Not Worth It 3/12/2009

We recently went to the Meijer Gardens for the Butterfly Exibit. There werent many butterflys and the people that worked there(inside the exhibit)reminded me of the Gestapo. We were constantly being watched by them and harrased.Like:"dont eat in here""Dont stand to close to the plants"and more. And when we left two men were seated there and said "turn around so we can see if any butterflys have landed on your backs".Well my thought was why didnt they get off their lazy behinds and do it themselves.I also think the cost $12.00 per adult is alot of money for what you get.Or should i say "dont get".Save your money!Take your family to someplace that has a better atmosphere and you get what you pay for. Sincerely and Honestly more

Nice Kids Parks: You are SOO fortunate in GR 8/30/2006

This is the most amazing place I have taken my daughters (2 yold and 9 mo.). I visited here last week and was shocked at the fun outdoor children's garden. First of all, it is a mix between Chuck E Cheeses and Six Flags BUT it is clean, only for kids, and educational! There are so many neat water toys, treehouses, huge sandboxes and a place to have a tea party. The cafe was delcious inside and had great kids meals. I will be back next time I am in GR. One of the reasons that I think it is so great is that it isn't used so much that it is worn out. It is a little costly to go here on a regular basis unless you have a family membership. Otherwise, it would be run-down. more

Plan to Spend the Entire Day Amid This Oasis of Flowers! 5/12/2006

This is the largest tropical conservatory in Michigan which is sprawed out on 118 acres so my advice is wake up early and plan to spend your entire day here. If you love Gardens this is the Ultimate Garden Experience located in Grand Rapids, MI. In springtime they have the butterfly exhibit and now they have since added the childrens gardens. A wonderful day to spend with the entire family!!!! more

sculpture walks, galleries, butterflies... 4/16/2006

I was introduced to Meijer Gardens when a friend and I went to see the Chiluly Exhibit in the Gallery there...and we made a day of it. We toured the other exhibit halls, the conservatories with tropical plants and butterflies, and, then, walked the paths on the grounds viewing all the great sculptures including the LARGE DaVinci Horse. We ended our day with purchasing some plants and items at the gift shops. This is a wonderful place for art and plants. more

Worth a visit 12/22/2005

I visited this gardens last year when they were having the Polar Express exhibit. My daughter loved it and it was really well done. The gift shop is incredible and the photo ops are everywhere. Bring your camera! Although it is a little expensive to enter into this facility, it is worth it to buy a year long membership. It really ends up paying for itself. more

Just lovely 12/19/2005

We had our wedding reception at the Gardens so perhaps I am biased, but the Meijer Gardens is a wonderful asset to the Grand Rapids community. We had great service during our wedding planning, and they were very attentive to our needs, helped explain their rules and regulations very well, etc. Even though they had some pretty strict rules in terms of decorations, they explained the reasoning so we didn't just think that they were being unreasonable. We appreciated that, and the facility is beautiful enough that it hardly needs decorations anyway! As a "thank-you" for having our event there, they gave us a complimentary one-year membership, which we thought was a nice touch. We have really enjoyed things like the Christmas tree displays and member parties, and customer service has always been excellent. more

Impeccable beauty! 12/18/2005

For anyone who's not been there...it's not just a garden. This sits on acres among acres of gardens, paths, a boardwalk through the woods, sculptures (GIANT SCULPTURES), indoor greenhouses, banquet facilities, child's park,...and the list goes on. To do the sculpture park alone (if you do the walking tour by yourself with the headset) will take you 2 hours. The gardens, both indoor and out are just absolutely beautiful. The sculptures are both small and some as large as several stories high. The childs park is all about the 5 senses. The best part in my opinion though is indoor. There is a GIANT jungle like area that you walk into that during several months of the year hosts home to butterflys. And you are walking right among them! There are birds, waterfalls, orchids, exotic plants, banana trees, etc...It's impossible to describe how beautiful it is. Too much to say...you must visit! more

A GREAT Family Place to go! 11/22/2005

We enjoyed the Frederick Meijer Gardens last summer during thier Butterfly exhebit. My children loved it. The butterflies were amazing and the garden was just beautiful. We were able to walk through the garden checking out the beautiful butterflies that were flying all around us. My children were able to touch and learn about caterpillars and butterflies and we had a wonderful time. The staff at the Garden is wonderful and answered any questions that we had very patiently. It was a wonderful experience for our family and I would recommend it to anyone! more

Great for all ages! 11/15/2005

We LOVE this place! There are things to do all year round! For kids in the summer we play with the water and boats and also run around the tree house. There are so many sculptures and botanical gardens for adults to look at too, not to mention the incredible butterfly exhibit! In the winter the Christmas trees are awesome! The sheer abundance of them is amazing! And the kids are occupied with the trains. The family pass is certainly worth it too. You basically get your money out of it going just a few times. I highly recommend visiting the gardens at different times throughout the year! more

Our family loves Frederik Meijer Gardens! My children love it for the Lena Meijer Children's Garden which has so many fascinating and educational activities to do. My husband and I love it for the sculptures, exhibits, and summer concerts! We enjoy it so much that we have purchased a membership and will continue to renew it every year! more

Wonderful Place To VIsit - Don't Miss It 10/2/2005

The Frederik Meijer Gardens is a wonderful place for the whole family to enjoy God's creation and see the different plants, trees & flowers He has created! They have many events throughout the year that highlight areas of their facility. Two highlights come to mind immediately: 1 - the butterfly exhibit in the spring - it's an amazing assortment of butterflies for all to see and experience 2 - the Christmas tree display - you can see different Christmas trees from different countries around the world Our children LOVE the children's gardens they now have - and it's kid's size! You've GOTTA visit the Gardens! more

No regrets ! 8/18/2005

If you ever plan on visiting Grand Rapids, MI please, whatever you do, make yourself a promise. Promise yourself that you will visit Frederik Meijer Gardens. This place is absolutely beautiful. And if you could rearrange your schedule to come visit when the butterflies are blooming - you will never regret it. There's a huge room where you can see butterflies blooming from their cocoons & full beautiful, just gorgeous butterflies flying around. It is such a beautiful sight. It really makes you feel as if you are in a rainforest in a far off country. I believe it costs $12 per person. It's so worth it. I promise. more

Meijer Gardens! 8/17/2005

Frederick Meijer Garden is a wonderful place to go in the summer and in the winter. They have a newly opened children's garden that has activities and paths for them to walk on. There is a maze out of shrubs and a great exhibit that shows kids the great lakes. Also every spring they have a butterfly exhibit in their green house. In the winter they have decorated trees. They have a gift shop and a place you go to have lunch. This is a great place to go if you are visiting or live here. more

A wonderful place for adults and children alike! 8/14/2005

Meijer Gardens is a beautiful place to walk through and visit. It has a wonderful area for children with water play, story time, climbing structures, etc. It also has a very nice cafeteria (with good food-better than most cafeteria food) and a beautiful gift shop that has so much to offer. It is easy to locate and parking is plentiful. I highly recommend this day trip if you are in the area! more

A Beautiful Place! 8/13/2005

My favorite exhibit at the Frederick Meijer Gardens is "Butterflies are Blooming" which happens each spring. Also impressive is the sculpture park tour - you can take a trolly around the park with a tour guide who will tell you about the significance of each piece. The cafe has fantastic gourmet food, which is served quickly. A great place to spend an afternoon! more
