where can you find where both ambiance and food is great. the staff is friendly. the food is nicely priced, not expensive at all.

Worst

Dill on hanger steak? That didn't work for me. The food was incredibly salty. Pros: Many dishes are flops. Cons: Great drinks. Stunning interior.

Must eat here! 5/10/2010

The restaurant is beautiful. The staff was great and the food was fantastic! We had the calamari as an appetizer, which had a sauce on top that was to die for. For our main course, I had the aghi tuna (pan seared) oh man, I practically licked the plate! My husband had their famous burger and said it was the best he's ever had! The staff helped us pick great wine, overall the bill was on the high side but well worth it! more

Butterfly is great for lunch 9/17/2009

Been here both for lunch and dinner. Great food and ambience. Lunch atmosphere is much more relaxed and they were nice to our young child. I saw other families as well so that was comforting. Noodles are to die for. Glazed miso salmon was yummy too. A bit pricey but wonderful views IF you have a booth facing the water and it there are only a few of those. more

Great Restaurant on the SF Waterfront 6/28/2009

We stumbled on this restaurant after taking the Alcatraz Tour. We felt very lucky to end up here instead of in some tourist trap. The food, drinks, service, and decor are all very good. We ordered from the brunch menu, which is excellent. Pros: Great drinks and food Cons: None more

an accidentally found gem 3/31/2009

I am so glad that I found Butterfly. I was looking for a place to eat breakfast before I was scheduled to tour Alcatraz, and one of the closest places to the departure was Butterfly. I glanced at their menu on the door, and anxiously awaited for them to open their doors so I could try their brunch. It didn't disappoint. The service was excellent, attentive, and full of thoughtful suggestions. I had a peanut butter and Nutella monte cristo with a berry jelly. I think they could have been a little more generous with the peanut butter and Nutella, because the bread was pretty thick. But it was so good, I really had no complaints. We had some fabulously seasoned edamame (with some unique salts), as an appetizer that was included. I know it sounds a little weird with my sugary breakfast, but it worked out well, and the flavors didn't clash too badly. It might have been a better appetizer choice for my friends who had seafood and egg dishes. But the view of the pier was nice, and I look for more

You know, I really dont like to write bad reviews and Im not very picky or much a complainer when I go out to eat but...Had dinner there with my bf and the service was AWFUL. Took forever for everything...getting seated (tables were not ready and we had a reservation and the place was not full) taking our order, the champagne had to be chilled, food took days to come. Amazing view, Amazing atmosphere 11/4/2008

The food here is great, not too busy but a great view of the bay. They have excellent service and a full bar. Great drinks and after all is said and done they have dancing after on some nights. Love this place. more

I?ve been here before and each time, I have had a very pleasant dining experience. On top of that, did you know this restaurant is teaming up with StreetSmart4kids? It?s actually really cool what they?re doing. I just heard about how SS4K is a nonprofit organization that helps underprivileged teens stay healthy. They are running their ?Dine Out and Donate? campaign here (as well as approx. 70 other restaurants in SF) during October and early November. After having a fabulous dining experience, just fill out the donation form when paying the check (minimum donation $3). This is perfect for people like me, who love to eat out all the time and also like to give back to the community. Check it out for yourself on the StreetSmart4Kids website! more

spectacular view and calamari 11/30/2007

Just stop in for an drink and appetizer to enjoy the view of the bay. The food is very expensive but it is fantastic. It's right on pier 33 so the location can't be beat if you are a tourist. more
