Cafe Cacao

Here is what I love about Cafe Cacao: Pressed chocolate sandwiches. I will eat these anytime, anywhere. Chocolate pot de creme. This is like... I... oh my god. That is all. Just oh, my god. Here is what I hate about them: The service! Now I know they have revamped recently and maybe it's different, but every time I went to the old place it was the most ridiculously slow service I have ever had. One time they lost my leftovers somewhere in the process of boxing them up for me. One time I went in just for a pot de creme and it took three times as long for them to bring me my bill as it did for me to eat the darn thing. My friends refuse to go there for brunch anymore because of the service; me, I'll put up with a lot more than that for their pressed chocolate sandwiches and their chocolate pot de creme. more

My single experience at Cafe Cacao in Berkeley exceeded all possible expectations. I went with a large group (about 15) after touring the attached Scharffen-Berger chocolate factory. No only did te Cafe staff not only accomodate our party, they provided us with our own beautiful dining room, complete with a coffee/juice bar and several servers dedicated solely to meeting our needs. The food was good, but to be honest, not memorable in comparison with the superior service. I can't wait to go back for dessert! more

I think that this place has a lot of drinks and it great! It’s one of favorite cafes in fact but I think that the service is only ok. I must say that it’s not the best I’ve seen but it’s definitely not the worst. I don’t really hate it but it brings me down. It good if you want to grab something and run though. Make sure you visit it just so you get a … taste of what its like! more

If you are visiting Sharfen-Berger for any reason (tour, buying chocolate, etc.), a trip to Cafe Cacao should not be missed. The hot or iced chocolate is amazing. I also recommend the chocolate and banana pancakes-- they were on the kid's menu, but can be doubled for an adult portion. All the sandwhiches and salads were excellent, and the chocolate desserts cannot be beat! more
