The Norfolk International Airport is a nice little airport. With it being so small, the fares are usually higher if you fly into or depart from here. This makes it a hassle if you want to save a hundred dollars or two since yo have to drive to a larger airport. It is, however, quaint enough that you don't get lost amidst fellow travelers.
The employees do an awesome job with checking you thoroughly for items not permitted in restricted areas. I know this for a fact because even before the tighter restrictions due to September 11 incident, I saw a teenager who was surrounded by security. I later found out that this was because he was carrying a BB gun which they thought was a handgun. Regardless, it was not permitted and the security did a great job in handling the situation.
