False advertising at its best! Ripp off,to get you in! 8/30/2011

Bought a groupon for the carriage house salon in harvard sq.Camb,Ma. 3 choices of coupon 1 for haircut,1for facial,or 1 for mani/pedi.The mani/pedi was described as moisterizing clay mask to be put on hands and feet as part of it.I bought it,when I asked what about my moisterizing treatment ,was told oh,you have to pay more. You purchased the cheaper mani/pedi.The woman lied and told me there was 3 different kinds of mani/pedi offered in groupon. No,there was only one offered, the choice was haircut, facial or mani/pedi.Just one kind, and it was described in detail. more

Went with a coupon and they overcharged me 8/17/2011

Don't go - THEY RIP OFF customers. I went there for a Dr Haushka facial, which was good - I would give it 4 stars if they didn't change the price after the service. I had a La Nirvana coupon for $60 for 90 minutes, and the manager insisted that it was for 60 minutes so I should pay extra. I checked and showed him the price list but he wouldn't hear anything and still charged me extra after seeing evidence that he was wrong. I don't care whether it's their fault or if a Nirvana posted wrong prices, but this is outright stealing from customers. And he was extremely rude besides that. I will never go back and you shouldn't unless you don't mind being overcharged without warning. more

Great if you can find a discount 4/26/2011

The prices were a bit out of my range but I wanted to try it anyway. Luckily I was able to find a discount with a google search and found the site LaNirvana, where you can get ridiculous deals on spas and salons like Carriage House. I plan to go back next time I need a haircut. If you are thinking about going here, make sure you sign up for your discounted appointment first! more

Great Haircut - Nasty Wax 7/6/2009

I've been coming at the Carriage House Salon for a couple of years and always had good haircuts. However, I recently had the worst wax ever - - the theapist double-dipped in the wax, succeeded in burning and bruising my skin and despite my request for "just a clean-up", she waxed half my brows off and did an even worse job on my bikini wax. I will never have any skin treatment done at the Carriage House. Pros: Easy to make appointment Cons: Staff VERY uneven in their ability more

Stylish Salon in Heart of Cambridge Square 1/2/2009

The Carriage House Salon is an amazing salon tucked away up on the second floor of a beautiful, old brick and wood building in the heart of Cambridge Square. The atmosphere is wonderful and the staff is friendly and helpful. I have gotten multiple haircuts here over the years and they are always consistently my favorites. You will walk out of this salon feeling beautiful. more

carriage house salon 4/11/2008

I think alot of these bad reviews for the carriage house is set up . alot of people that left or fired and want revenge or clients are mad. ........ Pros: convenience good service Cons: some services are a little pricey more

Great atmosphere 4/27/2007

I got my eyebrows done here with Erin, and they look great! She really listened to what I wanted without my having to give too much instruction. Also they do the waxing in a relaxing spa room on a comfy bed (not just a sink chair in the back of the salon like some places). She spent a good 20 or so minutes making sure it was perfect. I will absolutely be back! Pros: friendly staff, attention to detail, great value, relaxing Cons: none more

Finally found a stylist who listens and offers great advice! 3/25/2007

I moved to Boston three years ago and have been bouncing around from salon to salon trying to find someone who actually listens to my ideas and can give me tips on new things to try or ways to make my idea work given my hair type (straight and fairly fine). A friend recommended me to Mindy and I can't say enough good things about her! She was really nice and friendly and had great ideas for my cut. It looks absolutely wonderful and I may even have the guts to go really short this summer with her behind the wheel. The salon is cute and is relaxing without any pretense. And I was so pleasantly surprised to have her use a bunch of different products on my hair and never suggest that I buy anything. When I got to the counter, I was able to get a small bottle of one of the products to try it out on my own, but again, no pressure. I highly recommend this place! Pros: Cute salon, really nice stylists and staff. Cons: None so far. more

Awesome at the last minute! 11/11/2006

I procrastinated until I couldn't stand my roots anymore, and they fit me in with - no lie - one hour's notice, and then the stylist spent two hours with me. I saw Maki. Her consultation was great (talked me out of layers that really would have been disastrous on my baby-fine, poker-straight hair), she was easy to talk to, and gave me the most natural-looking two-color highlights I've had in years (maybe ever)! The place has a cute, unpretentious spa atmosphere, and the whole staff was really personable. It's not super easy to find from the street if you've never been there, but it is just stone's throw from the Church St. exit of the Harvard Sq. red line stop, and is right next to the Starbucks if you need a landmark to find it. All in all, I had a great experience and, as a new resident of Cambridge, I can definitively say that I have a new hairdresser here. It was so nice, I even scheduled myself a Dr. Hauschka facial for next week (having seen the other posts rave about it). Call Maki! P.S. - The price for my two-color partial foil highlights on my super long hair was shockingly reasonable. Pros: Squeezed me in at the last minute Cons: Can be hard to find if you've never been there more

Best Curly Haircut Around 11/7/2006

I have very difficult thick curly hair, and Arthur at the Carriage House Salon is one of the few stylists I have been to who is able to manage it and actually make me feel good about myself after leaving the salon. Not only that, but he is a pleasure to talk to, and works very quickly. The salon itself is very cute, and they do not pressure you to buy their hair products, which is a definite plus. Pros: curly hair cutting, friendly staff, great atmosphere Cons: parking in Harvard Square can be difficult, but there is a lot right next door more

Greatest Service! 10/4/2006

Carriage House Salon is amazing! I called and got an appointed for the same day for my very first facial. The place is adorable and very comfortable. I had a fantastic time being pampered by Erin who is absolutely incredible! She asessed my skin and personalized my facial on the spot so that I would get the services best for me - not just what's the most expensive. I left feeling wonderful, calm, and refresed and had totally different skin. I've already booked my next appointed and recommend Carriage House highly. Pros: Great Staff, Fantastic Service more

Dr. Hauschka Facials: The Only Way 9/21/2006

For my first facial EVER, I wasn't sure where to go. But a dear friend recommended "any place that does Hauschkas." On top of that, I was dead-set on avoiding Newbury pretentiousness. Enter CHS! The vibe in the salon was perfect: warm, relaxing, with a mixed clientele. Every employee was friendly -- particularly Erin, the aesthetician, who wiped the nastiness out of my pores, sweetly. Basically, it's a $100 for a new you. Do it! Pros: location, low-attitude from employees, the best product line Cons: salon is a bit small (but cozy!) more

This is a great place 2/1/2006

I love this salon. After living in Boston for four years, I finally found a salon where I like to get my haircut and this is the place. They did a wonderful job. I love love love the staff, the atmosphere is relaxing and welcoming, it is easy to get to and their hours are great. I recommend going here to anyone for a haircut for curly or straight hair or any kind of spa treatment. I can't wait to go back for my next haircut. Pros: Relaxing, Friendly Staff Cons: None more

Dr. Hauschka facials rock 1/19/2006

If you want a facial that is out of this world, you've got to visit the Carriage House. They feature the Dr. Hauschka 'Classic' facial, which is a cross between a holistic skin treatment, a relaxing massage (they rub your feet AND lymph areas), and a retreat to a peaceful place far away from the real world. Seriously, this was the best facial I've ever had. I can't wait for my girlfriend's brithday to get here so I can give her this as a gift. Pros: Knowledgable, Communicative, Parking lot next door more

I can't recommend this place strongly enough! 1/15/2006

After I visited the Carriage House Salon and Spa last week, I could not believe that somebody posted anything negative about this wonderful place. From the moment I entered the salon, I felt completely relaxed. After getting my hair cut and styled I felt like a new woman. I have difficult curly hair, so I was thrilled with the results. I can't think of a better salon experience than this. When I left I looked and felt fabulous - what could be better than that? This place is truly a find. Pros: culy hair cutting, relaxed atmosphere more
