Weekend of fun! 11/4/2011

I went to CP last weekend with a few friends, we had a really great time. It was Halloween weekend so they had a big Halloween event. The crowd was good, drinks were great and the music was music you can dance to. We all had a fun night and danced until they closed. I will come back another weekend for cocktails and dancing. Best Monday Football Night to watch Football 10/11/2011

This is the 2nd time Monday Football Night, we went to cp restaurant, we sat at the bar, watching the so big led screen, eating the delicious tataki roll (my favorite sushi roll),and some happy hour food. Highly recommended! more

Don't waste your time 7/26/2011

Went there for happy hour for the first time not knowing what to expect. Parking was limited, therefore had to maneuver to an adjacent parking lot. First impression was that the atmosphere was dead, i.e., sterile with cracked concrete floors and glass everywhere. Sitting on the patio felt like being right on the street with views of rush hour traffic right in your face. The dim sum was marginal at best and the owner kept making a jackass out of himself by not letting the staff do their job. Not worth the effort. more

The New Scene in Newport 2/24/2011

We hadn?t been to CP since the remodel so we jumped in the car and drove the hill. Parking was free as always and the valet was very friendly. The restaurant was pretty crowded but we were promptly greeted at the door. We decided to sit at the bar; two place settings were immediately set up for us. more

Love the NEW LOOK!!! 1/15/2011

I have been going to China Palace since I was a little kid with my parents. I love the Chinese food, and this was actually the first place that I ever tried sushi. Now, I eat sushi all the time and love the Tataki Salad. Before the remodel, I didn't really like the look as it felt old and worn down with teal colors. But I would always come because I love the food. Now it looks awesome!!! Looks very modern and extremely spacious and they have the exact same dishes with a few new ones ( I haven't tried them yet, I never get tired of the Tataki Salad). It's extremely modern now (thank god there is no more teal in the restaurant). I'm not sure what diznykd is talking about because the new look is anything but a "crappy beer bar" (???). It's so new and feels so clean. To each his own I guess? To me, the sushi here is by far the best around the area. Definitely try the Tataki Salad, or Kamikaze Roll. These 2 are definitely my favorites and in close second is the sunset roll. And for chinese, we always get an order of mu shu (mushu 1 word or 2 words?) chicken. I live like 5 minutes away, and I always tell myself I'm going to get something else, but I just love these dishes too much I guess... more

What a disappointment!! 1/2/2011

My husband and I used to eat there regularly when it was the China Palace. Apparently, it's under the same ownership with a new name, but it was a huge disappointment. I ordered halibut sushi which was tough and veiny with a lot of fat in it, which tells me it was not the best cut of fish, as halibut is very lean and you could literally gum it if you had no teeth. They have redecorated the inside of the restaurant which made me feel as though I was in a crappy beer bar throwing peanut shells on the floor. There used to be very intimate booth seating with large overhanging plants everywhere. They've replaced the plush booth seating with small coffee shop booths and pulled all the carpet up off the floor. I felt like I was sitting in some hole in the wall beer bar or a warehouse. The cement floor was all cracked underneath, which also made for a very loud restaurant as there was no carpet to buffer the noise level. My shrimp with garlic and shallots was ok, however, I've never been charged extra for just plain white rice. We ordered a turtle ice cream thing for dessert, which was brought on a plate just out of the heated dishwasher and it immediately started to melt all over the plate. The coup de grace, however, was when paying the bill. When the waitress brought our change, she brought us only the paper money, but did not bring the coin change that was due. When I mentioned she had shorted us on our change, her comment was "Oh, just take that out of the tip." Granted, it was only 62 cents, but that gives me a clear indication I am probably not the only person they do that to. Overall, the service was inattentive, I had to keep asking for iced tea refills, and it's just not worth my time or money to go back. They've definitely lost my business. more

Fresh Sushi & Great Live Entertainment 12/10/2010

I went to Coast Point with my husband last weekend and had a great dining experience. This was our first time here and it won't be our last. The service was great and the waitress recommended some great sushi dishes. During dinner there was a live band that was playing that night. My husband & I had a great dining experience and will be back for sure. more

Such good food! 5/22/2008

The China Palace is a favorite of mine. I try out many different Chinese restaurants with my circle of friends and this one fits the bill nicely. Excellent menu selection - and the food is wonderful. more
