Dear Mancini529 5/8/2012

I had to laugh when I saw the ""review"" submitted by Mancini529. Apparently this girl doesn't have the slightest concept of courtesy or any business acumen for that matter. This is a small byob place; there is no corkage fee!, there is no plate splitting fee and there is no extra space to ""sit around"" after you pay your bill. The longer you camp at your table after you are done, the longer other diners must wait for their turn to sit down. In fact, you can readily see them standing at the door waiting and on most Saturday nights, believe it or not, other people have made reservations to meet their old friends for dinner too. Shocking as it may be to understand, restaurants make money on turning tables. If you must cling to your arrogant, self indulgent assertion that you simply don't care how long you sit at a table, stick to large chain establishments that can assume the loss of income on your table more readily or make your reservations later in the evening when it is less likely the table will need to be reseated. Lastly, there is absolutely no need to maintain such ridiculous standards for dining establishments. Do you make an appointment at a hair salon and expect to sit in that stylist's chair as long as you'd like? Ever try to pull such nonsense in a doctor's office or even at Jiffy Lube? No? Then try and muster the same respect for all the services at your disposal. more

Rude Staff 4/30/2012

Food was good. The staff were extremely rude. My husband and I met old friends at this restaurant. We ordered apps, entrees and desserts. After dinner we paid our 144.00 bill and sat for a bit finishing our drinks and chatting. Apparently they don't like you sitting around after you pay the bill. The waiter approached us and told us they need the table. That is rude. I don't care how long people sit at a table, you should never be old by staff they need the table. The staff kept giving us looks and talking to one another throwing their hands up with frustration because we were still there. We asked to speak with the manager regarding how we were being treated. She came out we explained to her what happened and all she said was sorry. I have never been treated in such a way. The owner of Cafe Andiamo should be embarrassed. more

Boycott this dump 1/1/2012

This place is absolutely awful. If I could have given it less then 1 star I would have. We were going there for New Year's Eve dinner with a reservation for 8pm for a party of 8. Well we got there at 730 and were forced to wait outside in the cold. It appeared our table was being prepared and sure enough the Chief of the Johnston Police shows up...he pushes us all out of the way and continually sticks his head in and is then seated at the table that was being prepped for us. The hostess who was either drunk and or doing drugs comes out with her cigarettes in her hand and wont even acknowledge us or even knew we still had a reservation and loudly blurts out ""I better let them know there is no way they are getting in here tonight"" Don't bother going here unless you are a ""regular"" I know because after we decided enough was enough the Valet says oh well that's the Chiefs seat whenever he wants to come here. Meanwhile my 4 year old was stuck outside with us in the cold. Real nice place. Please boycott this place, this was perhaps the worst experience I have ever been through. more

Cafe Andiamo is Fantastic 3/4/2011

It's my favorite restaurant. The food is absolutely wonderful. You have got to try their Caesar salad, it's out of this world. It's a small, intimate, friendly restaurant with great staff. The bill is always a pleasant surprise as it is a BYOB establishment. Highly recommended but make your reservation well in advance for a Saturday night. more

Outstanding Authentic Italian 11/22/2010

Being of Italian ancestry, and having grown up on home made pastas, ""gravies"" and traditional Italian fare, and also being a frequenter of the best RI has to offer, Pietro and Christen's Cafe Andiamo is outstanding and authentic. The food is magnificent. The atmosphere is cozy and warm. The owners treat everyone like family and the staff is superb. \r \r People must realize, however, that this is not a lounge. Being a small BYOB, patrons must be considerate of the time of both the owners and other patrons. Cafe Andiamo is certainly not a place to ""camp out"" inconsiderately for extended hours while others are waiting their turn for dinner. \r \r Finally, ""Chunkadee"", Cafe Andiamo is certainly no place for patrons who engage in disrespectful name-calling. Your personal attacks are quite ironic (yet nonetheless hilarious!) in the context of your ""Miss Manners"" assertions. Shame on you. more

#1 Italian Restaurant in RI 11/14/2010

We have been to Cafe Andiamo 40 times in the last 5 years and have had 40 ""Outstanding Dinners"". The owners, waiters (most of them are the same after 5 years which says something about the restaurant), and food are tremendous.\r \r All dishes are great-our favorites are the veal, scrod, steak, and antipasto. We highly reccomend this restaurant to all. You need to call early in the week if you want a Fri or Sat reservation. And by the way, the dessert menu is outstanding as well. it's BYOB so a bill for 2 people is normally around $60-$70... more

Our Very Favorite Restaurant! 11/13/2010

\r My husband and I find Café Andiamo to be our very favorite restaurant! We have been coming here since it was a lunch take-out place. The place might be small but it cozy and familiar. The staff makes you feel like family. They take care of your every need. Every meal is made to perfection. My husband’s favorite is the house veal, and will always explore the chef’s fresh fish dishes. My favorite is the swordfish, and any of the chef’s shrimp specials. \r I would recommend you give Café Andiamo a try. You are always guaranteed to have a wonderful night out! Jackie\r \r more

THE BEST VEAL! 11/11/2010

The veal here is the most tender I have had.. Better than any place on the HILL!\r I particularly love the BYOB policy!\r Staff and owners are outstanding, and the atmosphere is cozy and warm! This is the BEST SECRET in RI! more

The Woman that owns Andiamo is a disgrace w/ zero class. 11/5/2010

While the waiter was great and personable and food was above average, I will not return. Apparently 2 hours and 15 minutes is to long for a party of 8 to dine. The moment we hit two hours the Manager/Owner (Whomever the dark haired amazon is) who had enough room to go by my mother insisted on pushing her chair in more while bumping her breasts intentionally into my mother's head. Then loudly apologizing to the next group waiting to sit down. It was embarrassing and upsetting to myself and others. The Lamb special was good but the lamb was hidden and a very small portion. The Calamari was OK but I can get better at the Mew's Tavern. The Red Snapper was undercooked and light in taste, the pasta was cooked perfectly and was delicious. The other members of the party all shared the same sentiment on the food but if you don't have a staff w/ great customer service you will not get repeat patrons. This woman could use several classes with Miss Manners and perhaps you'd have more reviews complimenting the food and the service. I will not return... more

Lousy 10/26/2010

Friends from Johnston bragged about Cafe Andiamo. My recent visit was very disappointing. The service was terrible, had to ask for menus and utensils. I ordered shrimp scampi w/broccoli rabe over penne pasta. The shrimp were good, but they never chopped up the rabe. I had log strips of rabe with thick stems draped over my pasta. I had to requesteda steak knife to cut the rabe!! The sauce tasted like chicken broth. I make better food at home! I would not go back. more

The best kept secret is out of the bag 3/9/2010

Cafe Andiamo is in my top three restaraunts in Rhode Island. The service is spectacular, Ricky,Rob, and Carson will wait on you hand and foot. The food is absolutely delicious. The portions are enormous and the prices are right. Where. Do you know where the owners come out and greet you and wait on you if need be. Get there asap. more

My favorite restaurant 10/23/2009

My favorite restaurant in RI, and for those of us who live in the biggest little state, we know that is indeed saying something. I've been there with parties of anywhere from 2 to 12 people and in any situation, we were treated like part of the family there. Thank you very much to the owners because as a former waiter, I know how hard that is to accomplish. Viva Andiamo!! Pros: Huge helpings Cons: Reservations are a must more

Simply Outstanding! 10/20/2009

My husband and I first started going to Cafe' Andiamo when it was open for lunch and had a huge deli case in the restaurant. They simply had the best sandwiches around! We would frequently make the drive from Richmond, RI to have lunch and peruse the deli case for take out items for dinner. What a treat! Over the years we have seen Cafe' Andiamo transform itself into an amazing culinary experience unsurpassed by none. We have celebrated many special occasions at Andiamo- from romantic anniversary dinners to Christmas celebrations with 20 of our good friends. Everything has always been amazing and I am impressed every time! The food is out of this world, the wait staff friendly and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere aesthetically pleasing to the eye. We can't wait to celebrate the holidays with our family and friends at Andiamo again this year! Pros: A fabulous dining experience more

An open apology 10/20/2009

As the owner of Cafe Andiamo, I am profoundly embarrassed and saddened by the experience Pacinno62 had at my restaurant. I fully acknowledge that there is absolutely no way to make up for the fact that his grandmother's 85th birthday dinner was ruined that evening. It was a terrible, inexcusable error. Once again, I humbly apologize to Paccino62. I do object, however, to the odd reference made to our regulars. I simply cannot apologize for continuing to accommodate our most loyal customers; most of whom have become dear friends and have been visiting with us since the days we served lunch and only had three tables. To all of our many faithful supporters, thank you! Without you, we could not continue. more

Best Dining Experience 10/20/2009

This was the best dining experience we have had in a long time. The food was fresh and delicious and the people friendly and eager to please! A MUST GO! Pros: BYOB, friendly more

Never again..... 8/17/2009

“The best kept secret” in Rhode Island is what I used to call it. About three or four years ago Café Andiamo’s really was “the best kept secret” in Rhode Island. I remember my family and I (a group of 7), going there twice a month. Those were the good old days. As time went on, it became more and more apparent that Andiamo’s was no longer a secret. It got to the point where reservations had to be made three to four weeks out. This made it difficult for busier people who usually book 10-12 days out, but it was still worth it. As it became busier, we noticed the quality slipping. About 6 months ago, we went to Andiamo’s and the food was awful and the service was worse. Could it be? The best spot in Rhode Island couldn’t keep up with this huge influx of business? We decided to take a break. Two visits like that in a row would have made the most loyal customer run in the opposite direction. That brings us to 4 weeks ago. It was at that point that we decided to bring my grandmother there for her 85th birthday. Andiamo’s was always her favorite and she never understood why we stopped going. So, we got the reservations for this past Saturday. Right on her birthday. Even with the 3-4 week notice, we still had to settle on a 7:30pm time slot (not easy for an 85 year old). Nevertheless, we were excited for our return. On Saturday we packed the coolers (BYOB) and headed off. When we got there, we were greeted by a younger gentleman. He asked my name and when I gave it, he said that we didn’t have reservations. I told him it was impossible and explained. He said there was nothing he could do. I asked him for the manager. He went in the back and when he returned he said that his manager told him that after I made the reservations, my “secretary” called to change the day to Friday. Lmao…..I don’t have a secretary. I asked top speak to the manager. She finally came out and stuck to the secretary story. I told her that I don’t have one and I asked her why she wouldn’t call the person who made the actual reservations to see if they really wanted to switch. She had no answer. I asked for the owner and guess what……she was the owner. She then went to the back and returned 5 minutes later with a desk calendar, which she had obviously altered in the back office. On it, our name was erased on Saturday (with nobody filling the time slot) and we were penciled in on Friday (in the 5:00pm time slot). At this point my grandmother was confused and hungry and I was angry and shocked. She did nothing. She did offer to comp my wife and I a dinner some time. I told her that I didn’t need her money. I needed to celebrate a birthday. I wanted nothing but a place to sit. It never came and we had to leave. By the time we got to another restaurant and were served, my 85 year old grandmother was eating her main course at 9:30pm. I am a prominent figure in the public community who used to talk about Andiamo’s in seminars as the model of a great customer experience. Those days are long gone folks. It is very obvious that Café Andiamo’s has their “regulars” and that they don’t know how to handle the volume of business that an “upscale” restaurant is able to. “The best kept secret” is no longer a secret….and it’s no longer a restaurant worth your time or money. Pros: BYOB...if it's worth the headache Cons: Read on... more
