I am puzzled by the bad reviews. While some servers may be indifferent at best, we have been eating at Cafe Rouge for years and have never had a bad experience. The bartenders in particular are quite nice and attentive whetheer you are just having drinks or having a full dinner. The food on the whole kicks ass. Especially all the meat. more

One of my favorites 2/21/2003

I've been shopping at Cafe Rouge's butcher shop for a couple of years. It's the only place I know in the area where you can buy freshly made duck confit, foie gras, etc., many of which they make themselves. I've been so impressed with the butcher shop that I've wanted to try their cooking, but somehow never managed to. I finally got a chance to have lunch there, and had an excellent fish, perfectly prepared, with well seasoned vegetables. I was very content (and that's not easy to do). I also found the service to be attentive and friendly. I don't understand the experience of other users here, but perhaps there's one bad waiter who people keep running into. This was for lunch, so perhaps they're more relaxed? I don't know, but do try Cafe Rouge, at least for lunch. Or just check out their butcher shop. more

Good food, unfriendly staff. 1/12/2003

My husband and I are puzzled by the responses by the six reviewers. We have dined frequently at CR for several years (mainly for lunch) and although we agree that the service has gone downhill the food remains consistently good. The salads and soups are always exceptional and the chicken is a good bet. In fact, we cannot remember every being served a bad dish. We dine out frequently at many highly rated restaurants (one of our other favorites is Fringale) so we have a well developed palate. As noted by the others, the servers, especially the hostess, tend to be rude and as in years past (with the old staff) we are no longer recognized as regulars. But the food will keep us coming...for now. more

Not only the food is bad but the service is exceptionally rude too. The host guy is looking at you with a ""why did you come here?"" attitude. Bad bad place. Cons: bad service more

Cafe Rude and Boring 10/21/2002

This place is lack of service. By the time you enter the restaurant, an ice cold hostess greets you and throw you into your seat. Then waiter slaps you with his arrogance. Food, that is another story. When you look at the menu, you think something you would never forget is coming to the table. But of course not. Anyway, what i mean is don't even try!! more
