Food Good, but Employees Rude 3/15/2011

Me, my fiance', and a really good friend of ours went here last week and the food was good. When it was time for us to pay the bill, the waiter told us we had to leave a tip. Well duh, we def didn't need him telling us that, and especially not in a rude manner. Never have I had a waiter demand a tip. Otherwise, I would def recommand coming here for non-expensive meal. more

YUCK!!! 2/2/2011

I would never recommend this place to my worst enemy. I went here last night for the first time with a friend of mine and my husband. Absolutely despicable. The service is horrendous, I can't with good conscience comment on the food because we left after being there for about 5 minutes. FYI to anyone who will not heed my warning and go anyway, they will NOT take a Massachusetts state ID, regardless of your age. They wouldn't accept my 30 year old husbands, and he doesn't even drink!! They wouldn't even let him stay for food at 9:30pm on a Wednesday. And even this wouldn't have been so bad if they hadn't been so rude about it!! My husband was rudely told to go get a passport (who carries around a $100 passport to go out to eat?!) that his ID means nothing to them, and that Massachusetts ID's are a dime a dozen. (I'm assuming she meant they're easy to fake??) Well then, someone should let the state of Massachusetts know that their state ID's are crap, and not accepted at some establishments as a proper form of ID. So why would anyone even get one??? Geez, some people have a Mass ID because they're disabled and CAN'T DRIVE!!! It amazes me that establishments are even legally allowed to not except a perfectly valid state issued form of ID!!!! It seems like discrimination to me. Obviously we will not be going back. Worst of all?? $40 down the drain for a babysitter so we could go out for the first time in 2 months. We drove 30 minutes away in crappy weather, just to be sent away. Yuck. more

Not so cool service 2/23/2010

As I sat waiting for my takeout food in lobby area I witnessed the reception personel ask every non-white person for an ID for credit card purchases and they never asked any of they white people to show ID. They did this right in front of an African-American man (who went back out to his car to get his ID) and he called them out on it. They said that they were sorry and tried to give him extra fortune cookies, which he declined.\r \r Not Cool Cathay! Pros: food is ok Cons: front desk service is racist more

Simply Marvelous 11/25/2008

The food is delicious, absolutely delicious. Whenever my family visits from out of town, the first place they want to dine at is Cathay in Quincy. I'm sorry to hear about the service that other customers received, but we are always greeted with a smile and good manners. No one beats Cathay's spring rolls (sheer heaven). And not to mention the large portions at a reasonable price. In fact, I think I'll get the family together to dine there this weekend:) Pros: Excellent food Cons: Dim lighting more

TOTAL CRAPPIEST PLACE EVER 8/31/2008

Overpriced food, extremely rude employees including the manager who is 5 foot 1 and weighs like 306 pounds. I would avoid this place like the plague. Gross, disgusting, old smelly people in the lounge area. Cons: everything more

absolutely the best chinese ever 7/18/2008

I have been living in atlanta for over 15yrs now and the chinese food here is horrible. When I visit back home in boston this is one of my first and last trips to make. Nothing compares to it. I can't wait to bring my son in Aug 08 for his first taste (he's only 16 months). There are also many other restaurants in boston that we need here atlanta. more

The food was worth the wait 7/16/2008

I'm sorry to hear about the problem another reviewer had but my service was excellent. In April, my husband and I were visiting the Boston area from Atlanta where Asian resturants are terrible. We grew up in Boston so we knew exactly where to go. It was absolutely delicious, better than we rememberd. I even ordered some food to go. I wish they would open up a restuarant here in Atlanta because it's just not the same. I don't know what Boston does but whatever it is, they do it right! I'm even thinking about Fed-Xing an order overnight, that's how desperate we are. All in all, we enjoyed ourselves and the service was great. more

horrible service! Rude personnel 6/17/2008

They were very rude to us. We had called in an order. They didn't have it ready. The woman remembered the order and listing 3 things that were on it but said she put it in under another name. Then went to check on it and then started to argue with us that we never called the order in. She yelled at my mother and said that she lied and didn't call the order in. i watched my Mom call in the order. Then my Mom asked if they could make up the order if we gave it to them again. The woman said she could but we would have to wait for it and then called my mom a liar again saying that she didn't call. I told her she needed to apologize to my mother. She refused and said that we should apologize to her. Told her we were leaving and would never be back. I will let all of my family and friends know of this incident and how rude they are to their customers. Cons: rude personnel more

A Dream Come True! 6/3/2007

I've been to many restaurants in the area and none was as awesome as Cathay Pacific. I was able to enjoy myself rather delitefully while the service was great. The host welcomed my group so well. The food was astronomical!! Well-done ribs are a must for me- everything SHOULD be cooked well, and it was- I loved it. When it gets crowded, it's NOT BORING at all. Plus, I made friends with strangers who also loved Cathay Pacific. It's WORTH the wait because my group had a blast. Anyone who prefers to eat canned food as opposed to this should live in a cave. Maybe all they had growing up WAS canned food and so authentic food didn't appeeal to them LOL. Enough said, I love this place; it's definitely worth my while to take the drive back. Thanks for the awesome time!! Pros: Food, Service, Parking, Cute Host Cons: One or two customers who complain about the most insignificant things, like water. more

Best rangoons ever! 10/26/2005

This is THE place to go for crab rangoons. They are stuffed to the max, and strangely enough, when I stop in for a late night order at the end of a night of drinking, I am never hungover the next morning. The egg rolls and lo mein are also spectacular. The drinks are stiff, and the ""bar"" side of the restaurant is always good for a night of fun people watching. more

Cathay Rocks 11/13/2003

Great food, great drinks, and great music. The bartenders are very accomodating, the bands are always original and the people are a blast to hang out with. My personal favorite band is the Ronnie Lewis Expedition. more

Karaoke is great here 5/26/2003

I am a HUGE fan of the karaoke (and the DJ-Dave) I think the karaoke is very professionally done. The host is incredibly personable and the crowd is GREAT! BUT...Although I love the food, I am very unhappy with the service. The last time I was there, although we had at least 40.00 worth of drinks and 35.00 worth of food on our table...the policy of the restaurant is that NOONE on the karaoke side will be served glasses of water. I felt extremely disrespected as a patron. I mentioned that alot of people like to wash their food down with water and was told that I should eat in the restaurant if I want water with my food. Enough said for me as far as respect goes. Pros: good parking, great entertainment, Good Food Cons: service more

First Class expierence 8/6/2002

I usually go to the Cathay Pacific for the great entertainment. The Karaoke is the best I've ever been to. The host is wonderfully entertaining and extremly talented. The singers are world class. I decided to try their food and found it was top notch. I've become addicted to their Peking ravioli, and everything else is a delight to my pallet. The staff are all friendly and very helpful. Service is great. I'll be going back every oppurtunity I get. Parking is ample and lighted. For a snack or a meal, great food. For entertainment, the best around. As a group or on a date, this is the place to be for a fun filled evening! Pros: 1rst class entertainm, great food, easy in and out Cons: no one under 21 in lo more

Worth the trip! 7/31/2002

My wife and I traveled from Cape Cod on a Tuesday evening to enjoy the Karaoke entertainment in Cathay Pacific's lounge. It was worth the trip! We ordered a Pu Pu Platter which was out-of-this-world. Having read some very negative reviews on this website we were prepared for the worst, but were ultimately delighted with the atmosphere, food, service and value. My wife is confined to a wheelchair which was easily accommodated in the lounge. The Karaoke show was very professionally run, and the singers who performed contributed to a most enjoyable evening. more

Absolute Crap 7/19/2002

I agree, this food is NO good. all bark and no bite. big fancy restursnt, little over-cooked food. the people there are quick to get u in and out and thats all, with no good food to back it up, to start, the pu-pu platter was mediocre. over cooked chicken fingers and burnt ribs. then the entre was SO unflavorfull i almost sent it back... only to realize the replacement couldn't be much better. 3 words... Don't even bother :( Pros: decent parking Cons: bad food more
