I just purchased a leather recliner at United House Wrecking yesterday and I could not have been happier with the service I received from both Karen and the owner Mario. Their ma...

The worst experience shopping 4/23/2013

I purchased an entire living room furniture from them. There was problems with every piece, the furniture was poorly made. I ended up returning everything after spending months working with one of their useless decorators. She tried hard to convince me to keep the furniture, I got in touch with the owner and after their upholsterer examined everything they took it back. Avoid ordering any custom furniture from there. In the past I had purchased antiques from them and was very happy, I won't ever go back. more

Absolutely Fabulous! 12/21/2010

Had a fantastic day at United House Wrecking. I was shopping for a fireplace mantel and bought a beautiful mahogany one. The staff was so helpful and nice. I have been shopping there for years and really enjoy the eclectic collections they have. Their stock of chandeliers has to be one of the largest I have ever seen! Every trip that I take there it seems like a whole new store with their ever-changing selection of antiques, outdoor pieces and new upholstered furniture. It's always and adventure! more

Treasures! 9/8/2005

This place is amazing and huge. They have old fireplace mantles, huge statues, everything from old houses. There are gazebos galore. You can spend days walking around the property, which is very large and inside and out. The great thing about this store is that you aren't buying cookie cutter items. You can't find this stuff anywhere else. It's not cheap, but for the experience, you can't miss it. more

They wrecked UH Wrecking 8/19/2005

United House Wrecking used to be a treasure trove of obscure architectual elements and furniture scrounged (or more likely purchased) from buidling about to be demolished. I fondly remember bright red London phone booths, oversized amusement park figures, marble fountains from Gatsby-era mansions, etc. But as the store became more popular, they began to mix in more and more "new" antiques. There were still a few interesting oddities for those willing to dig through the dusty shelves (solid wood doors with leaded glass insets) were a particular favorite. Since the renovation of the store a year or so back, UHW has become an overpriced design center. I wonder if they even bother looking for demolished buildings anymore. Skip it and head to the Shippan Point antique shops if you're looking for authenticity. more

Treasure Trove No More 8/18/2005

United House Wrecking used to be a treasure trove of odd and unusual artifacts and architectural fixtures. It was a place to encounter old magazines, garden statues, and any number of one-of-a-kind items. Since then they have undergone a physical transformation: enlarging their business and eliminating the funky in exchange for the upscale. They now have interior designers on premises and advertise a line of brand new leather furniture. For me some of the sense of serendipity in exploring is gone and that is a major loss for this area. more
