Employment Review 2008-2010 1/12/2012

I worked at Catholic Health Initiatives in Exton PA for a year and a half. I was a recent college grad in 2009 and it was the first job I got. It?s a billing center that does not require a college education. %85 of this company's billing center makes $13.25 an hour. Employees there who had been working there 15+ years were making $15. Every year your there you get an additional 15 CENTS added to your paycheck. This goes for ALL departments. All departments are payer teams except for the electronic services team and the customer service team. Payer teams have the job of calling health insurance companies all day to try and force them to make payments towards patient bills. Most insurance companies are not cooperative. Its high stress and low pay. Customer service takes patient calls all day and that?s pretty much it. Some patients call screaming about hospital complaints and others call to follow up on bills. You are not allowed to take a break from being on the phone with the exception of a 30minute lunch. This was my team. I became friends with the women in my department and some had been working there for over 15 years. All were frustrated, over worked, and paid poorly. If you are lucky enough to be on the electronic services team it is the best department to be put on. These people start at $13.25. The highest starting pay. All day they post figures on the computer. The downside is they are very busy during month end, but these lucky individuals are the only people in the entire billing company besides supervisors and managers that do not have to be on the phone all day. Vacation time is accrued?. This means you can say bye bye to week long vacations. If you are sick or your child is sick you have to request off a day in advance. If you call the day of you?re giving a warning. If you get 3 warnings you are up for review which could lead to termination if it happens frequently. One of my co-workers went from working at McDonalds to a payer team at Catholic Health Initiatives. I a college grad with nowhere else to turn worked here for a year and half. If you can avoid it STAY AWAY from this place. There is no room for advancement, pay is extremely low, and it is high stress. I am now working for a company that treats their employees with respect! Working at Catholic Health Initiatives feels like being sentenced to life in prison without parole. more
