Dr. Walker sat down with my 4 year old at her first dental appointment and talked to her. He explained everything he was going to do and she even opened up and started talking with him abut how well she was caring for her teeth. (Which is a feat because usually she is super shy around adults she does not know). When we took her back to the exam room, the dental hygenist was super nice and throughly explained and demonstrated (on a stuffed animal with human like teeth) everything she was going to do. They put sun glasses on her so the light was not in her eyes and she layed there and let them do their thing like a champ. However my 2 year old twins did not do as well. I think they are just too young at that age to understand what is going on as they tend to be scared at the pediatrician's office too. But we got through it with some tears. more

Upon recommendations from friends I went to Dr. Walker when I noticed my daughters teeth seemed to have a cavity. She was only 2 1/2 at the time and it concerned me. Dr. Walker looked at her in a very "adult" setting with a big chair, bright light, mask, gloves, and dental probe. It really scared my daughter who began to cry and clench her teeth. He then informed me that she had 5 teeth that were rotten (I had only noticed 1) and that she would need extensive work and not only that - because she was so young she would have to go under general anesthesia. He was a very nice man, and his staff was caring, but it was a bit much for my daughter to handle. But, perhaps all pediatric dentists have the problem of their profession being scary for young children. more
