Nice, Californian Garden 9/30/2006

I didn't know how to categorize this review; I couldn't find contact information for The Wrigley Memorial and Botanical Garden. Possibly because it's owned and operated by the Catalina Island Conservancy, so that's what I listed. At any rate, the Conservancy is dedicated to preserving California native plants. So with that said, there's a lot of cacti in this garden and not much else in terms of flowering plants. But it's a nice place to visit once you're on Catalina Island; otherwise, there's not much else on the island other than shopping and eating. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!) Besides the garden, there's also the Wrigley Memorial. Yup, *that* Wrigley. When he wasn't busy making gum, William Wrigley brought many improvements to Catalina Island, like public utilities, but also all the tile work you see on the island (or maybe that was his wife?) At any rate, he was a big influence on the history of the island, which you can read up on when you visit the monument. more
