mother Jean Forutne was a resident for two years and just passed last week. My sister who lives in Portland was there daily to check on our mom and love her and help her through this scary disease. As horrible and frightening the disease of dementia is, I really don't think we could have found a better more loving, clean, safe, and interactive facility anywhere else....and we did research. I came to visit from TN about every 3-4 months and as often I as I could. Each time I was pleased to see her care level and again the LOVE from caretakers such as Carmelita, Brita, and Robert! I love you guys. And I know you loved my mom as you do all the residents you care for...it is obvious. As much as my heart is broken now, I at least know that we made the best decision for help with her care and with her death. They also made it as comforting as possible the day I dropped her off after driving her from her home in San Diego and trying to explain that this was her new home...and a very good one. That is a heart-wrenching experience and they all helped us through that as gracefully as could be done.
Pros: Felt like a real home, no nursing home smells, nicely furnished and lots of hugs
Cons: Because family is all spread around the country that puts strain on those at a distance, but this is inevitable no matter what choice of residence was chosen.
